    Adaptation Monitoring And Review, Knowledge Management And Technical Advisor

    Responsibilities

    • Work with relevant productive and development sectors towards the effective mainstreaming of climate adaptation metrics, agreed indicators and targets performance frameworks.
    • Facilitate the mainstreaming of outcome-level performance indicators developed above into sectoral monitoring frameworks and the performance framework used by MINECOFIN, by proposing revisions and/or additions to existing outcome-level indicators so that the assessment of efficiency and effectiveness of climate expenditures is facilitated.

    Project technical advice

    • Undertake technical review and provide quality assurance of project outputs (e.g., technical reports, studies and assessments).
    • Support in the preparation of the annual Project Implementation Reports (PIRs) and Half-Yearly Progress Reports (HYPRs).
    • Undertake regular visits to the field to support implementation of M&E and to identify where adaptations might be needed.
    • Provide overall technical backstopping support for the project.
    • Provide advice on best suitable approaches and methodologies for the timely achievement of project targets and objectives.
    • Support knowledge management, communications and awareness raising activities, and documentation of lessons from project implementation.
    • Assist the PM in planning the implementation of project activities, and in adjusting the project Results Framework, Work Plan and Budget as required and in line with corporate requirements.
    • Assist in strengthening the technical quality of project M&E systems (including AWPs, indicators and targets).
    • Where requested, advise the PM in liaison work with project partners, donor organizations, NGOs and other groups to ensure the effective coordination of project activities.
    • Support the generation of reports to the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and provide professional inputs to management reports, including relevant sections of the annual PIR reports to the donor.
    • Provide advice to the Project Steering Committee and the UNEP Task Manager, as needed. The consultant will report to the CCAU Chief of Unit

    Qualifications/special skills

    • At least a Master's degree in climate change; environmental science, planning or management; disaster risk management; natural resources management; knowledge management; or project management is required.
    • A first level university degree (bachelor or equivalent) with two (2) additional years of professional experience will be accepted in lieu of a Master's degree A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a senior technical position for planning and management of climate change; environmental; and/or natural resources management programs in developing countries is required.
    • Solid technical knowledge of climate change adaptation planning; monitoring and evaluation;
    • knowledge management; ecosystem-based adaptation approaches; and climate risk management is required.
    • Previous similar experience in provision of technical support to complex internationally funded multilateral projects is required.
    • Experience of GEF and/or GCF projects is desirable Previous work experience in providing technical support to governments in Rwanda or East Africa is desirable.

    Trainer: Leading with Balance, Attaining Work-Life Balance and the Power of Cross-Cultural Working in Times of Uncertainty

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conduct pre-learning needs assessment and produce an analytical report to inform the design and development of learning resources and activities.
    • Design and develop diverse learning resources, including presentations, learning guides, case studies and practical exercises or projects, ensuring alignment with identified learning needs and objectives covering the identified topics.
    • Facilitate and deliver engaging learning sessions, employing appropriate adult learning methodologies to support effective knowledge transfer and skills development mainly through virtual sessions .
    • Administer post-learning assessment and prepare a a comprehensive report summarizing participants feedback, learning outcomes achieved, key observations reflecting the impression of the learners and lessons learned.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Learning and Development, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, or a related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree combined with additional 2 years relevant experience may be accepted in leu of the advanced degree.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in learning design, facilitation, coaching, and organisational development is required.
    • Experience working with UN or international organisations in change management or HR development contexts is desirable.
    • Strong facilitation skills and the ability to engage and motivate participants is desirable.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is desirable.
    • Experience in Leading with Balance: Attaining Work-Life Balance and Harnessing the Power of Cross-Cultural Working in Times of Uncertainty is desirable.

    Editor and Writer

    Specific objectives include:

    • Strengthen the quality, consistency, visibility and dissemination of UNEP freshwater-related communication, knowledge and advocacy products across global policy and stakeholder engagement processes.
    • Support the drafting, editing, proofreading and publication of strategic reports, guidance documents, technical papers, consultation summaries and communication materials related to freshwater governance, climate adaptation, ecosystem restoration and integrated water resources management.
    • Enhance communication and outreach support for major international events, policy fora and stakeholder engagement processes, including COPs, UNEA-related activities, UN-Water meetings, Baku Dialogue events, regional consultations and global water-related conferences.
    • Support the development and dissemination of accessible and inclusive communication products and outreach materials that promote stakeholder engagement, policy uptake and visibility of project outcomes, including materials reflecting gender-responsive, Indigenous and local knowledge approaches.
    • Strengthen UNEP’s digital communication and knowledge-sharing platforms through updated web content, multimedia communication products, internal coordination materials and strategic outreach assets.
    • All deliverables shall be submitted electronically in editable Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel formats, as appropriate, together with final PDF versions where required. Communication assets and multimedia materials shall be submitted in formats suitable for web publication and dissemination through UNEP communication channels.

    Performance indicators:

    • Timely delivery of high-quality communication, editorial and outreach products in accordance with agreed workplans and deadlines.
    • Effective communication support provided for strategic freshwater-related events, consultations, publications and global engagement processes.
    • Improved quality, consistency and visibility of freshwater-related communication materials and online content.
    • Increased dissemination and stakeholder engagement across project-related communication channels and outreach activities.
    • Communication outputs effectively support policy engagement, advocacy objectives and dissemination of technical and strategic project outcomes.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in language or communication-related studies along with four years of experience is required. Alternatively, the years of experience is reduced by two for candidates who posses an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in language or communication and related studies.
    • At least 4 years of experience in environment related communication and outreach is required;
    • Experience in writing and editing is required;
    • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams, including local and expatriate technical experts is required;
    • Strong knowledge of website development and promotion. Ability to plan, organize, implement and report on work.
    • Openness to change and ability to integrate feedback. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
