    Human Resources Specialist

    Job Summary

    The successful candidate will coordinate all HR related matters. He/she will work closely with the respective HR Manager(s) to ensure that effective HR functional support is provided.   

    Responsibilities

    • Work closely with the Manager to plan and execute quality recruitment assignments in accordance to the position requirements to deliver quality candidates;
    • Contribute towards building talent pipelines to fill current and future roles and maintain a database of candidate records, including active and passive prospects for future use;
    • Coordinate the planning and execution of end-to-end selection processes including meeting with hiring teams to understand recruitment needs, advertising, longlisting, interviewing, and negotiating offers with selected candidates;
    • Coordinate with the various onboarding departments to ensure a smooth onboarding process for new employees;
    • Input all new employee information in PeopleSoft software in a timely and accurate manner;
    • Ensure all new employees have a fully signed JD and nametag before handing them over to their departments;
    • Assist with development and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with strategic goals of the organization;
    • Address employee grievances and resolve disciplinary cases in accordance to existing labor laws and AKU Policies;
    • Facilitate timely leave management and leave reports;
    • Facilitate timely staff confirmations and timely addition to medical cover and other support with medical benefits as may be required;
    • Work with stakeholders to close identified training gaps by coordinating with the L&D team to organize both internal and external training;
    • Prepare and submit various periodic reports e.g leave, medical utilization, recruitment, employee relations;
    • Participate in compliance related projects such as audits and accreditations; and
    • Ensure all employee records are well maintained, current and valid at all times.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field;
    • Post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management;
    • 3 - 5 years’ Generalist experience in HR in a busy environment;
    • Proficiency in the use of HRIS such as Peoplesoft will be a distinct advantage.
    • Experience working with an Applicant Tracking System such as Taleo will also be an added advantage;
    • Knowledge of Kenya Labor Laws;
    • Ability to work in multicultural environment;
    • Good problem solving skills;

    Administrative Assistant, Center for Innovation in Medical Education (Cime)

    Job Summary/Purpose

    To serve as the frontline representative of the Centre, managing reception duties while also contributing to technical, educational, and administrative tasks as required in-order to allow the center carry out its mission of facilitating high quality learning through innovation in medical education.

    Nurse Supervisor, OR Recovery

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement unit goals and objectives in collaboration with Theatre Manager and the Director, Surgical Services
    • Collaborate with the Unit leaders in development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, protocols clinical pathways, and care guidelines
    • Review and reassign staff based on skill mix and complexity of the booked cases
    • Function as the main point of contact for the Surgical team including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other nursing staff
    • Provide effective supervision of the nursing staff and utilize learning opportunities for development
    • Work closely with the Clinical Practice Educator to monitor nurses clinical knowledge, skills and competencies
    • Participate in developing action plans to ensure individual staff growth In the development

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience in Operating Room of an acute care hospital
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate expert knowledge in Theatre procedures

    Operating Theatre & Recovery Nurse- Temporary

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensures complete pre-op assessment including the surgical checklist, nursing documentation and Physician's assessment
    • Receives the patient prior to surgery, gets report from the accompanying nurse and performs pre-op checklist.
    • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
    • Familiar with procedures in operating room and PACU routines and area specific assignments.
    • Circulate and assist as needed for surgical procedures
    • Scrub for surgical procedures in the operating room independently.
    • Prepare operating room for patient/procedure
    • Ensure effective recovery of patients post any form of anesthesia.
    • Assists with intubation and extubation of patient in the recovery room (RR) and in the operating room (OR).
    • Communicates with anesthetists and primary teams regarding patient issues and shifting plans.
    • Facilitates safe transfer of patient to alternate level of care as appropriate.
    • Promptly reports both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the nurse manager or designee
    • Identify patient and family learning needs and initiate appropriate teaching.
    • Ensures safety checks are performed to ensure correct patient and correct procedure is performed
    • Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as required
    • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms

