    International Expansion Director

    Mission Statement for the Role:

    • To own the end to end strategic and operational aspects of the company's international expansion. International expansion is at the core of Poa's ability to scale rapidly and exponentially. Identifying best market opportunities to meet our strategic goals as ultra low cost operator across Africa.

    Overall Responsibility:

    • International expansion roadmap

    Financial:

    • Headcount, Project CAPEX/OPEX

    People:

    • Team to be hired, as and when needed

    Key SMART Results for A-Player Success- Year 1

    • Understand Poa's operating model, business model, service delivery and USPs like the back of your hand - Q1
    • Push the market study conducted by selected consultancy through USTDA to hit the agreed deadlines - Q1
    • Review playbooks for market entry shortlisted countries and provide/solicit feedback from local subject matter experts - Q2
    • Provide on-the-ground evaluation of playbooks, forging relationships with local partners/experts- Q2
    • License applications in shortlisted countries issued, that meet the local criteria - Q3
    • Playbook for market entry into these countries co-created with the selected partner - Q4
    • Strategic partnerships signed with existing/new partners in the shortlisted countries for all business critical activities - Q4

    Level of Management Experience required (Mandatory & Nice to Have)

    • Mandatory - senior experience in high tech operations and international expansion across Africa
    • Department stage of development where this role sits (starting, preparing for scale, scaling, mature)
    • Prepare for Scale / Systemization / Team Building / Coaching / Mentorship

    Key Competencies Criticality (H,M,L)

    • Forge relationships across various cultures to support international expansion, across various functions- H
    • Operated a country rollout team and can demonstrate key critical success factors for international expansion- H
    • Ability to translate / synthesize business intent into local rollout plans- H
    • Experience of operating at a senior level in a consumer technology service business- M
    • Designed and deployed operating models that have successfully operated with both insource and outsource partners to optimize implementation across Africa- H
    • Strong collaborative interaction across multiple parts of business, such as customer experience, operations, procurement,    legal/regulatory- M
    • Held budgetary responsibility for end to end country rollout function- M

    Mandatory Criteria if Any (e.g. must have directly managed at least ten people) with no exceptions to hire

    • Must have rolled out existing operations into new African markets
    • Must have built and supported rapid large scale growth organization in Africa
    • Must have strong network in African markets in the telecoms space
    • Willingness to travel and visit new potential markets

    Impact Director

    Mission Statement for the Role:

    • To own the end to end technical and operational aspects of the company's impact. Impact is at the core of Poa's ability to scale, as it is fully integrated with our core offering. Impact will assist in both improving the lives of the communities we serve, as well as create the framework for the same towards other stakeholders and as such, drive the narrative.

    Overall Responsibility:

    • Impact ('for good'), ESG

    Financial:

    • Headcount, Project CAPEX/OPEX

    People:

    • Team to be hired, 1-2 staff initially. Grow as and when needed

    Key SMART Results for A-Player Success- Year 1

    • Understand how Poa drives impact in the communities and countries where we operate (both the positives and opportunity areas); articulate into a Theory of Change - Q1
    • Develop roadmap to improve/increase impact. Get buy-in of company/management/board - Q1
    • Implement roadmap across company - Q4
    • Communicate impact to stakeholders. Develop narrative, build momentum; tell Poa's impact story internally and externally - Q3
    • Foster a culture of impact in company; build internal understanding around how solution design in all departments fits into the Theory of Change - Ongoing

    • Balance all impact with the company's strategy and commercial objectives - Ongoing
    • Measure and report on /quantify ESG and its impact to management, board, and shareholders - Ongoing

    • Ability to facilitate the process of turning impact data into meaningful stories for the organization -H
    • Worked with large funding organizations such as USAID, DFID and The Gates Foundation as well as other entities in the impact investment community and is comfortable speaking their language -M
    • Experience working in international development and a deep understanding of the sector -H
    • Possess strong analytical, evaluation design, and methodological skills, and utilizes “right-fit” methods for a broad range of quantitative and qualitative approaches to communicate a rigorous, yet compelling story about poa's impact - H
    • Strong network in the 'for good' development space -M
    • Held budgetary responsibility for end to end impact function -M
    • Ability to facilitate the process of turning impact data into meaningful stories for the organization -M
    • Owned and delivered impact and ESG plan in high tech/fast moving environment -M

    Mandatory Criteria if Any with no exceptions to hire

    • Excellent communication and writing skills, with a keen ability to synthesize and present complex data in a simple, compelling, meaningful way (ability to produce beautiful and top-notch data visualization is a plus)
    • Must have worked in/with rapid large scale growth organization preferably in East Africa
    • Experience in survey methodology and monitoring social or environmental outcomes in a development context
    • Experience in owning impact and ESG domain
    • Role is preferably Nairobi based and requires field trips
