    Protection Volunteer

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Conduct Systematic outreach services to targeted populations to facilitate service access by everyone including the most vulnerable population.
    • Offer Individual protection assistance through survival risk screening, issuance of various targeted assistance through interventions such as In-kind assistance, reasonable accommodation, cash assistance, and facilitating referral/ tracking with an outcome verification. 
    • Document activities and client data accurately document protection assistance information, and safely store all information and records while adhering to the data protection policies.  
    • Reporting, Submit weekly reports to the Protection Assistant and contribute to the development of regular activity achievements.
    • Implementation of Psychosocial support groups (GPM+) in the community for at-risk groups.
    • Work with the community-based structures, leaders, and community to ensure that they access and participate in the IRC interventions, building their capacity as first-line responders for sustained programs.
    • Community mobilization and engagement, with the support of the community health workers, mobilize the community for various interventions such as community focus group discussions, and information sharing on protection focusing on rights, entitlements, available services, and channels for reporting complaints and feedback.
    • Help in designing, developing, and disseminating protection Information education and communication materials.

    Coordination & Networking

    • Maintain and strengthen existing networks through other service providers at the community level, to ensure that survivors receive quality services and support both at the agency levels.
    • Participate in capacity-building training for the local partners around psychosocial support.
    • Strengthen and maintain networks with community leaders, women leaders, and service providers to ensure that survivors receive compassionate support from the community and to encourage greater communication, collaboration, and coordination among partners (protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors)
    • Identify new community structures to work with to ensure wholesome support to the clients.

    Community Engagement & Outreach

    • Conduct sensitization, dialogue, and mediation sessions with the wider population about protection-related issues.
    • Identify and strengthen Community structures through engaging community leaders, county govt, and other stakeholders to ensure that the women & girls receive adequate support at the community level.
    • Support in the dissemination of relevant information during Community protection &SGBV forums and meetings.

    Monitoring & Documentation.

    • Document all activities: Meetings, Training, events, Field monitoring, etc using appropriate documentation and reporting tools in the sector as required and ensure that all documents/data collected are properly and safely filed and stored.
    • Actively plan and submit weekly and monthly work plans and progress reports against set work plans using agreed reporting tools.
    • Develop, print, and distribute IEC materials on behavioral change and awareness aspects.
    • Prepare and share weekly and monthly reports as required.

    Others

    • Fulfil any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    • Able to identify different forms of protection risks and GBV.

    Program Development and Partnerships Senior Advisor

    Job Overview 

    The Program Development & Partnerships Senior Advisor will provide support to drive the ERD Technical Unit’s partnerships, and business development (BD) priorities, as set by ERD leadership and in the Economic Wellbeing Strategy. They will work in close collaboration with global and regional technical leaders and teams, as well as the Grant Operations & Analytics Team (GOAT) to develop and drive a global fundraising strategy for ERD. They will provide business development and program design support on Technical Unit-led or strategic proposals, focusing on both private and public/institutional donors, as well as cultivating strategic partnerships. As is strategically important, they may flex to support significant single-country or regional bids as well. Overall, the Program Development & Partnerships Senior Advisor is co-responsible for setting the BD strategy, assembling inputs to create compelling bids, gap filling in the BD process as needed/relevant, and driving ultimate bid success through correct donor intel and positioning, strong bid submission, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

    Major Responsibilities 

    Strategy and Capture 

    • Develop and drive a global funding strategy for ERD in collaboration with global and regional technical leadership.
    • Adapt, strengthen, and roll out new and existing tools and processes, such as IRC’s Business Development Manual, for ERD to pre-position and respond to new funding opportunities in line with the Economic Wellbeing Strategy
    • Partner with and coordinate knowledge and information sharing with the Awards Management Unit (AMU) for public fundraising and GPPS/IPP for private fundraising, capturing priority needs across the portfolio, and providing accurate guidance to technical leaders and executive leaders for bid development
    • Track a pipeline of upcoming opportunities and circulate to key staff
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders to plan for staff needs and business development capacity requirements to successfully write and budget for winning bids
    • Coordinate internal competition processes for unsolicited donor submissions by working closely with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to facilitation of expressions of interest from global technical leadership and strengthening ideas for internal competitions 

    Business Development and Program Design  

    • Be the focal point for TU-led opportunities, as needed. This includes: 
      • Ensuring that the Project Design Meetings (PDM) take place on time for ERD TU-led awards, adapting PDM agendas to the specific opportunity, providing (or arranging) PDM facilitation
      • Ensuring overall quality, coherence and logic in project design, promoting integration with other sectors as needed, partners' meaningful participation, adherence to IRC’s IMPACT quality standards and scale considerations
      • Escalating key decisions to management group as relevant
      • Being mindful of competitiveness aspects throughout the design process
      • Ater the PDM, sharing core decisions and ensuring their validation by technical leadership and partners
    • Provide advice and support on budget development to TU staff; review budgets to ensure consistency with the proposal design
    • Write non-technical sections and edit all sections for TU-led proposals
    • Coordinate with the internal stakeholders on the review and signature process of agreements and contracts to closely follow IRC processes for award 
    • Coordinate technical input during negotiations with donors on any requested changes to the proposal
    • Upon request, organize re-design meetings at inception phase or during pre-established learning moments
    • Gather technical insights across the Technical Unit and consolidate for proposals in which multiple Global Practice Areas are represented

