    Head of IT Infrastructure

    Job Summary

    Lead the agile solution design, deployment & ongoing optimization & evolution of enterprise wide technology products and services (full stack engineering & ownership / control) in low complexity environments.

    Overall Job Purpose

    • The Head of Technology Infrastructure will deliver the infrastructure strategy, driving cloud strategy, driving adoption of new efficient, effective & cutting - edge new infrastructure technology.
    • The job purpose also entails strategic stakeholder management with technology vendors including public cloud service providers, e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, Cisco Juniper. Other partners include RBB, CIB, COO, Sourcing and Change to support project delivery.
    • The role is responsible for the maintenance of the technology infra structure policy, ensuring it is relevant & up to date always.
    • The Head of Technology Infrastructure is additionally accountable for the end-to-end delivery of all infrastructure services i.e., Network (intranet, Extranet, Internet access, Internet facing environments,3rd party connectivity via VPN’s, Internet breakouts, Load Balancers, and firewalls), Computing (OnPrem & Cloud).
    • Azure/AWS), Storage (OnPrem & Cloud), Backup, Data Center, Mobility, Voice Services and Print Services.

    Key Accountabilities

    Accountability:  Service Availability

    • The key responsibility is the delivery & execution of the Information Technology Infrastructure Strategy. The target is to maximise cost efficiency & performance. To enable & sustain continuous superior business outcomes.
    • Work with Sourcing & Centre Technology & Architecture Teams to procure & retire technology infrastructure efficiently.
    • Assure the banks technology assets from a Cyber Security perspective, ensuring timely patches & upgrades as per policy.
    • Target availability of 99.99% and reliability of Network, Computing, storage, backup, and print platforms that support business critical financial services for the Bank and ensure that IT can effectively meet service targets in accordance with planned business objectives.

    Key Activities

    Define and deliver IT Infrastructure Strategy.

    • Execute IT Infrastructure Strategy
    • Responsible for ensuring 99.99% uptime of Network, Computing, storage, backup, and print platforms.
    • Manage changes impacting the team, effectively minimizing risk and exposure.
    • Maintain regular contact with stakeholders during incident and problem resolution
    • Promote and develop both tactical and strategic ways to drive productivity and efficiency within the core responsibility areas.
    • Understand our customers’ needs and pursue the success of our clients, enabling effortless delivery

    • Stay abreast of industry and operational trends and role players and ensure that the department is well positioned to provide competitive and industry leading services.

    • Review performance of the area/unit against balanced scorecard components as prescribed by the Executive, discuss gaps and agree action plans to close gaps.

    • Hands-on technical depth enables direct oversight, problem-solving leadership and participation for complex infrastructure implementation, system upgrades and operational troubleshooting
    • Ensure proper monitoring of all IS devices and services.

    Accountability:  Business and cost management

    • Liaise with CIO to lead the technology infrastructure strategy and execution for the enterprise.
    • Conduct product and vendor evaluations ensuring best in class technologies and partners
    • Planning, project management and implementation leadership, identifying opportunities for automation, cost savings, and service quality improvement.
    • Work closely with and manage strategic vendor partner relationships. Setup and run the Governance with the partners. Build strategic relationships for creating value for the organization.
    • Participate in the formulation of the company's enterprise architecture and business system plans; assessing cost and feasibility, and ensuring the plan is aligned with and supports the
    • strategic goals of the business.
    • Approve re-allocation of resources between different areas e.g. allocate headcount or budgets within overall approved resources for the year.
    • Contribute to the development of strategy for the next 2-3 years by providing a view on potential improvements for products or services and an assessment of the existing situation and anticipated changes in the environment.
    • Investigate effectiveness of processes and systems in use and make alterations where required while ensuring adherence to global governance requirements.
    • Agree and manage service offerings and Service Level Agreements in conjunction with internal customers (agree annually and measure monthly).
    • Translate business strategy into meaningful operational targets and strategic focus areas for the business unit under management. Ensure that the focus areas are disseminated to all levels in the business unit.
    • Action integration of internal supply chain for the business unit. Work with seniors in those areas to improve service delivery for the business unit and ensure maximum utilization of shared services.

    Accountability: Risk Management

    • Ensure that all Networking, computing, storage, backup, and printers are fully cyber compliant.
    • Review and provide inputs to Control Self Assessments (CSA) and Risk and Control Assessments (RCA's) in the infrastructure services teams. Complete attestations to testify to the adequacy of controls on request.
    • Review the Business Continuity Management (BCM) plan prepared for all processes for adequacy. Ensure required tests of the plan are executed and that all test failures are addressed.
    • Build relationship with country Technology Risk and Compliance team and provide support wherever required.
    • Ensure that processes and controls are executed in daily work and understand the reasons for the controls and the consequences for failing to adhere to prescribed processes.
    • Coach the team members on areas for improvement and highlight major failures to the manager of the area
    • Facilitate the providence of evidence/supporting documents to auditors or management assurance consultants during formal reviews
    • Make team members aware of all changes to policies, processes and procedures that are being planned for the area and ensure that they are able to incorporate the changes on the effective date.
    • Contribute and deliver to the improvement of the risk profile by delivering improved governance, risk management, controls and compliance requirements.
    • Devise and implement an effective plan to deliver a satisfactory risk and audit profile for Operations & IT and achieve audit and assurance targets.
    • Action, drive and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) for all aspects to ensure ongoing production and quick turnaround times in cases where there are system down times e.g., Severity 1 and Severity 2 etc

