    Kenya Country Director

    Key Responsibilities:

    Program Expansion & New Business Development – 25%:

    • Lead the identification and establishment of new program opportunities throughout Kenya.
    • Oversee the development of specific expansion strategies for strategic partnerships, and government adoption.
    • Lead the development proposals and concept notes that drive impact and revenue in line with established strategic targets.
    • Provide leadership in all aspects of program design to ensure consistent quality, including the incorporation of cross-cutting themes, quality data analysis, lessons learned and best practices.
    • Ensure that program implementation maintains high quality is aligned with BOMA’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

    Program Implementation – 15%:

    • Ensure that BOMA delivers on all its contractual program obligations, ensuring that program delivery hits all targets, comes in on budget and on time.
    • Oversee the creation of well written and comprehensive reports, submitted on time to partners and donors.
    • Ensure effective, transparent use of resources in compliance with BOMA and donor policies/procedures.
    • Oversee budget management of sub-grantees/sub-contractors, if applicable.
    • Build and maintain operational systems that ensure proper administrative support for programs, as well as segregation of duties between finance and operations.
    • Create professional project management practices for all programs, and ensure staff have sufficient training to execute on those practices.
    • Support teams to improve data collection, management, and use to build a culture of adaptive management, high-quality program performance, and learning.

    Team Development – 15%:

    • Create a culture of accountability, transparency, trust and collaboration at BOMA.
    • Advocate for and oversee professional development and performance management of all staff.
    • Seek ways to ensure effective management and communication systems enhance the work performance of all staff.
    • Coach senior-level staff to manage and develop high-performance teams and develop and implement program strategies focused on impact and results.
    • Coordinate and lead regular Kenya/Country Leadership Team engagements.
    • Serve as the primary authority on safety & security of team, participants and visitors.

    Representation & Influence – 10%:

    • Establish close and productive relationships with donors, partner organizations, as well as relevant government authorities in Kenya to promote BOMA’s work and reputation as the ideal graduation approach partner.
    • Represent BOMA at all relevant meetings and conferences as requested.
    • Drive BOMA’s brand as an innovative, high impact, poverty alleviation organization.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning – 10%:

    • Support the MERL Manager to ensure high-level results are captured and disseminated to stakeholders.
    • Ensure that robust monitoring and evaluation, quality data collection and analysis systems are in place, adhered to and used as a decision-making tool, encouraging consistency across programs.

    Finance and Administration – 10%:

    • Support the Finance and Administration Manager to improve operational efficiency and cost effectiveness around key processes.
    • Improve efficiency on financial processes and security of financial records.
    • Strengthen staff capacity on budget and financial management for increased cost efficiency and program effectiveness.

    Board Matters – 10%:

    • Arrange meetings of the Board which involves the issue of proper notices of meetings, preparation of agenda, circulation of relevant papers as well as taking and producing minutes to record the business transacted at the meetings and the decisions taken.
    • Ensure the necessary registers are established and properly maintained
    • Inform NGO Board of any significant changes/resolutions e.g. appointment or resignation of directors etc.
    • Advise the Board on good practice in corporate governance, e.g. giving guidance on the legal implications of the way it discharges its duties, runs meetings, and makes decisions.
    • Promote the compliance framework to safeguard the integrity of the organization.

    Other – 5%:

    • Support organizational decision-making to reflect BOMA’s mission and values.
    • Support BOMA’s strategic planning processes and regular performance assessments with a focus on scaling with operational excellence.
    • Drive BOMA’s effort to deliver on its annual program reach and milestone goals to support scaling.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Does this sound like you?

    • BA/S or equivalent in social science, management, international development or other relevant fields. MA/S preferred.
    • 5-7 years relevant development experience, including at least 3 years in a senior position.
    • Experience managing humanitarian relief and/or transitional programs in areas affected by insecurity and conflict.
    • Previous experience working in Africa is strongly preferred.
    • Proven track record in program design, proposal writing and development, and donor relations.
    • Trained and knowledgeable in design, monitoring, and evaluation concepts and methodologies. M&E experience should include conducting assessments and surveys, program design using a logical framework approach, selecting indicators, implementing monitoring plans, coordinating evaluations and data analysis.
    • Experience supervising international and national staff, starting up programs and working in difficult environments.
    • Experience managing programs in relevant technical area(s) including, Gender, Market systems, Graduation Approach, Livelihoods and Health.
    • Knowledge of major donor requirements and compliance issues.
    • Strong management skills with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural issues.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meets deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
    • History of working effectively with host country government, national and international NGO partners, and collaborating with other actors, including the private sector.
    • Solid knowledge of and experience with security protocols is essential.
    • Fluency in written and oral English is required.

    Research and Learning Director

    Key Responsibilities:

    Research and Learning Strategy & Planning:

    • Establish and implement an approach for institutionalizing learning within the organization as part of the knowledge management function.
    • Ensure an effective research and learning agenda that optimizes innovation and learning for program improvement, cost efficiency and scale ambitions of the organization and is contributing to the organizational and sectoral knowledge gap around the Graduation Approach, livelihoods, gender and resilience building of vulnerable populations.
    • Ensure the Learning and Impact unit is resourced and supported adequately.
    • Manage work plans and budgets, and support country offices as needed, subsidiaries and other entities to implement the Learning and Impact agenda.
    • Liaise and network with internal and external Learning and Impact experts to bring about global best practices across the organization.
    • Maintain and grow partnerships with various research and evaluation bodies across Africa.

