    Research Coordinator

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Review the design, planning and undertake the coordination of research study protocols, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures within AHEEN partners.
    • Prepares research ethics and research authorization applications for research across AHEEN members.
    • Reviews plans, implementation, and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocols; may coordinate the collection and analysis of research data.
    • Develop and implement data-collection instruments in coordination with partners.
    • Collect and analyze data adhering to ethical data management processes for research studies originating at WERK, and review these processes for those originating with other AHEEN members
    • Plans and coordinates the staffing of research studies originating at WERK and reviewing those of other AHEEN members, to include, as the case may be, the recruitment and administration of research support staff, as appropriate to the activity.
    • Recruits, instructs, and coordinates research subjects and/or volunteers, as appropriate to specific study objectives and work scope for research projects originating at WERK
    • Supervises and coordinates the provision of support services to researchers.
    • Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by AHEEN partners, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
    • Prepares reports and presentations in collaboration with network members, for donors and external stakeholders.
    • Implements quality control processes throughout the research processes of the AHEEN RDP Pathways research portfolio.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders
    • Ensure compliance with research protocols in the geographical contexts of AHEEN members in liaison with research organizations, funding agencies and regulatory bodies.
    • Collaborates with the MERL lead to manage the research budget and timelines during the project studies.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure successful project completion.
    • Promotes research capacity strengthening among AHEEN network members.

    Qualification and Competencies

    • Masters in relevant fields, both quantitative and qualitative research experience required.
    • 3-6 years of experience with at least 2 years’ experience managing research projects in low-income or developing countries especially in the Eastern Africa Region.
    • At least 2 years of field experience in low income or humanitarian settings preferred.
    • Demonstrated internal and external communication and coordination capabilities
    • Demonstrated technical expertise in at least some of these areas; study trial management, statistical analysis and data interpretation, electronic data capture systems, participatory research methods and study design for fragile contexts and implementation and research capacity strengthening
    • Experience conducting or supporting primary data collection in challenging environments
    • Data analysis skills, both quantitative and qualitative
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Capacity-Strengthening Officer

    Overall Responsibility:

    The Capacity Strengthening Officer will lead all our work on capacity strengthening from lived experiences in refugee contexts supporting and directing the work of RLOs.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Work with existing AHEEN RLO members to leverage their expertise in order to transfer best practices to other RLOs that will be joining the network
    • Analyze the different RLO contexts in AHEEN RDP Pathways implementation countries with a view to shaping RLO support of the relevant AHEEN member university to optimally implement HEiE and initiatives under the AHEEN RDP Pathways Pillars 1, 2, and 3
    • Develop a general framework for RLO engagement across the AHEEN RDP Pathways program and continually integrate learning from different RLO contexts in AHEEN’s implementation countries (Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and South Africa)
    • Develop a comprehensive capacity strengthening plan based on a gap analysis that informs a short-, medium- and long-term approach to optimal coordination with RLOs within the AHEEN network
    • Develop a community of practice that engages all RLOs in the AHEEN RDP Pathways grant implementation to promote peer-to-peer learning and strengthening of RLOs implementation competencies (programmatic, financial, reporting, etc.)
    • Liaise with UNHCR in all RLO contexts to ensure good collaboration, including policy discussions and representation in humanitarian sector education working groups.

    Qualifications and competencies

    • An advanced degree from a recognized Higher Education institution related to forced migration and fragile contexts
    • Experience implementing programs in forced migration and fragile context
    • Knowledge of the stakeholders working to advance education in forced migration and fragile contexts
    • Significant experience, and preferably lived experience, in refugee contexts and one who has either worked directly with RLOs, been a member of an RLO, or directed the work of RLOs programs
    • Fluent written and oral communication in English and in at least one other African language, preferably Kiswahili

    Secondary School Transition Officer

    Overall Responsibility:
    The Secondary School Transition Officer will be responsible for designing and implementing AHEEN's secondary school transition to Higher Education.
    Specific Responsibilities

    • Work with existing AHEEN RLO members and partners to prioritize project components that enhance transition to higher education including but not limited to teacher professional development, physical emotional and academic well being and support to the learning hubs.
    • Design and implement contextualized strategies (Mentorship & guidance and counseling) in liaison with RLO members and other AHEEN partners for transition particularly for young women.
    • Work with the AHEEN team to identify barriers hindering transition to higher education and implement activities to address them.
    • Work with Secondary School management (refugee and host schools) and Head teachers on student-centered and competency-based learning, positive pedagogy, data management through hybrid workshops and local learning circles
    • Provide leadership and support to mentorship activities targeting secondary school students to transition to higher learning especially women and girls with disabilities, in line with INEE

    Minimum Standards for Education

    • Promote role modeling through matching tertiary learners to secondary learners to provide role model exposure and support give-back by tertiary learners to their communities
    • Organize additional tuition in specific subjects (science, math, writing) through local RLOs who work with refugee and government teachers to align tuition support to learners’ needs. Additional tuition will be offered in small group cohorts and clubs and include introduction to digital learning and strengthening of IT skills. All 1050 learners under the AHEEN RDP Pathways grant will be tested into small group cohorts and clubs that meet their specific needs.
    • Collaborate with the RLOs and coordinate secondary school support with those managing the AHEEN’s Athletics+Education program and transition activities.
    • Review the design of mentorship activities designed by RLOs through AHEEN’s SEL programs (tertiary-2-secondary support)

    Qualifications and competencies

    • A degree from a recognized Higher Education institution related to education, forced migration and fragile contexts, a degree related to Education in Emergencies and/or Higher Education in Emergencies is preferred
    • Experience implementing programs in forced migration and fragile contexts promoting higher education aligned with INEE Minimum Standards for Education
    • Knowledge of the stakeholders working to advance education in forced migration and fragile contexts
    • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods required to analyze the contextual barriers for transition.
    • Fluent written and oral communication in English and in at least one other African language,

    preferably Kiswahili

    Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Lead

    General Responsibilities

    • Participate in WERK processes;
    • Undertake the activities above in line with the associated budgets and with program work plans, in ways that are consistent with WERK policies;
    • Prepare and submit quality and timely plans, budgets and reports;
    • Keep up to date with best practice in Knowledge Management and Monitoring and Evaluation in
    • East Africa and internationally.
    • Participate in meetings and sessions as needed;

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biostatistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Population Studies, Demography, Information technology or any relevant scientific discipline from a recognized institution. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in implementing monitoring Evaluation, Research and learning activities.
    • Experience in implementing Refugee and Displaced Persons(RDP) and Gender Programs is a plus.
    • Experience on outcome harvesting and Research methods, including Collaborative learning and
    • Adaptation (CLA) is an added advantage.
    • Experience in youth programming and reporting through IATI is an added advantage.
    • Experience in using DHIS2, digital data collection applications, data management and analysis skills.
    • Organized with excellent attention to detail