    Accountability: People Management

    • Provide continuous people development and mentoring activities to managers and team professionals to achieve excellent business results.
    • Action and drive people management strategy with HR Business Partners (HRBP) for IS with a focus on talent management, recruitment attraction, resourcing, development, and retention.
    • Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal performance management (PM) and informal strengths-based coaching.
    • Monitor and maintain a succession plan for key roles using the formal Talent Management process for identified talent and approve succession plans for remaining roles.
    • Create effective workforce plans and recruitment demand plans for their areas. Approve leave requests for direct reports and ensure that they manage the leave planning for their teams effectively.
    • Ensure employees in the country are motivated and their efforts are recognised and rewarded.

    Education and experience required

    • Master’s Degree
    • An appropriate university degree, with preference for a B Sc., B Sc (Eng), BSc (Computers/IT)
    • Project management and Financial Management experience.
    • 10+ years’ total experience, including 5+ years in a production 24/7 high-availability multi-site
    • enterprise environment, including application hosting, voice and data networks, security and

    information protection

    • Proven ability to interpret strategy and execute effectively
    • Proven experience in managing and delivering on a complex business project portfolio.
    • Exposure to ITIL concepts and adoption.

    Head of IT Service Management

    Overall Job Purpose:

    • To deliver & execute IT Service Management Strategy. To lead a consolidated team of Technology Operations, including, Core Banking Operations, Service Desk, Application Support, IT Operations and End User Device Support.
    • To deliver & execute the Operations Stakeholder Management Strategy liaising with partners, suppliers, frontline & other colleagues. Ensuring regular and effective communication.
    • To provide leadership in Technology Risk Management. Ensuring timely asset patching.
    • To develop and own the country Technology Operations based on the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) service management framework and regional service desk set up in BSS with the aim of lifting the Capability Maturity Measurement Index, (CMMI) maturity of the Service Delivery department to level 4. The role also includes the management of Enterprise tooling, Continual Service Improvement as well as Asset and Configuration Management.
    • To drive and execute the strategy to service monitoring. To direct and manage the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the monitoring systems and tools including necessary hardware (H/W), software (S/W) and network infrastructure to enable the use of appropriate platform technology, as an integral and reliable component of business process within country. Drive convergence of technologies, ensure delivery of technology projects and liaise and negotiate with internal customers and technology vendors.

    Key Accountabilities

    Accountability:  Delivery Service Management and Reporting

    • Manage end-to-end ownership, to ensure that all technology requirements are met for day-to-day systems use, performance and maintenance, enhancements and change projects with adequate service level agreements in place for Country and the Shared Services hub.
    • Programme manage implementation of major system changes (e.g. Shared Service hub build out) including contracting with internal and external providers.
    • Ensure services escalation framework is developed and maintained for all Technology services across Country.

    •  Sell and motivate the implementation of service improvement plans/ initiatives.
    • Ensure signoff of Service Management artefacts by domain architects in the regional office.
    • Establish a mechanism for the measurement of stakeholders in their adherence to the defined Service Management principles
    • Participate in the formulation and clarification of Statements of Requirements, and any subsequent activities such as Proof of Concepts or product evaluations, by managing, controlling and supporting the interface role between vendors and other IT departments or Business units as regards Service Management related technologies and services

    • Allocate duties to team members to achieve operational targets including prioritisation and work schedules
    • Based on gaps identified, motivate requests to the manager for additional resources including people, budget and equipment
    • Obtain a thorough understanding of the country strategy and explain it to team members in such a way that they understand the contribution they have to make
    • Explain targets and take accountability for the monitoring and achievement of performance objectives in the department in terms of employee satisfaction, customer experience, cost performance, return on investments, risk, and compliance and governance requirements. Create quarterly and monthly plans to ensure delivery for the year
    • Rigorously monitor expenditure against approve budgets and put measures in place to address variances. Continuously identify areas for improved efficiency and reduced cost
    • Conduct basic statistical analysis to track performance variances and determine the root causes of errors. Make recommendations for productivity or process enhancements to process owners
    • Implement productivity improvement measures by coaching staff on any new processes or on their areas for improvement
    • Populate balanced scorecards for the specific department monthly. Work with the team to address shortcomings during the next month. Escalate any major issues identified to the next level manager
    • Participate in the measurement and reporting of internal and external Service Level Agreements on a monthly basis. Address any process failures specific to the department under management