    Systems and Processes design:

    • Lead and support the design of impact studies and evaluations in collaboration with the technical and research and impact teams.
    • Introduce a learning agenda in which research, impact and other evidence is captured effectively and fed back into programming; establish links from data, and regular reports into the learning agenda with the support of the data, information and systems teams.
    • Facilitate the production of the Annual Technical Report in collaboration with the technical leads.
    • Ensure recommendations of this report are followed up on/implemented.
    • Establish data-driven approaches through enabling a learning culture across the organization.
    • Support the Learning and Impact unit to produce audience-friendly communication on impact data through analytics and regular development of information/knowledge products to be shared internally and externally.
    • Enable BOMA’s research work to be translated into position papers on relevant thematic areas and aligned with the objectives of BOMA’s Strategic Plan 2022-2027.
    • Produce donor briefs using impact and outcome data evidenced through evaluations in coordination with other units.
    • Review and establish standard operating procedures and/or guidelines to support the organization in designing and delivering impact, evaluation, research and learning processes.
    • Introduce innovative but credible methods (as opposed to relying on traditional and time-consuming approaches) to gauge changes effected by programmes and/or context-related issues that affect BOMA interventions immediately and effectively.

    Developing, Managing and Disseminating Learning Products and Outlets:

    • Lead the development of learning products such as Fact Sheets, Policy briefs, Policy Position papers, Publications, etc. and innovative ways of packaging such products for different audiences.
    • Ensure that learning products are made easily available and accessible for colleagues within and outside the region.
    • Lead the management and implementation of learning outlets such as Evidence Days/Events, Webinar Series, and professional talent development of BOMA staff.
    • Be a champion in the development of an organizational culture for knowledge sharing and cross learning, particularly supporting senior leadership to champion and use evidence and learning in all we do.

    Networking and Partnerships:

    • Keep abreast of relevant developments, evidence, resources and good practices from BOMa Project Activities and other organizations that can be applied in support of regional priorities.
    • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other technical leads (thematic and cross functional), with a view of improving outcomes and our ability to demonstrate and showcase that impact.
    • Support the regional technical team to develop and share new learning products and information.

    Technical Support

    • Develop standardized training materials/curriculum on research methods, impact and evaluations and related topics and enable the delivery of these training to country offices and other entities.
    • Support and direct country office teams in undertaking quality impact studies, evaluations and research; review terms of references, methodologies and reports for quality and adherence to relevant standards.

    Administrative/Other

    • Contribute to the Impact team and country-level research annual planning & budgeting;
    • Lead or participate in internal and external steering committees and technical working groups as assigned and appropriate.

    Team Management

    • Supervise and lead the Research and Learning Manager, Create and maintain a work environment where mutual respect among team members prevails and where the pursuit of individual and collective excellence is valued.
    • Promote individual accountability and commitment by clearly and regularly communicating expectations and providing constructive feedback

    Does this sound like you?

    • An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral), preferably in Social Sciences, Statistics, related areas or related fields.
    • 7+ years of experience in development settings including designing and leading impact studies, evaluation and research including at least 3-4 years of field/country office experience and 4+ years in a leadership role.
    • Record of impactful thought leadership and advocacy around important social and/or technical issues.
    • Fluency in the role of data and evidence tools – such as impact evaluations, representative surveys, monitoring systems, and/or machine learning – to create insights and impact.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage effectively with a range of stakeholders including senior managers, Boards, team members, private and public sector partners, and young evaluators.
    • Demonstrated experience in statistical/quantitative and qualitative methods, designing credible studies focusing on impact and evaluations at a headquarters level as well as Knowledge of key IT/e-learning softwares

    Mentor (Loima)

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Support the adapted Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) for Nutrition Business groups by monitoring and providing mentorship to the participants.
    • In a collaborative process with the community (Participatory Rural Appraisal) and working closely with the village councils, target and identify eligible program participants based on the standard criteria
    • Conduct regular data entry of business groups, saving groups and motorcycle log sheets using a mobile data collection platform
    • Conduct nutrition integrated business skills training and savings skills training to participants within the REAP locations.
    • Participate in data collection for participants during baseline, mid-line and end line surveys and any other data collection activities.
    • Represent BOMA in the designated Ward, including being a representative at the local development committees.
    • Draft reports on Business and Saving groups performance within the respective Wards/locations.
    • Perform a minimum of agreed visits per week to the business and savings groups for which you are responsible and upload all data collected on daily basis.

    Qualifications

    • At least a Diploma in Community Development, Social Work or another related discipline.
    • Minimum one (1) year experience managing livelihood and community development projects, specifically with a nutrition component. Proven experience in data collection is an added advantage.
    • Possess excellent interpersonal skills; candidates should be able to relate well to both the women with whom we work, and the BOMA Field Officer.
    • Be self-driven, and able to work with minimal staff supervision
    • Must be a native of the respective ward you are applying for with working knowledge of English, Swahili and the local language
    • Have a valid motorcycle license and has experience on how to ride a motorcycle
