    Head of Accounts - Banking

    JOB SUMMARY 

    We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Head of Accounts to lead and manage the accounting function within our banking operations. The successful candidate will be tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the financial reporting system is accurate, compliant with banking rules and regulations, and the financial operations are properly managed. This role requires strong leadership, technical accounting expertise, and a deep understanding of the banking environment.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Control the accounting process of the bank in order to maintain correct, comprehensive, and up-to-date financial statements within the adopted accounting standards.
    • Prepare, review, and approve the financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and ensure the financial statements are fully compliant with the IFRS and other applicable reporting requirements.
    • Ensure strict compliance with regulations by the Central Bank, regulations in respect of financial reporting, taxation regulations, and all other relevant banking regulations.
    • Be involved in managing the general ledger, which entails examining accounting entries, provisions, accruals, and adjustments.
    • Monitor day-to-day accounting affairs, such as transaction processing, suspense account handling, and closing differences in account reconciliations.
    • Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning functions, and conduct in-depth variance analysis.
    • Make available comprehensive financial reporting and analysis to the senior management to facilitate their planning and decision-making process.
    • Design and enforce effective internal control systems, accounting policies, and procedures to strengthen financial management processes.
    • Coordinate internal, external, and regulatory audits. Ensure that these audits are done in time and that their results are addressed.
    • Monitor all tax planning, tax computations, and compliance processes, including corporate taxes, VAT, withhold taxes, among other statutory requirements.
    • Keep track of financial risk and help in enterprise risk management activities by ensuring correct reporting and compliance.
    • Monitor, manage, oversee, and coordinate properly the usage, development, or integration of accounting processes or systems, as well as basic banking platforms.
    • Lead, mentor, and manage the accounts and finances team. This will be accomplished through the setting of goals for performance.
    • Work closely with the treasury, risk, compliance, operations, and business teams to ensure alignment between financial reporting and operational activities.
    • Maintain the highest ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism, as well as the security of financial data, and the code of conduct set by the bank.

    QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
    • Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, ACCA or equivalent is required.
    • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or MBA is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in Accounting or Finance.
    • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit management.
    • Strong knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and compliance.
    • Analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and decisiveness.
    • Strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage stakeholders.

    Chief Finance Officer - Banking

    JOB SUMMARY

    Our client in the banking sector and based in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to strengthen its management team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Finance Officer will provide the overall leadership and management of the finance function of the bank. They will be responsible for managing the bank’s financial resources and promoting prudent and just stewardship of its financial resources. This will be achieved by implementing strong systems and policies of internal control that will lead to the production and application of accurate financial data.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Offer strategic financial guidance in line with the goals of the organization.
    • Formulate and execute financial strategies, budgets, forecasts, and cost containment programs.
    • Map the accounting, reporting, finance, taxes, and cash management functions.
    • Comply fully with banking regulations, financial laws, as well as regulatory reporting.
    • Oversee financial risk management for the entire company, including credit, liquidity, and operational risks.
    • Monitor the financial activities and make recommendations on deviations for better profitability and efficiency.
    • Provide counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors regarding financial results, capital structure, and strategic investing.

    • Monitor internal control, auditing, and corporate governance structures.
    • Promote process improvements and financial system enhancements for greater accuracy, efficiency, and clarity.
    • Assist the growth and expansion of the business through financial modelling and analysis.
    • Effective capital allocation and balance sheet management within the organization.
    • Lead, develop, and build teams of finance, accounting, and treasury professionals.
    • Engage with other departments and support operational planning and overall business performance.
    • Monitored financial performance of branches for alignment with financial policies set by head office.
    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, statutory reports, and board papers.

    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE 

    • Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in the banking sector.
    • Previous experience as a Bank Manager or Branch Manager is mandatory.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree or professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA is an added advantage).
    • Strong understanding of banking operations, financial controls, and regulatory frameworks.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and core banking systems; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
    • Proven leadership, decision-making, and strategic planning abilities.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
    • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

    Money Laundering Reporting Officer

    A fast-growing fintech company is seeking a qualified and experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)to lead and manage its Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), and financial crime compliance framework. The role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Kenyan regulatory requirements while safeguarding the organization from financial crime and regulatory risk.

     Key Responsibilities:

    The MLRO will be responsible for: 

    • Acting as the principal officer responsible for AML/CFT compliance in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA), CBK Prudential Guidelines, and Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) requirements. 
    • Designing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s AML/CFT policies, procedures, and internal controls in line with regulatory and risk-based standards. 
    • Receiving, reviewing, and investigating internal suspicious transaction reports (STRs) and determining whether they should be escalated to the Financial Reporting Centre.
    • Filing external Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other statutory reports within prescribed timelines. 
    • Overseeing the company’s transaction monitoring systems, customer risk profiling, sanctions screening, and escalation processes. 
    • Ensuring robust Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) frameworks are implemented for high-risk customers, PEPs, and complex transactions. 
    • Conducting and updating enterprise-wide AML risk assessments covering products, customers, geographies, delivery channels, and emerging fintech risks.
    • Providing regular AML and financial crime risk reports to senior management and the Board.
    • Serving as the main point of contact for the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), and other regulators on AML matters. Leading regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews. 
    • Developing and delivering AML/CFT training and awareness programs for all staff. 
    • Advising the business on new products, partnerships, and technologies from an AML and financial crime risk perspective. 

    Qualifications & Experience: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field. 
    • Professional certification in AML, compliance, or financial crime such as CAMS, CFE, ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent will be a strong advantage.
    • Demonstrable experience working in AML, compliance, financial crime, risk, or regulatory roles within fintech, banking, payments, microfinance, SACCOs, or financial services. 
    • Strong working knowledge of POCAMLA, FRC guidelines, CBK Prudential Guidelines, and international AML/CFT standards.
    • Hands-on experience with transaction monitoring, KYC, sanctions screening, and STR reporting. 
    • Proven ability to engage with regulators, auditors, and senior management. Strong analytical, investigative, and report-writing skills. 
    • High ethical standards, independence, and professional judgment.