    Accountability: Risk Management

    • Build relationship with country Technology Risk and Compliance team and provide support wherever required.
    • Coach team members on all the processes and controls that they must execute in their daily work and ensure that they understand the reasons for the controls and the consequences for failing to adhere to prescribed processes.
    • Test a sample of activities on a weekly basis by reviewing documentation and checking work completed by team members to see if control requirements are being adhered to. Coach the team members on areas for improvement and highlight major failures to the manager of the area
    • Provide evidence/supporting documents to auditors or management assurance consultants during formal reviews
    • Identify losses due to processing errors or internal fraud in the department. Escalate to the manager and provide all the required information to allow logging of the Risk and Loss events. Participate in the investigations
    • Explain the requirements for Business Continuity to team members, nominate team members to participate in BCM tests
    • Make team members aware of all changes to policies, processes and procedures that are being planned for the area and ensure that they can incorporate the changes on the effective date. Ensure that team members read circulars that are relevant to the area and answer questions they may have.

    • Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching. Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members.
    • Determine and analyse development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed.
    • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the team.
    • Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from Human Resources.

    Relationship Manager - Commercial Banking

    Job Summary

    • To manage and sustain a portfolio of corporate customers, building long term relationships founded on efficient and reliable support for their business. This is achieved particularly through quick risk decisions and managing consistency and quality of operational service.
    • The primary objective is to maximise risk-adjusted portfolio contribution.
    • The jobholder will be responsible for business development both with new customers and with existing customers where they are expected to increase “wallet share”.

    Overall Job Purpose

    • Manage the Wealth Managers and Support teams to ensure effective client service delivery.
    • Develop a high performing Wealth Management team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching. Encouraging frequent knowledge sharing between team members.
    • Determine and analyze development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed.
    • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the team.
    • Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from HR.
    • Create effective workforce and recruitment plans to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met. Plans should be revised at least twice a year.
    • Address poor performance through the formal Performance Accelerator program and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with.
    • Motivate team members and ensure that their efforts are recognized.

    Rigour compliance – 10%

    • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements. Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and Internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risk and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
    • Ensure compliance / adherence to CMA regulations on investments management.
    • Drive and own requirements for individual certification with relevant authorities
    • Ensure compliance with operations risk and rigor requirements e.g., KYC and anti- money laundering measures.
    • Ensure that all staff adhere to al Absa information Security policies and procedures through regular communication to staff and spot checks.
    • Conduct regular quality checks on all processes, focusing on transactions with high financial levels and operational risks of the process, including Crisis Management, systems, reviewing control reports etc.
    • Ensure that all Absa Africa procedures are followed.

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Masters/ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field (Investments, Finance, Law, Accounting/ Tax, Economics, Business Administration)
    • Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Certification by regulator (CMA)
    • 10years previous management and leadership roles in Asset Management environment.
    • Prior experience of working within Financial Services, preferably Asset Management

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Preferably experience in banking and wealth management products, broad -based product exposure.
    • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
    • Knowledge and experience of the onshore and offshore banking industry
    • Experience of working with senior stakeholders
    • Knowledge of strategic and tactical business planning processes
    • Financial management and knowledge of accounting practices.
    • Strong analytical/ numeracy skills
    • Delivery of imaginative solutions under pressure and in a change environment.
    • Ability to work on several tasks/ projects at the same time.
    • Technically proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, MS Project, Visio and PowerPoint and new tools such as Business Objects
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
    • Strong commercial focus
    • Ability to develop strong working relationships with clients
    • Analysis and judgement.
    • Team leading experience coupled with ability to work with senior stakeholders.

    Knowledge, Expertise & Experience

    (Relating to specialist knowledge and expertise required to undertake the role. May include knowledge of the Bank’s products, services, and policies) Essential

    • (Preferable) In- depth knowledge of the full Absa Retail Product set, Local Business Services, and Corporate Business Services including Treasury.
    • (Preferable) In- depth understanding of the full range of Asset Management product set, small business services
    • Build an understanding of technical support systems e.g., FCR, BOC, IBOC, Core Pricing and Billing
    • Good understanding of BARAF Risk Policy and Group governance requirements.
    • Detailed understanding of Wealth and Premier Banking Strategy, operating structure, and Interface with other functions.
    • Business management experience of a distributed channel; circa 3-5 years.
    • An understanding of the personal high value clients’ needs in the Kenyan market.
    • Good understanding of investment banking techniques and product.
    • Understanding of Absa Retail Strategy, operating structure, and interface with other functions.
    • Detailed working knowledge of Risk and Credit policies and procedures.
    • Good understanding of group structure and interfaces with other functions.
    • Detailed understanding of people policies and procedures.
    • Up to date knowledge of competitor and market activity in local area.
    • Graduate or relevant experience to compensate.

    • Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
