    Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS)

    Position Summary:

    • The Dean, SASS plans and develops the instructional objectives for the school of arts and social sciences. He/ She leads department heads, programme leaders and faculty in the development, implementation and evaluation of new and  existing curricula; reviews supporting facilities and equipment’s required for conducive learning environment in the school. Spearheads the School budgeting, implementation of the University strategic plan and appraisal of human and non-human resources of the school.

    Primary Duties and responsibilities:

    • Oversee academic departments under the School of Arts and Social Sciences; IST, ISC, IYS, CLM.
    • Plans and develops the instructional objectives for the school.
    • Evaluates full and part time faculty performance, engages in classroom observations and prepares summative reports.
    • Provide academic and administrative leadership for the undergraduate and graduate programs within the school and participate in the development of university-wide policies and university initiatives.
    • Supporting the University’s commitment to diversity and fostering, academic, and non-academic activities to increase the school's visibility within the community.
    • Prepares, tracks, monitors and adheres to an annual budget; does cost projections for all activities, programs and courses and approves work orders and purchase requisitions.
    • Enhancing the School and University’s profile, resource streams, and engagement with alumni and the community.
    • Measures and tracks school annual performance against objectives; prepares and submits annual assessment report to the designated office; and fully engages with the University’s Assessment Program.
    • Provides the vision and leadership for creating an interdisciplinary environment by building on the faculty strengths within the departments.
    • Fostering academic planning and innovative curricular and scholarly development.
    • Supervises supplies and equipment used to support instructional programs; oversees course scheduling and facilities use.
    • Supports faculty in research and publication through collaboration and partnership with like-minded institutions locally and globally.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • An Earned Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Social Sciences, Business or Management.
    • Minimum of 7 years of higher education experience including 2 years of administrative experience as a department head chair or higher, plus 3 years of university teaching, complemented by research and scholarly record (Minimum 5 articles in peer reviewed journals).
    • Demonstrate understanding of the University mission, vision and Core Values.
    • Demonstrated success in obtaining grants or other projects relevant to the development of academic programmes.
    • Experience with budget management, faculty and staff development and promoting university and community relations.
    • Exhibits strong skills in Leadership, Managing People, Communication, Customer and Student Focus, Building Relationships, Organizing and planning, Student recruitment initiatives.

    Postgraduate Programme Leader – Ma, Counselling Psychology

    Position Summary:

    • The position holder shall be under the direct supervision of the Director. The Postgraduate - Programme Leader (PL) shall be required to provide leadership to all the faculty members involved in the programme and ensure quality delivery of the programme. Further, the PL will be responsible for the academic experience of the students enrolled in the programme, marketing of the programme and the organizational aspects of the programme that support this experience.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate and provide Leadership for the MA in Counselling Psychology programme.
    • Following up the implementation of the academic policies of the programme – including the thesis policy, research and publication by students and faculty;
    • Being accountable to the Director of IYS for matters concerning logistics and community outreach, as well as to the Director/Chair of the Postgraduate Programmes at Tangaza regarding the academic quality of the programmes;
    • Following up the graduation requirements of students that include completion of course work, personal therapy, practicum, thesis proposal and final thesis;
    • Organize and coordinate meetings with lecturers involved in the MA programme;
    • Organize the classes and ensure that the students are attending class and lecturers are in class;
    • Make available to the lecturers an updated record of the students list;
    • Be present in the office and attend to the students;
    • Maintains appropriate course records and documentation and acts upon recommendations for course improvement as part of the quality system;
    •  Ensure that the students’ grades are in order;
    • Teach courses in his/her area of specialization.

    Qualifications and experience:

    • PhD in Counselling Psychology (or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
    • At least 2 degrees should be aligned with counseling psychology PhD + MA or PhD + BA. The remaining degree could be related to this line of qualifications.
    • Minimum of 3 years of higher education experience, minimum of 3 peer refereed journals articles in the last three years after PhD graduation.
    • Experience with budget management, faculty and staff development and promoting University and community relations.

    Knowledge skills and abilities:

    • Demonstrated understanding of the University’s Mission, Vision and Core Values
    • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students and the broader educational and professional communities
    • A record of academic achievement in the discipline meriting appointment
    • Good communication and organizational skills.
