    Senior Test Automation Engineer

    Your Role

    As KOKO grows within and outside Kenya, our team is looking for a high performing and versatile test automation engineer to lead development of our automation frameworks, and be accountable for their successful uptake across the testing team.

    In this position on the test engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to set the future direction of our test automation strategies. KOKO’s suite of products spans multiple technical domains and disciplines in software and hardware, and so experience in end-to-end systems thinking across distributed components is key for this role.

    What you will do

    KOKO’s technology stack currently includes (but is not limited to):

    Core Technology: AWS, Python, Flask, Vue.js, Postgres, Kotlin, Java, Firebase, C++, Celery, Message Queues, Odoo ERP, Docker, Jenkins, CircleCI, Git

    Test Engineering: Maven, Selenium, TestNG, Cucumber, Postman,Newman, JMeter

    • Build automation tools and test automation frameworks from scratch
    • Work closely with software engineers to understand KOKO’s systems and applications specifications before designing and developing comprehensive test automation suites with thought through scenarios and test data.
    • Design and develop test automation frameworks for both Web UI and mobile.
    • Work with the team to identify opportunities for automated test execution and drive adoption of automated testing and tools through the product/project lifecycle.
    • With hands-on scripting abilities, build scripts for automating repeated manual processes that may be part of software development lifecycle.
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and proactively assess and evaluate their adoption at KOKO
    • Conduct POCs for technology and tools evaluation to ensure they are a good fit for KOKO’s requirements.
    • Support agile activities: sprint planning, stand ups, sprint review and sprint retrospectives.
    • Work with limited direction, within a complex environment, to drive delivery of solutions and meet service levels
    • With active engagement, collaboration, effective communication, quality, integrity and reliable delivery, develop and maintain a trusted and valued relationship with the team and technology partners.

    What You Will Bring to KOKO

    • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience in automation development, application analysis/design, development, testing and business system analysis.
    • Hands on experience with Java/Python, JavaScript, Appium or equivalent, JSON and XML.
    • Hands on experience in building test automation with tools such as Selenium, Test NG, Cucumber, Postman etc.
    • Experience working with one of the modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue, Angular, Node JS or React is a plus.
    • Experience in configuring CI/CD pipeline using industry standard tools such as GIT, Jenkins, Maven etc.
    • Experience working with PostgreSQL is a plus.
    • Experience working with Performance and load testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling or equivalent is a plus.
    • Strong interest in new automation technology and trends with the ability to relate concepts to practical application
    • Expertise with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and project/requirements management tools like JIRA, Zephyr.
    • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise way.
    • Able to proficiently multi-task and deliver within a fast-paced agile delivery model.
    • Strong teamwork focus and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams

    Senior Data Engineer

    As one of our first data engineers, you’ll work with our Business, Analytics, Product and other Engineering teams to enable them to do more with KOKO’s data, and faster.  You’ll formulate a strategy for our data processing and data stores, and own implementation and maintenance of these designs, ensuring continued high performance and availability.

    KOKO’s suite of products spans multiple technical domains and disciplines in software and hardware, and so experience in end-to-end systems thinking across distributed components is key for this role. IoT and real time data processing feature heavily in our technology suite.

    What you will do

    • Design, implement and support KOKO’s data infrastructure
    • Design and implement ETL pipelines, selecting the most appropriate tools and products in collaboration with KOKO’s analytics, product and engineering teams
    • Build logical and understandable data models and data stores to house data from KOKO’s various live products and other diverse data sources for consumption by other teams
    • Build systems to track data quality and consistency, ensuring that our data is accurate & up to date
    • Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service use of KOKO’s data (create tools that assist teams in this process).
    • Keep our data secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions
    • As the team grows, help recruit and manage additional data engineers
    • Represent the Data Engineering discipline during sprint planning meetings and retrospectives
    • Help build the engineering culture at KOKO, attracting similar minded people with a passion for using technology to tackle hard challenges

    What You Will Bring to KOKO

    • At least three years experience in software development, data engineering, business intelligence, data science, or a related field
    • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
    • A track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
    • Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development and optimisation, and data warehousing
    • Experience working with big data technologies (preferably within AWS)
    • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
    • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
    • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
    • Strong initiative, project management and organizational skills
    • Strong communicator, both written and verbal, who is calm and decisive under pressure
    • Proactive approach to knowledge sharing and developing best practices
    • Strong experience taking part in sprints, being involved in planning, retrospectives and estimations with cross-functional teams

    Python and Odoo Engineer

    Your Role

    As KOKO grows within and outside Kenya, our team is looking for experienced Python and Odoo engineers to lead development of our cloud based software products, and be responsible for major technical decisions associated with them accountable for their successful execution.

    In this position on the software engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to many customer and internal facing products. KOKO’s suite of products spans multiple technical domains and disciplines in software and hardware, and so experience in end-to-end systems thinking across distributed components is key for this role.

    What you will do

    • Familiarity with Cloud/ SaaS architectures and how to build secure and maintainable services
    • Strong understanding of unit testing, design patterns and usage of tools like profilers
    • Experience with source control and continuous integration tools (We use GIT and Jenkins)

    Principal Software Engineer

    Your Role

    As KOKO grows within and outside Kenya, our team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to own the short and long term technical vision of our core software platform, be responsible for major technical decisions associated with it and accountable for their successful execution.  As such you will play a key role in enabling KOKO’s long term success, including our expansion beyond Nairobi and Kenya. This is a very visible leadership position in which you should be able to influence the decisions of your team without having to make all of them.

    We are looking for a highly technical leader with significant experience in scaling and maintaining complex, mission critical systems, and making key architectural decisions along the way.  You should be comfortable leading and coaching in a remote environment, building rapport across the team, doing what’s necessary to ensure KOKO’s products always deliver.

    • Strong track record leading, developing, and delivering significant software projects with 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
    • Significant experience in the following areas with deep expertise in a few: enterprise application and service based architectures, software design patterns, messaging protocols, cyber security, distributed application development, modern front-end design, highly scalable data architectures
    • Significant experience in making architectural decisions that allow multiple teams to deliver independently 
    • Well developed skills in designing for testability, reliability, security and maintainability.
    • Evangelist for Agile practices, able to work with product leaders to support engineering team members in delivering in an agile manner to deliver on key goals.
    • Strong communicator, both written and verbal, who is calm and decisive under pressure.
    • Empathy for your colleagues, encouraging team members to think creatively while knowing where to intervene to tackle tough problems and navigate conflicts.
