    Project/Programme Intern – Jowhar Offstream Storage Programme (JOSP), Somalia

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the intern will:

    • Provide day-to-day programme and project management support for activities under JOSP, including planning, coordination, and follow-up with partners.
    • Assist in the preparation, review, and monitoring of project workplans
    • Support communications and outreach activities by drafting press releases, newsletters, web stories, and social media content highlighting project milestones.
    • Assist in the preparation of reports, briefing notes, talking points, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
    • Contribute to the organization of meetings, workshops, and field visits, including logistical arrangements and documentation of proceedings.
    • Assist with data collection and analysis to support monitoring and evaluation of project progress, including outcome tracking against indicators.
    • Engage with Somali and international partners on project activities, ensuring alignment with UNEP’s broader Climate, Peace, and Security agenda.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program in International Development, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, Project Management, or related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience.
    • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
    • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

    Youth Officer Consultant

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Scope of Work The consultant's duties will include the following work: New programmes: Budget and programmatic support for programs undertaken by the team including Playing for the Planet, Sports for Nature and Tide Turners, which will have a new Phase 6 set for roll out in January 2026. The individual will need to finalise the funding allocations to partners so that all MoUs / ToRs are in place for the project to begin. 
    • Closing programmes: Ensure all reports, documents and outreach with partners / donors is undertaken to close out programmes as required.
    • Reporting: Ensuring financial and narrative reporting have been collected from partners and delivered to donors on time with clarifications sought and secured so that all needs are met on time and on budget. Contracts: HR and contracts with consultants and partners in place to ensure the effective delivery of the work.
    • Delivery: Work to deliver the Tide Turners Phase 6 of the programme and ensuring that the work undertaken in Africa meets the donor requirements.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • The consultant should have an advanced university degree (Masters’ degree or equivalent) in communications, political science, environmental management or a related field. Eligible candidates will also have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
    • A Bachelor’s university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
    • Project design: A strong track record of designing projects that secure buy-in and generate results. Project management: Able to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively. Communications: Able to bring a diverse group of individuals and partners together to agree a collective programme of work as well as able to write high quality reports and proposals as required.
    • Education & Youth: Experience of working with youth and youth organizations with insight as to how to work with such institutions around the tasks described in the job Innovation: Ability to think creatively about how to evolve pre-existing programmes to have maximum impact.
    • In addition, the contractor should have excellent English language writing skills, be computer literate in standard software applications; be able to work independently; and have good interpersonal skills