    Partnerships Strategy 

    • Support in defining and leading the ERD’s approach to partnerships including both global and local partnerships, working closely with the Grants Operations and Analytics Partnerships team to ensure successful pre- and post-award partnership operations
    • Lead coordination to drive all aspects of the partnerships strategy and management for TU, with a strong focus on building effective partnerships with local civil society, women-led organizations, and other local actor organizations, and evolving tools, processes and ways-of-working to be fit-for-purpose for TU-led projects and strategic priorities 
    • Identify and evaluate opportunities for private sector partnerships required to effectively deliver the EWB strategy both as part of but also outside specific BD opportunities
    • Identify and evaluate opportunities for partnerships with academic or research centers, with Research & Innovation colleagues as appropriate, with a goal of identifying more research partnership opportunities from the global South

    Desired Experience and Skills 

    • Education: Degree in economics, business, international development, international relations, or relevant field or equivalent combination of education and work experience background is required. Sound training on the use of data and research evidence and rigorous analytic skills are an advantage.
    • 6-8 years of progressive experience providing technical and/or bid leadership to multi-year, multi-million-dollar business development opportunities in economic  or livelihoods development.
    • Strong capacity to understand the humanitarian system and operating context and coordinate the relevant technical inputs from within and outside ERD TU
    • Familiarity with managing large-scale, complex portfolio and experience using strategic insights and data from varied sources to support portfolio management, pivoting and alignment to organizational and sectoral goals
    • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills and ability to analyses trends based on a diverse set of data and insights 
    • Demonstrating experience leading the development, review and implementation of systems, policies and processes in collaboration with other functional areas including Finance, Awards, Advocacy, MEAL  
    • Experience in building partnerships for development and humanitarian funding as well as negotiation of programmatic and financial contractual arrangements with donors and partners
    • Demonstrated expertise in working with both public and private donors and knowledge of the funding landscape for economic development, multi-purpose cash, livelihood development, and/or financial inclusion
    • Experience with some of the following donors programmatic and advocacy priorities, funding instruments and cycles: USAID, BHA, PRM, Irish Aid, FCDO, AFD, Global Affairs Canada, Swiss Cooperation, GFFO
    • Experience and comfort interrogating partnership practices and familiarity with emerging developments including growing attention to power-shifting, localization and technical assistance models for INGOs
    • Knowledge of public and private fundraising - appetite and curiosity about building collaborative pathways with philanthropy and private sector 
    • Experience in developing and managing project concepts and funding proposals for humanitarian / development work with the ability to turn concepts and strategy into measurable action

    Anticipatory Action Senior Research Officer

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Secure National ethics approval for anticipatory action and climate resilience research studies
    • Work closely with program implementation team to map implementation activities and coordinate research timeline and work plan with the program implementation timeline and work plan.
    • Review research instruments and tools and provide feedback. Secure input and approval on research instruments from all meaningful stakeholders in the IRC Kenya ERD team
    • Responsible for leading research instrument translation and supporting necessary pre-testing of the instrument
    • Liaise with and maintain IRC’s relationship with external research partners for the various projects, including coordinating and facilitating in-country visits
    • Responsible for ensuring fidelity to research design (including the randomization process) and adherence to research protocols and standards established by the IRC
    • Responsible for sharing weekly internal progress reports with the project management and research teams on the various research projects and flagging any challenges with research activities. Provide support on the ground to troubleshoot and resolve research related challenges and bringing up issues to the research team, as necessary
    • Responsible for providing input into donor reports, as needed
    • Responsible for reviewing research outputs and providing feedback and securing input from all meaningful stakeholders in the IRC Kenya office.

    Working Environment

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Development Studies, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Management, Humanitarian Assistance, Range Management, Geography or a related field.
    • Five years’ experience in research design and implementation with at least 3 years working on randomized controlled trials
    • Experience in refugee livelihood programming is a strong asset
    • Significant experience undertaking field research in arid and semi-arid (ASAL) counties of Kenya.
    • Experience programming digital surveys and conducting digital data collection with experience in cloud-based programmes such as Commcare, Survey CTO, KOBO Toolbox etc.
    • Strong data analysis skills using either STATA, R or SAS statistical software with the ability to conduct both descriptive and inferential analysis such as econometrics, regression etc.
    • Proficiency in English and Swahili
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and email

    Electrician

    Key Responsibilities  

    • Routinely inspect electrical systems such as wiring, fixtures, and appliances and immediately fix them.
    • Identifying faults or hazards in the properties and address the issue to the line manager for an immediate fix
    • Troubleshooting electrical system failures ensuring electricity power is always sustainable within the IRC premises.
    • To have the ability to fix/replace electrical cabling and wiring with standard performance while adhering to safety and performance standards
    • Testing of electrical systems with electrical tester and find out defaults for repair.
    • Conducting maintenance repairs on old or faulty fixtures of electrical system.
    • Providing suggestions for electrical equipment, cabling replacement and chooses electrical materials based on budget, location, and intended uses of building
    • Installing new electrical appliances in the building when necessary.
    • Interprets drawings and bill of quantities specifications to map layouts for all electrical works.
    • Receive and complete work orders.
    • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

    Maintenance.

