    Triage Nurses

    The Nurse is directly responsible to the MCH in charge and will carry out the following duties:

    Assessment, planning, coordination and implementation of patient care

    • Assess patients and plan for their care as appropriate
    • Guide and organize Auxiliary Nurses in the department to meet patient care needs
    • Make orders of drugs and other supplies as necessary
    • Ensure patients access specialized procedures as prescribed by clinicians/doctors/other team members
    • Write report on patients during shift change
    • Attend and facilitate Continuous Medical Education and clinical audits

    Organization of services

    • Guide and supervise support staff on departmental cleanliness in absence of the In-charge
    • Arrange and submit weekly/monthly unit work schedule, plan daily duties and responsibilities for support staff and leave plans to ensure adequate coverage in consultation with the facility/departmental in charge

    Essential supplies and equipment

    Keep inventory of drugs and equipment in the department.

    Service delivery (Quality nursing services)

    • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
    • Provide quality triage services documenting vital signs, identify and initiate emergency care in collaboration with the clinicians
    • Document clearly patient vital signs in the patient cards, books and ensure growth monitoring charts are fully filled.
    • Counsel and educate patients on identified psychosocial-economic needs
    • Adhere to the hospital health and safety policies, guidelines/protocols (e.g. the use of personal protective clothing/equipment
    • Provide standard care to patients at the triage, emergency and outpatient units
    • Identify and manage obstetric emergencies and newborn related emergencies appropriately
    • Manage post-natal mothers and their babies to prevent complications
    • Provide growth monitoring services including updating the MCH booklet as per guidelines.
    • Manage minor childhood illnesses using national policies and guidelines
    • Provide health promotion services in the department
    • Provide emergency services in  including referral of patients to other level of care

    Monitoring and Evaluation

    • In the Absence of EMR, ensure CWC register Is clearly filled and support in generation of monthly report
    • Write reports on services in the department as necessary through Compiling and submitting weekly/monthly HIS reports.

    Key Result Areas

    Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of nursing care services and other related activities within the allocated ward/unit.

    Required Qualifications

    • Certificate or Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery/Community Health Nursing from a recognized medical training college with a minimum of 1 year in clinical practice in a busy Hospital.
    • Registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
    • Possess a valid practice license.
    • Basic skills in computer applications.

    Advocacy, Policy and Communication Specialist

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Advocacy Strategy: In close alignment with global Advocacy and Influence team, lead advocacy strategy and messaging development and implementation for regional and country-level policy goals, developing global advocacy messaging, identifying, building and monitoring influential regional stakeholders, processes and relationships and supporting the influence efforts of Country Programs through field visits and/or virtual meetings where relevant. Facilitate the implementation of regional, country-specific and global advocacy strategies, including developing plans to reach relevant audiences and advocacy targets, including power mapping and tactical planning.
    • Develop an enabling environment for priority programme interventions Support IRC’s efforts to scale the most impactful programmatic interventions by crafting strategies to overcome political and policy barriers to their deployment nationally, regionally and globally.
    • Policy Engagement and Agenda-Setting: Develop regional and country-specific policy agendas, in collaboration with internal and external experts, that advance IRC global policy priorities, respond to identified challenges in the humanitarian/development sectors and are aligned with S100 and one another. Develop analysis and position papers to inform advocacy work for the region and globally where relevant.
    • Communications Strategy: Oversee the development and maintenance of the IRC regional communications strategy, in line with IRC’s brand and principles of the humanitarian community, by the Regional Communications Coordinator.
    • Publications: Oversee production of polished and accessible external reports to inform key audiences about project activities and the needs of displaced people in the region and to influence policy decisions. Contribute to press releases and lead sign-off of relevant regional products, ensuring the accuracy and quality of information before dissemination.
    • Internal Collaboration: Facilitate mechanisms to ensure sharing of information and analysis, and alignment of policy/advocacy messaging and positioning across country programs, the regional office and global headquarters. Serve as the primary point of contact for influence in the region. Ensure that information about the IRC’s response activities in the region are disseminated to regional and HQ staff as appropriate.
    • External engagement: Engage in regional and national dialogues with key policymakers and stakeholders to pursue country, regional and global advocacy priorities. Maintain active working relationships with external national, regional and global stakeholders including other INGOs, UN Agencies, think tanks, analysts and community-based organizations.
    • Spokesperson: Act as an IRC spokesperson, providing briefings on the situation in the sub-regional contexts to key internal and external stakeholders, including policymakers, government officials, journalists, and donors. Engage with international and regional media to pitch stories about IRC’s response, advocacy priorities and partnerships, resulting in high-quality, top-tier coverage.

