    Engineer - Fixed Solutions Architecture & Optimization

    Detailed Description

    Reporting to the Manager - Fixed Solutions: Architecture & Optimization the position holder will be responsible for crafting the network architecture, planning, installation & automation of Fixed Solutions services & infrastructure including FTTH and fixed wireless access to provide a cost-efficient, scalable and resilient network that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with fiber planning teams on multiservice access node (OLT) planning in the network to maximize coverage and minimize exposure to physical & logical faults.
    • Install, configure, upgrade & commission service access nodes for FTTH services.
    • Design plan & implement broadband gateway nodes for Fixed services.
    • Assist support teams with root cause analysis of persistent problems affecting residential Fixed service experience and recommend network optimizations to fix the problems.
    • Design & implement automation journeys for Fixed solutions repetitive tasks and service activation, modification, and de-activation processes.
    • Forecast Fixed services traffic & subscriber trends and plan for capacity, licensing, and optimizations to ensure service availability and resiliency while optimizing costs.
    • Enhance Fixed solutions reporting & analytics capabilities for key network & customer service KPIs.
    • Ensure up to date documentation of all projects implemented.
    • Continuously evaluate and propose relevant emerging network technologies and solutions that improve customer experience or add features, services, and functionality.
    • Carry out trials, proofs of concept & sourcing initiatives for Fixed services infrastructure, solutions, new technologies and services.
    • Carry out regular vendor & supplier engagement on performance, existing and new solution offerings.
    • Work with commercial teams and offer technical expertise on new & existing service offerings to align network design with organizational goals.
    • Work with other technology teams to ensure Fixed Solutions services are well planned, maintained & optimized.

    Professional / Technical qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, IT or related field.
    • Work Experience of at least 3 years with specialized role in a busy telecommunications / Service provider environment –Involved in network planning, automation or support, implementation & commissioning.
    • Knowledge of Passive Optical Network architecture, design, infrastructure and operations.
    • End to end broad knowledge of 4G and 5G fixed wireless access networks
    • Capability to draft and evaluate technical requirement specifications and requests for proposals.
    • Capability to design, integrate, test and validate technology features and functionality through lab set-ups and proofs of concept.
    • Capability to do network capacity planning, projections and forecasting.
    • Capability to initiate and take technical lead and ownership on projects from conceptualization to implementation
    • Capability to design future proofed service provider networks for scale & resilience
    • Capability to do deep analysis of repeated fixed network problems driving customer demand and recommend optimizations to improve customer experience.
    • Experience with designing and implementing networks using common routing protocols including IS-IS, BGP and OSPF as well as layer 2 & layer 3 VPNs
    • Experience installing and commissioning metro switches, Optical Line Terminals, Multi-Service Access Nodes, access routers and broadband network gateways.
    • Aptitude to understand call flows, do protocol analysis, packet capture and traffic inspection
    • Familiarity with aspects of network automation for purposes of service provisioning, data collection and reporting.
    • Vendor and internal stakeholder management and collaboration capability
    • Keen interest on emerging broadband trends, standards and technologies.
    • An overall end-to-end approach to fixed solutions with a focus on network evolution to improve customers’ experience.

    Engineer – Access Transmission Planning

    Detailed Description

    Reporting to the Principal Engineer –Transmission Planning, the role holder is tasked with the modeling, planning, design, and optimization of reliable transmission systems /networks in support of fixed services (enterprise and consumer) and mobile services back haul requirements

    Key Responsibilities

    • Delivery of timely and quality Transmission and IP Solutions on Fiber, Microwave, Vsat, IPRAN DWDM, GPON etc. Plans within the project schedule and with the correct constraints (capacity thresholds, reliability etc.)
    • Compilation of topology maps, schematics, Google route, building entry points & floor plans in GIS formats.
    • Optimal Transmission design and implementation plans that saves on CAPEX and NOPEX requirements.
    • Maintain Accurate Transmission and IP routing plans meeting the service descriptions such as reliability and Redundancy.
    • Review of BOQs against the designs for Fiber, Microwave, IPRAN, GPON, and DWDM Projects.
    • Supplier Management, Analysis of Subcontractors quotations & contracts and Process management with SLA setting with Supplier, Subcontractors, and other 3rd parties.
    • Monitoring capacity threshold per route in line with set KPIs (70%) booking on Links, fiber cores and Ducts.
    • Ensure reliability of planned design to achieve accurate, timely and economical plans e.g., performance of link against link design specs once built.
    • Ensuring accurate, up-to date database documentation on network planning, design, implementation in addition to capacity planning, Routings, RFIs and fiber core provisioning in TIBCO, Connect Master, Cell base, Map info, atoll, NQMS, OSP Insight etc.
    • Schedule periodical audit function of on-ground data against database.
    • Follow proper process with Regulators and Government Authorities and ensure accurate records are maintained for Spectrum usage with CA etc.
    • Evaluate Reliability and cost effectiveness of trials introduced in the network and their ability to keep up with emerging technologies.
    • Managing Capex associated with projects and developing initiatives for Opex savings

