Job Summary
The Lab Technician will support the research project by performing routine diagnostic tests, processing and analyzing samples, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory results.
Responsibilities
- Collect biological samples (e.g., blood, urine) from study participants.
- Process and prepare samples for analysis, including centrifugation and preservation.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation of samples to maintain their integrity
- Conduct routine diagnostic tests such as urinalysis, full hemogram, VDRL STI testing (Gene expert), and other relevant assays.
- Perform initial laboratory analysis and report findings to the research team
- Record and maintain accurate laboratory records and logs.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of laboratory data.
- Record laboratory results into electronic data capture systems and maintain accurate records
- Work closely with the research team to coordinate sample collection, storage and transfers.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety and biosafety protocols.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in laboratory technology and diagnostics
- Ensure proper storage of study documents/ samples.
- Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and submit timely reports on data collection activities.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Valid laboratory technologist license in Kenya.
Relevant Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and diagnostic procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience using tablet-based software for collecting data (e.g Redcap, ODK)
- Familiarity with research ethics.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Should be fluent in English/Swahili and the community local languages
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Summary
The Research Assistant (Nurse) will support the implementation of the study activities for a pregnancy-birth cohort in Isiolo County, Kenya. He/She will be responsible for recruitment and follow-up of pregnant mothers, conducting antenatal care assessments, contributing to data collection activities, provision of maternity delivery services, supporting postnatal care services, collection of biological samples, supporting community engagement activities, contributing to data management and ensuring the overall quality of research activities. The incumbent will work closely with the research team, local healthcare providers, and community members to facilitate the smooth operation of the study.
Responsibilities
- Familiarize themselves with study protocols, SOPs, data collection tools, and informed consent procedures.
- Conduct maternal, newborn, and child health assessments, including ANC assessments, clinical evaluations, and monitoring of vital signs, growth parameters, and developmental milestones in accordance with the study protocol.
- Support normal deliveries in the maternity ward and work collaboratively with maternity staff to ensure smooth clinical and study operations.
- Collect, process, accurately record, and ensure proper storage of study data, biological samples (including cord blood and placental tissue), and study documents in line with SOPs.
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of adverse events, including maintaining complete raw data and records.
- Participate in and support community engagement activities, maintaining respectful, culturally sensitive communication to promote trust, retention, and adherence to study procedures.
- Provide regular updates on progress and challenges and submit timely reports on data collection and study activities.
- Comply with all ethical and regulatory requirements, including confidentiality, informed consent, and data handling guidelines.
Requirements
- A Degree/Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution
- Have a valid practice license with the Nursing Council of Kenya
Relevant Experience
- At least 2 years’ Maternal, newborn and child health work experience.
- Demonstrated competence in midwifery practice
- Experience in using computer or tablet-based applications for data collection (e.g Redcap)
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Willing to work in remote areas within Isiolo county.
- Previous experience in research, data collection, and participant recruitment in a pregnancy/birth cohort is desirable.
- Training in good clinical practice and research ethics is an added advantage.
- Should be fluent in English and Swahili. Speaking Borana is an added advantage.
- Experience in biological sample collection and handling (cord blood/placenta preferred) is an added advantage.

The Department of Population Health (DPH) at the Aga Khan University (AKU), Medical College East Africa, is a multidisciplinary academic and research unit engaged in teaching, research, policy engagement, and community service across Kenya and the wider region. In support of this mandate, AKU seeks to appoint an Administration Manager to provide high-quality administrative, operational, and compliance leadership to the Department.
The Administration Manager will work closely with the Chair of Department and faculty to support the strategic and operational direction of the Department. The role provides oversight of administrative systems, planning and budgeting processes, donor-funded research support, and internal and external stakeholder engagement. The position supervises administrative staff and ensures that departmental operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with AKU policies, procedures, and values.
Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership & Governance
- Provide administrative leadership and direct support to the Chair of Department
- Coordinate departmental planning, workplans, and reporting cycles
Office & Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day administrative operations and office systems.
- Manage workflows, schedules, records, and administrative staff.
Financial Management & Budgetary Control
- Coordinate departmental budget preparation and monitoring.
- Liaise with Finance on expenditure tracking and reporting.
Human Resources & Office Coordination
- Liaise with HR and central units on staffing, onboarding, and performance processes.
- Coordinate procurement of supplies and equipment.
Facilities & Logistics Management
- Coordinate office space, infrastructure, IT support, and event logistics.
Records, Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain administrative, project, and compliance records.

Qualifications
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Operations or Project Management, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a closely related field from a recognized university, and/or equivalent professional experience.
Relevant Experience
- Minimum of 5–8 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or operations management.
- Prior experience in an academic, research, or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting donor-funded or externally sponsored projects (e.g., grant budgets, reporting, compliance) is preferred.