    Key Working Relationships

    • Position reports to: Deputy Regional Director
    • Position indirectly reports to:   Policy and advocacy team.
    • Position supervisors: Regional Communications Coordinator and technically supports the country-based advocacy colleagues
    • Key internal relationships: RVP, Country Directors and Deputy Director Programs, Global Advocacy, Policy and Communications colleagues, and relevant subject matter experts including Regional Technical Leads, Safety, Security and Humanitarian access colleagues etc.
    • Key external relationships: Regional and national advocacy fora, international and national NGOs, UN agencies, FONGA (INGO regional coordination body).

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Degree in Law, Government, Political Science, International Relations, Strategic Studies, or related discipline.
    • Fluency in French & English is essential both oral and written.

    Work experience:

    • 6-8 years of experience working on humanitarian, development and/or foreign policy issues. At least two years of experience living and working overseas, preferably in West Africa.
    • Demonstrated experience in advocacy and communications efforts in relevant contexts with a focus on creativity and strategic thinking.

    Nurse - CWC (Child Welfare Clinic)

    Key Responsibilities

    Maternal Health.

    • Assist with normal deliveries and conduct emergency deliveries for clients presenting in second stage at the clinic.
    • Provide post-natal care, including counseling on breastfeeding, family planning, and newborn care.
    • Provide Maternal EPI services (Tetanus injections) as per schedule.
    • Offer family planning counseling and services, including long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs).
    • Provide post-abortion care and cervical cancer screening and treatment services.

    Neonatal Health.

    • Monitor newborn health and identify any potential complications.
    • Monitor breastfeeding and offer guidance on other nutrition options.
    • Provide linkage with Nutrition for vulnerable Neonates as per assessment.
    • Administer essential neonatal interventions, such as treatment of common ailments and vaccinations.

    Child Health.

    • Provide immunization services according to the Expanded Program of immunization (EPI) schedule.
    • Manage common childhood illnesses, such as diarrhea, pneumonia, and malaria.
    • Conduct growth monitoring and promote optimal child development through child welfare clinic (CWC).
    • Provide nutritional counseling and support.

    Record Keeping.

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
    • Submit timely reports on maternal, newborn, and child health indicators.

    Training and Supervision.

    • Participate in training and capacity-building activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Supervise and mentor junior staff.
    • Participate in Facility Clinical audits
    • Attend an participate in Facility CMES

    Community Outreach.

    • Conduct in-facility health education sessions on maternal, newborn, and child health topics.
    • Participate in community outreach activities to promote health-seeking behaviors on needs basis.
    • Together with the nurses and clinicians, organize for adequate clinic coverage when required.
    • Carry out any other additional duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Key Result Areas.

    • Reduced maternal and neonatal mortality rates
    • Increased uptake of antenatal and postnatal care services
    • Increased uptake of EPI services
    • Reduction of malnutrition through monitoring of children at the child welfare clinic
    • Improved family planning utilization rates

    Required Qualifications Experience & Competencies.

    • KRCHN, KRN/KRM.
    • Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
    • At least 1 years of experience in a busy maternal child health department/clinic.
    • Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care / Respectful maternal newborn competency trainings highly desirable.
    • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of maternal and child health
    • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Cost Research Advisor

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct research
    • In collaboration with IRC colleagues, refine the learning agenda and research questions for one or more focus areas or interventions (e.g., Safe at Home).
    • Conduct cost-efficiency analyses, cost-effectiveness analyses, and scenario modeling (see Cost Analysis Report Library).
    • Develop, maintain, and update program-specific data sets (see Cost Analysis Data Sets).
    • Synthesize internal and external cost evidence to make broader quantitative and qualitative assessments of a program area’s cost-effectiveness, parameters under which a program area might be cost-effective, etc. (e.g.).
    • Provide technical assistance
    • Develop organizational learnings and recommendations for - specific outcome areas or interventions.
    • Provide ongoing technical assistance to IRC colleagues and partner organizations to help inform decisions with cost evidence.
    • Support proposal development to increase the cost-effectiveness of proposals and program designs.
    • Re-package evidence into accessible user-friendly tools to increase their usability (e.g.).
    • Collaborate with advocacy and policy colleagues to translate research findings into accessible and persuasive external collateral (e.g.).
    • Cross-cutting responsibilities
    • Contribute to reporting, including writing, delivering presentations, and supporting communications staff

    Job Requirements

    Work experience

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics, statistics, public policy, or related field.
    • Minimum of:
    • 3+ years of experience (bachelor’s degree) or 
    • 2+ years of experience (Master’s degree) in the humanitarian or development sector.
