    Young Professional/Consultant – Global Programs - 8 Positions

    Responsibilities

    IFDC is a large international organization with operations in more than 20 countries running multiple projects around the themes of plant nutrition, fertilizer access, market systems and agribusiness in agriculture and food systems. The institution is working around 3 main thematic areas: Soil health, market system development, and enabling impacts. The goal of the position papers is to convince and gather knowledge, and new direction to help the program team to bring arguable opinions in IFDC core areas and position the institution at a higher level in the agriculture environment. It will also serve as base documents and help ensure that IFDC is addressing key components.

    The papers will be developed on the basis of initial consultative research with staff experts, online research, and a detailed review of key documents produced by staff. The final version of the papers will be submitted to the expert staff panels and subsequently incorporated into the institutional knowledge repository. The series of webinars will be conducted, and final reports will serve as resources to guide our research and development approaches.

    The specific objectives and their respective tasks are:

    • To prepare four position papers on specified topics in consultation with the VP of Programs and Department Directors.

    Soil health:

    • Status of soil health in the world

    Enabling impact

    • Best practices to enable impacts

    Process:

    • Reviewing the material shared by staff experts (Step 1)
    • Reviewing other relevant institutional material (Step 2)
    • Authoring the draft paper document according to the outline template (Step 3)
    • Submitting the draft paper for feedback to staff experts and incorporating their feedback (Step 4)
    • Submitting the updated draft paper (Step 5)

    Job Requirements 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural economics, Rural Development, or a closely related field
    • At least 3 years experience in an academic, research, or development environment
    • Excellent writing skills in English
    • Excellent writing skills in French
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Agribusiness Cluster Development Young Professional-2SCALE Project, Kenya

    Responsibilities

    Strengthening Inclusive Agribusiness Clubs:

    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of the Inclusive Agribusiness Clubs (IACs)
    • Foster a culture of inclusivity within the IAC, ensuring the active participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups.

    Engagement with Stakeholders:

    • Build and maintain relationships with key actors in the agribusiness sector, including farmers, private sector companies, government agencies, and NGOs.
    • Organize meetings and events to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.
    • Advise the 2SCALE Kenya team on relevant industry forums and conferences.
    • Promote the interests of IACs within the broader agricultural community.
    • Support the implementation of partnerships and facilitate networking across various stakeholders involved in respective partnerships.
    • Draft communication pieces for various purposes – correspondence with partners, idea notes, talking points, meeting notes, etc.
    • Outreach initiatives – including but not limited to scouting for and convening meetings with potential actors, and following up on discussions.

    Support to PPP Implementation 

    • Support in coordinating activities including:
    • Workshops for annual planning – support in organizing and documenting action points.
    • Review of a wide variety of project documents (contracts, Sub-grants, AAPs, Reports, PSC reports etc.) in collaboration with Budget and Grants/Contracts Specialists
    • Tracking activities related to administrative tasks related to staff and project management including trackers for budgets, leave and travel planning, RNA schedules, budget forecasting, monthly funds requests, etc.

    Job Requirements  

    • Bachelor's degree in Rural Development, Development Communications or a related field.
    • Strong knowledge of the agricultural sector in Kenya, including market trends and challenges.
    • Excellent networking and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Swahili, both written and spoken.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
    • Willingness to travel within Kenya as needed.

    Reporting and Work Relationships

    • The consultant is supervised by and reports to the 2SCALE country team leader for Kenya. He/She will receive technical guidance and support from the IAAs and the thematic specialist. He/she will work in close collaboration with all other 2SCALE colleagues.