    • Reliability of planned design to achieve accurate, timely and economical delivery
    • Liaison with implementation and support teams to ensure rollout follows the design and meets both the business and engineering specifications
    • Definition of network KPIs, SLAs and acceptance procedures for new Systems and management of system Transition to Support teams

    Database management, Documentation, and process improvements:

    • Ensuring (overall ownership) of accurate, up-to date database documentation on Transmission capacity planning, design, and implementation
    • Keeping accurate current infrastructure database for static and dynamic capacities
    • Adhere to the existing processes in workflow management.
    • Scheduled periodical audit function of on-ground data against database
    • Process review and recommendation on process improvement

    Preparation of Transmission projects, POC bid /RFQ documents and Evaluations

    • Learn/research on new technologies/practices in the Transmission domain
    • Evaluate Reliability and cost effectiveness of trials introduced in the network and their ability to keep up with emerging technologies.
    • Running of trials/POCs and subsequent recommendations for approval
    • Development of design principles to guide future deployment

    Leadership and Resource Management

    • Task scheduling and objective settings for self
    • Managing Transmission and IP resources
    • Making Critical planning, design, and optimization decisions
    • Managing Capex associated with projects and developing initiatives for Opex saving

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, or related field.
    • IP Certification e.g., CCNA, CCNP or CCIE
    • Minimum of 6 years’ experience with 2 years specialized role in a busy telecommunications environment–Involved in Strategy Modeling, Planning, Design and Optimization of reliable transmission systems /networks.

    Senior Manager M-pesa Product –Payment Tribe

    M-PESA, the leading Fintech in Africa is on a transformation journey from a Payment wallet to a digital lifestyle platform for Consumers and digital marketplace for Businesses. As part of the transformation we have Launched a consumer and business Superapp in Kenya market with over 4M users already in under 6 months. For this exciting platform we are looking for a senior product Manager to craft and execute the product/Platform strategy for millions of customers on M-PESA Superapp. You will develop and lead an agile team to deliver daily delightful experiences to M-PESA customers.

    The ideal candidate for this role brings extensive experience leading and growing two-sided digital marketplaces and strong track record of shipping products with significant customer impact. In this role you will need to skillfully balance your team between exploring big ideas that deliver outsized results while continuously delivering incremental impact for our customers.

    As a Senior Product Manager for M-PESA Superapp, you'll be closely collaborating with designers, engineers, Quality Assurance and other cross-functional team members to build a lifestyle platform that delights our users daily, using modern best practices.

    The role will report to Tribe Lead – Payment Tribe.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Own the overall product roadmap, and manage prioritization and tradeoffs against customer experience, and time to market for strategic and high visibility initiatives.
    • Craft a compelling long-term vision for M-PESA Superapp that will drive success for our customers and for Safaricom PLC.
    • Constant engagement with customers to understand how we can drive more value for them to be more successful and advocate internally as their voice for the future of our products.
    • Define functional & technical requirements by leveraging industry & user research, data gathering and analysis, hypothesis testing through experimentation and actively seeking out user feedback early in the planning process as well as throughout product lifecycle.
    • Partner with M-PESA Africa Digital agile release train (ART) on joint roadmaps, dependencies, and influence feature backlogs based on product objectives and business needs.
    • Prioritize epics and user stories to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy. Closely evaluate and balance new systems requirements with technical trade-offs and the impact of tech debt.
    • Partner with technology, Customer operations, Corporate security and Channels teams, to continuously improve the customer experience leading to an intuitive, always available, leakage free M-PESA as commitment to our customers.
    • Define goals and expected outcomes of roadmap items, aligning with portfolio objectives and key results (OKRs)
    • Effectively translate business strategies into product strategies, value increments, and product specifications to deliver against our core customer value propositions, and our company strategic and financial goals.
    • Participate in day to day product team activities, driving high quality customer experiences and exploring what is possible with technology.
    • Improve platform architecture to support current and future initiatives.
    • Coaching and mentoring the agile squad - leading to success and meeting goals
    • Apply experience of DevOps best practices to enable highly available, reliable and secure systems and processes. Responsible for the target production uptime of the M-PESA Superapp.
    • Manage portfolio of Miniprograms that support 3rd Party providers launching Miniapps on M-PESA while ensuring value is realized for both Safaricom and Miniprograms partners.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5+ years of experience in product strategy at a consumer tech/ecommerce company and/or strategy consulting with exposure to consumer tech/ecommerce and/or product management.
    • Demonstrated success managing high-availability digital products in social platforms, lifestyle platforms, FinTech or eCommerce.
    • Experience in agile software development methodologies
    • Demonstrated technical acumen; ability to influence and debate solutions with technical team members, to understand technology solutions and potential tradeoffs and to represent technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Data-driven mindset understand complex logic and process of interconnected data flows throughout business work-stream.
    • Strongly collaborative and effective in a cross-functional environment with the ability influence key stakeholders across organizations.
    • Strong product thinking, ability to advocate for the best customer experience and continually make prioritization decisions to focus on the best value for end customers.
    • Ability to translate product needs into technical requirements, understand technology dependencies, and discuss technical trade-offs
