    Legal Manager

    Reference number LM/CSD/2022

    Reporting to the Head – Legal Services, the role holder will be responsible for assisting & supporting the Company Secretary by ensuring that the Bank & Staff adhere to all legal requirements and for providing legal support to Management, Business Units & Branch Network.

    The Role

    The successful jobholder will be expected to:

    • Oversee the perfection of the Bank’s Securities – movable and immovable.
    • Peruse & approve all Security instruments before & after registration/perfection.
    • Provide legal opinions to the Management & the Branch Network on various legal matters affecting the Bank’s operations.
    • Liaise with the Bank’s external Lawyers to ensure effective delivery of service.
    • Draw up, review and register leases or licenses for the premises owned by the Bank or rented by the Bank.
    • Draft, peruse & approve Service & other contracts entered by the Bank with its customers or with its suppliers.
    • Draft Agreements & other legal documents as may be required by the Bank from time to time.
    • Prepare standard legal documentation for use by the Bank.
    • Represent the Bank’s interests in litigious disputes in courts, quasi-judicial tribunals, Alternative Dispute Resolution fora & other legal fora.
    • Provide effective support to all stakeholders in the Bank’s recovery efforts including in litigious disputes.
    • Peruse & interpret legislation & other legal instruments.
    • Continuously evaluate & monitor agreements that the Bank is party to.
    • Maintain & update a record of the Bank’s Securities and contracts.
    • Maintain & update a record of the Bank’s Intellectual property.
    • Offer good service to both internal and external customers and observe courtesy and timeliness at all times.
    • Train staff on legal matters as required from time to time.
    • Offer Company Secretarial support to the Co-op Bank Group entities when required to do so.

    Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

    The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications: 

    • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from a recognized University with a minimum of four years of legal experience ideally in a leading organization, with a proven track record in litigation management, contract handling and conveyance.
    • Be an advocate of the High court.
    • Knowledge of the provisions of the Banking Act, Central Bank of Kenya Act, the Capital Markets Act & the Co-operative Societies Act etc.
    • Fully aware of all the relevant laws & statutes affecting the Bank’s Operations including knowledge of developments in legal practice & statutory amendments that are likely to have an impact on the Bank’s Operations.
    • Strong conceptual, analytical, documentation and presentation skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at different levels.

    Corporate Sales Dealer

    The role holder will be responsible for effective delivery of the full range of corporate foreign exchange products to customers with a view to growing revenues and maintaining continuous engagements to create synergies and wider product reach.

    The Role

    Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to: 

    • Support the Head, Corporate Sales to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the full range of treasury products and services including derivatives.
    • The key focus will be to grow foreign exchange transactions from corporate clients and increase the bank’s penetration of business units by both retention and acquisition of new relationships.
    • Actively contribute to improvements in quality/efficiency of treasury products delivery process and support product development and sales initiatives by other business units.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining client visits with relationship managers and follow up on reported action points.
    • Continuously engage the larger business divisions and build a network of relationships across all economic sectors.
    • Deliver market information and insight to customers via daily briefs delivered by email, text message etc.
    • Ensure service excellence to both internal and external customers.
    • Maintain professionalism while working within the bank’s risk guidelines and matrices.

    Skills, Competencies and Experience

    The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field. MBA and ACI Dealing certificates will be an added advantage.
    • Hands-on banking experience for a period of not less than 3 years, with at least a minimum of 2 years in Corporate Relationship Management or Treasury sales.
    • Excellent knowledge of treasury products with a thorough knowledge of end-to-end processes for treasury products and services.
    • Knowledge in structuring and pricing derivatives.
    • Market Knowledge of local and international events and their likely impact on currency and interest rates.
    • Good knowledge of other banks’ products and services, the financial sector, banking services, capital markets and key relevant stakeholder organizations.
    • Excellent analytical & presentation skills. Self-motivated, team player with an outgoing personality.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging targets. Good oral and written communication skills.

    Energy Manager

You are adept at training and educating all staff on energy reduction and local regulatory requirements.     Reporting to the Head, Projects and Facilities, within the Sourcing and Facilities team, the Energy Manager will be charged with the responsibility of meeting regulatory requirements by identifying, monitoring and recording of energy levels and usage within the bank.

    The Role

    Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:

    • Prepare checklists and circulate to capture weekly, monthly and annual energy consumption in the business.
    • Prepare and maintain records of diesel, water and electricity-consuming equipment for all premises. 
    • Identify high energy-consuming facilities and implement energy efficiency practices to reduce energy consumption.
    • Monitor costs and control capital expenditure for projects within the agreed budget. 
    • Prepare reports, propose and set minimization measures to be taken by those companies contracted by the Bank. 
    • Arrange and ensure energy audits are carried out regularly and keep up to date with changes in legislation in accordance with the Energy Management Regulation and Energy Act, 2019.
    • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and initiatives, including EPRA energy performance directives.
    • Educate and train all staff by having innovative ideas to raise awareness on how to act in an energy-efficient way.
    • Be proactive in driving new initiatives and adopting new more energy-efficient technologies.
    • Control capital expenditure for projects ensuring that they are within the agreed budget, time and quality during the design and implementation/supervision stages.

    Skills, Competencies and Experience

    The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
    • At least 3 years of experience in a role handling, monitoring and reporting energy consumption trends.
    • Knowledge of industry requirements and regulatory compliance coupled with a good understanding of legislation in energy management.
    • Ability to work well in a team, as well as manage multiple priorities in quick time frames.
    • Excellent business skills and knowledge of managing budgets, leading a team and liaising with suppliers.
    • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to deal professionally, confidently and effectively with staff and vendors at all levels, internally and externally.

    • Minimum 2 years experience in software development, data analysis and reporting as well as 2 years experience with working in web-based Java solutions (Apache Wicket, Tomcat/Jetty, GUICE/Spring, Solr, Webservices/Jersey/REST/Spring) 
    • Excellent understanding of server-side technologies (e.g. Node.js, Go, Ruby on Rails, Java, PHP, .Net) and client-side languages and frameworks (e.g. Javascript, AngularJS, ReactJS) 
    • Knowledge of designing RESTful APIs, SSO / OAuth, LDAP and Search Technologies
    • Knowledge of Agile software development practices
    • Experience with a least one JS framework/Libraries – React, Angular, Vue.js, Ember, JQuery, JQWidgets, Bootstrap, very good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and an understanding of Unix and Linux.
    • Excellent understanding of SQL database fundamentals (for MSSQL, Oracle, etc), other programming tools and languages particularly C#, ASP.NET, MVC, HTML/CSS, XML 
    • Experience working in an agile environment with DevOps processes, workflows and tools like TFS, GIT, Jenkins or Docker will be a plus.
    • Very strong analytical, presentation & problem-solving skills with the ability to work confidently on high-priority problems and present technical ideas in a user-friendly language.
    • Good knowledge of reporting and business analytics tools.
    • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new things