    • Inspect buildings and facilities, to identify any issues.
    • Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures.
    • Plan and schedule repairs.
    • Conduct periodic quality checks on equipment and systems to ensure everything is up to standard.
    • Perform general maintenance tasks.
    • Maintain the inventory records for equipment and maintenance supplies.

    Safety

    • Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
    • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

    Nutrition Volunteer

    KEY RESPONSIBILIES:

    Programming

    • Direct implementation of ComPAS/CMAM, ensuring management of all under-fives/PLWs enrolled in OTP/TSFP programs in line with the WHO, IMAM and ComPAS protocol. Participate in data collection, data entry in registers and tablets, and reporting of CMAM/ComPAS data.
    • Manage nutrition commodities and food supplies at facility level/kitchen including receipt, inventory management, reporting and forecasting of commodity needs. Daily reconciliation of nutrition commodities with the pharmacy staff.
    • Ensure timely identification and treatment of acutely malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women by creating or strengthening nutrition surveillance and assessment systems at health facilities and community. Train and mentor staff -CHWs, OPD staff, auxiliary nurses on family MUAC approach.
    • Participate in daily ward rounds in the SC ward ensuring that all required observations, prescribed treatment, and procedure are properly carried out and documented in the patients’ cards in line with the national IMAM guidelines. Ensure all children under six months and their mothers are managed according to the MAMI protocol/IMAM guidelines.
    • Mentor the nutrition assistant staff and auxiliary nurses to manage patients with acute malnutrition as per IMAM protocol.
    • Train and mentor IRC nutrition staff and other key stakeholders in GMP, MIYCN and IMAM, IMAM surge and MAMI.
    • Submit weekly/monthly CMAM/HIS/MIYCN/GMP reports to the nutrition manager for compilation.
    • Ensure integration of nutrition services with health- ensure provision of quality nutrition assessment, counselling and supports in NCD clinics, MCH/OPD, Medical wards and Special clinics (POPC, LBW/Preterm).
    • Together with community health, plan and conduct continuous monitoring of patients enrolled in nutrition programs through home visits.
    • Develop hospital menu including special meals/diet to cater for the nutritional needs of the patients
    • Participate in program strategic planning and roll-out of new program areas in liaison with key stakeholders and cooperating partners.
    • Adhere and uphold IRC code of conduct at respective work area.
    • Directly supervise nutrition incentive staff in their respective service delivery stations.
    • Participate in nutrition assessments-KAP/SENS surveys, global and national global events and activities-WBW, Malezi bora campaign.
    • Identify training gaps for the incentive staff and beneficiaries within nutrition program and communicate the same to the nutrition officer.
    • Implement MIYCN at facility and community levels and integrating with CMAM programs through group and individual counselling sessions, health education sessions.
    • Support the nutrition officer in the development of quarterly wok plans for the activities to be implemented.
    • Attend all program implementation meetings.

    Supervision, Capacity building and Human Resource

    • Directly supervise incentive staff providing nutrition services at health facilities and community.
    • Conduct capacity assessment of nutrition incentive staff and develop capacity development plan to address the capacity gaps identified.
    • Under the guidance of the human resource manager, conduct performance appraisal for the direct reports. Conduct regular check-ins to identify performance issues and develop performance improvement plans for non-performing staff.
    • Address conflicts promptly within the nutrition unit when they arise.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Hold a Diploma in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized College/University.
    • MUST Registration and Up to date License with KNDI
    • Possess at least three (2) years’ experience in implementing nutrition related activities in a busy hospital and community set up. 
    • S/He must possess ability to analyze and interpret both quantitative and qualitative programmed data.
    • MUST have a valid certificate of Good Conduct.
    • Must possess excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Must have cognate skills in computer applications.
    • MUST possess a high level of integrity and with good interpersonal skills
    • Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.
    • Must be Somali Speaking

    Required experience:

    • Training and expertise in CMAM and MIYCN.
    • Expertise in MAMI, ComPAS and IMAM Surge is an added advantage.
    • Strong communication skills, oral, written and presentation.
    • Previous experience in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands of Kenya
    • Previous experience working in insecure contexts
    • Extremely flexible and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
    • Strong background in humanitarian projects.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft teams, and use of digital data collection applications e.g., CommCare, KOBO
