    Clinical Practice Educator, Pediatrics Critical Care Units (NICU, PICU,NHDU,PHDU)

    Responsibilities:

    • Leads the team in development, implementation and monitoring of unit based clinical policies and procedures
    • Takes lead in identification, definition and monitoring of unit based clinical indicators for
    • Is responsible for continuing education/training for nurses in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Assists the nurse manager, Paediatric Intensivist and neonatologists to initiate innovative and evidence-based strategies to improve patient training for nurses in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Participates in evaluation of care and outcomes through Mortality and Morbidity discussions, clinical incidence trends and clinical indicators training for nurses in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Together with the Nurse Manager, conducts regular evaluation of nurses and designs individual development plans based on identified learning/training needs in Pediatrics and neonatal critical care units
    • Is a resource person for the care team for all clinical matters in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Reviews patient allocation to determine correct patient assignment according to the nurse’s competence in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Ensures adequate orientation and settling of new nurses to assigned unit
    • Designs methods to motivate nurses in assigned unit to pursue individual professional growth and development
    • Develops and maintains effective networks both internal and external to improve nursing practice
    • Ensures compliance to documentation policy through spot-checks on nursing forms such Initial assessment, Vital signs chart, Patient Education Record, and fluid chart, treatment sheet and progress notes chart
    • Participates in evaluation of nursing documents to ensure their appropriateness in capturing patient information in Pediatrics and Neonatal critical care units
    • Takes lead in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) and ensures participation by   nurses.
    • Guides nursing staff in initiation of and participation in unit based as well as hospital wide nursing research projects.

     Requirements:

    • Registered nurse (KRN/M; KRCHN) with a BSc-Nursing degree
    • Current licensure with the Kenya Nursing Council
    • Pediatrics Critical Care training
    • Certification in BLS & EPLS
    • Proficient in Basic computer skills
    • Minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience in Pediatrics Critical Care Nursing in an acute care hospital.
    • Must possess teaching abilities, leadership qualities, professional judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and a sense of professional development.
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Pediatrics critical care nursing

    Clinical Nurse, Medical Surgical & Paediatrics Consulting Clinics

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepares consultation rooms, ensuring stocks, linen, basic equipment and stationery are available at all times
    • Performs basic assessment for all patients attending the clinic and designs care which is specific and appropriate to individual needs. Assessment includes measurement of vital signs, height, and weight
    • Confirms imaging and pathology reports and ensures these are present in CARE 2000 before patient is seen by the doctor
    • Prepares patient for physician examination and acts as chaperone where necessary
    • Maintains an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients
    • Assists the physician with clinic procedures where applicable and performs basic tests such as Glucose test and urinalysis
    • Proficiency in wound care
    • Assesses patient and family education needs and provides appropriate teaching based on their needs
    • Arranges for patients’ admission to the wards when necessary
    • Ensures safety of special populations such as paediatric, the elderly, psychiatric and patients with various forms of disabilities
    • Instructs patient and family regarding medications, investigations and follow up clinic appointments
    • Demonstrate awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals when necessary.
    • Observes infection control practices and maintains a clean and safe work environment for staff and patients
    • Maintains open communication with the patient and the multidisciplinary team in the clinics to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Participates in data collection and monitoring of clinic’s quality indicators
    • Is accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock, drugs and consumables
    • Responsible for safe use of equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift checks of the inventory and timely reporting of non-functional equipment to the unit supervisor
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients, reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies
    • Participates in unit-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks

    Requirements:

    Wound Care Nurse, Surgery

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform wound assessment, reassessment, and wound management for all patients.
    • Utilize principles of current wound management when providing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds.
    • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of staging system of wounds.
    • Develops skin care programs to prevent skin breakouts for patients.
    • Revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan of effectiveness.
    • Utilize appropriate pain management techniques, educates the patient and family regarding pain management
    • Provides education to patients undergoing surgery that result in an ostomy. Provide pre and post operating assessments and patient/family education
    • Knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and clinical condition.
    • Is a resource person to physicians, nursing and other hospital staff. Provides in-services on wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care and incontinence for the nursing staff
    • Communicates appropriately and clearly to nurse managers, nursing staff and physicians
    • Consults other healthcare professionals/departments as appropriate to provide interdisciplinary approach to patient’s needs.
    • Attends seminars, conferences, continuing education classes in the areas of wound prevention, wound management and ostomies. Participates in professional societies and stays current with changes, new advancement/treatments in wound care.
    • Knowledgeable of clinical products currently available on the market, evaluates the products and makes recommendations.
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multi-disciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive, and timely manner.
    • Perform pain assessment and reassessment, and initiate analgesia as per protocol
    • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the nurse manager, team leader or physician
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching
    • Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and to initiate Basic Life Support
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certificate in Basic life support (BLS)
    • Certificate in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (CWOCN) preferred
    • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in an acute care hospital.
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Medical-Surgical nursing
    • Demonstrate Leadership and management skills

    Unit Coordinator, Nursing- Temporary

    Responsibilities:

    • Update daily census on the computer system and ensures accurate bed allocation and billing class for the patients in the unit.
    • Manage Unit admissions, transfers and discharges, and communicates these movements to the Nurse Manager.
    • Ensure accurate filing of patients’ records such as insurance forms, diagnostic and clinical reports as per hospital policy.
    • Ensure availability of required stationery in the unit and in the nursing stations.
    • Responsible for unit stocks and prompt billing of used consumables, drugs and professional fees after unit procedures.
    • Assist the nurse manager with distribution and collection of Satisfaction Survey Questionnaires and is familiar with the Complaint handling System.
    • Maintains open communication of available beds for admission with patient services staff and duty managers.
    • Maintains physician fee for service book and ensure physicians have signed after ward rounds/procedures.
    • Responds to enquiries by visitors and staff and provides appropriate directions.
    • Alerts nurse manger about dissatisfied clients, incidences and any other unusual occurrences.
    • Ensures patient records are sent to Medical Records Department upon patient discharge.
    • Collaborates with Consulting Clinic staff to make follow up appointments for discharged patients
    • Handles incoming calls and directs them to the appropriate persons.
    • Works closely with security officer of the unit to control visitors.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum O ’level Certificate.
    • Heart saver certification.
    • Certificate/Diploma in Computer Operations or
    • Certificate/experience in Front Office Management