    • Ensure all specimens are properly labeled and delivered to the lab in a timely manner
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
    • Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and initiate Basic Life Support
    • Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga Khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management
    • Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and promptly report adverse reactions.
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of equipment and consumables     .
    • Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting_and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse m nager or designee
    • Assist in orientation of new nurses and mentoring of junior nursing staff and students
    • Occasionally shift leads under supervision of senior RN
    • Participates in unit based continuing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks.
    • Can be assigned to assist in medical surgical unit

    Skills and qualifications

    • In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures
    • Highly skilled at assessing patients prior to surgery and providing them with perioperative care
    • Extensive knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques
    • Ability to collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals
    • Solid understanding of patient health and safety standards
    • Excellent organizational skills

    Requirements:

    • RN from a recognized school of nursing or university
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Theatre Nursing is an added advantage

    Surgical Technician, OR Recovery- Temporary

    Responsibilities:

    • Gather, check and open supplies & equipment needed for the surgical procedure
    • Set up the sterile back table and mayo stand with instruments supplies and medications / solutions needed for the procedure
    • Perform initial surgical count with the circulating nurse
    • Assist the scrubbed team members with gowning and gloving
    • Assist with draping the patient to establish a sterile field
    • Secure sterile cords, tubing’s and other accessories
    • Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure
    • Prepare and anticipate additional instrumentation and supplies for usage during the procedure
    • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure
    • Measure and pass medications, haemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the procedure
    • Hold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon
    • Coordinate the camera or endoscopic instruments as directed by the surgeon
    • Perform additional surgical counts (cavity closure, skin closure) or as necessary
    • Prepares sterile dressing(s) and or immobilization device(s)
    • Prepare and pass off specimen(s) as appropriate
    • Participate in debriefing Process quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care
    • Hand over after verification the instruments to the CSSD technician for sterilization

    Requirements:

    • Surgical technician course from a recognized institution
    • Proficiency in computer Literacy
    • Experience in theatre -Preferred

    Anaesthetic Assistant, Locum

    Responsibilities:

    • Setup, test and calibrate physiological monitors and equipment such as anesthesia machines, airway devices, physiological monitors, infusion devices, nerve stimulators, patient/fluid warming devices and fiber optic bronchoscopes.
    • Perform equipment checks as indicated and maintain records of problems
    • Replace and change anesthetic equipment supplies as per routine schedule
    • Maintain a stock of drug supplies at anesthesia workstations.
    • Troubleshoot anesthetic equipment
    • Correct problems that have been discovered and follow up with the theatre manager, the biomedical technician/engineers, and manufacturer’s service representative.
    • Participate in operating theatre’s infection control program.
    • Performing duties such as maintaining cleanliness of anesthetic equipment in accordance with quality assurance programs.
    • Assist with the setting up of the physiological monitors such as ECG, Pulse oximetry and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP).
    • Assist the anesthesiologist with the insertion of peripheral venous lines, arterial lines, central venous catheters and pulmonary artery catheters.
    • Adjust therapies (e.g. Ventilation, temperature control devices, fluid flow rates etc.) as directed by the anesthesiologist.
    • In liaison with the circulating nurse, provide diagnostic data for the anesthesiologist by performing random blood sugar sampling and arterial blood gas sampling as requested.
    • Arrange for transportation of emergency blood samples to the lab and collection of blood products from the blood bank.
    • Assist at anesthetic emergency by performing duties such as aspirating secretions from the trachea and pharynx, deflating airways cuffs, and provide emergency airway equipment. Remove monitoring equipment after surgery.
    • Assist with the transfer of post operative patients to the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) under the direction of the anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurse.
    • Assist with the transfer of ventilation and/or anesthetized patient to the intensive care or high dependency unit under the direction of the anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurse.

    Requirements:

    • Completion of Anesthesia Assistant Course
    • In service Course on Basic Nursing skills and Anesthesia
    • Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Theatre is preferred
