    Grants Officer - Kakuma

    Key Tasks

    Grants Management

    • Lead grant opening and grant closing meetings for all grants and ensure that the resultant actions are completed in a timely fashion.
    • Manage the IRC Kakuma grants file system and ensure all files are regularly updated and easily accessible for relevant staff.
    • In coordination with the IRC Kakuma Finance and Programs teams, monitor project design, implementation, and spending to ensure compliance with IRC and Donor regulations.
    • In collaboration with the Partnerships, Finance and Program teams, provide training on grant compliance and regulations for partners and IRC staff.
    • Support program planning and ensure workplans, spending plans and procurement plans complement each other.
    • Circulate monthly/quarterly reporting schedules to the program and M&E team; doing follow-ups with the teams to ensure reporting schedules are met.
    • Assist in drafting compliance cheat-sheets, as needed.

    Program Support and Development

    • Assist relevant sector heads with policy and regulations interpretation.
    • Support the Snr. Grants Coordinator and Grants Manager in tracking funding opportunities, including calls for funding, progress of proposals, submission deadlines, financing available. Assist the Programme Managers in tracking the budgets expenditures and commitments in line with the approved spending plans and the workplan.
    • Develop materials and resources to assist in reporting, verification and compliance.

    Reporting/Capacity Building

    • Ensure timely submission of narrative and financial reports and support in the preparation of narrative reports as needed.
    • Build the capacity of program staff and partners on report preparation and technical writing skills.

    Communications Support

    • Draft, edit and disseminate written internal communications as needed.
    • Assist in developing web-based content for the IRC Kakuma Office in conjunction with the communications unit.
    • Respond to program queries and other correspondence as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be highly self-motivated, self-directed and quick to respond to rapidly changing demands.
    • Must be highly organized with excellent attention to detail and follow through while managing multiple tasks.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
    • Strong willingness and commitment to learn about different aspects of external resource mobilization, cross –sector engagement.
    • Undergraduate degree related to international development, development studies, social sciences, community development.
    • At least two (2) years’ experience in development or emergency programming in a developing country.
    • Knowledge of industry standards in grant management and design as applied to NGO work in the areas of Health, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, Education, GBV and Governance.
    • An advanced knowledge of multi-donor regulations, procedures and requirements preferred.
    • Ability to function effectively in a multicultural context.
    • Willingness to travel extensively to IRC (K) locations.
    • Excellent English language proficiency
    • Advanced computing skills.

    GBV Prevention Volunteer

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    PSYCHOSOCIAL FIRST AID

    • Provide professional and confidential services to survivors of GBV, grounded in the IRC’s holistic, survivor-centered case management approach.
    • Document client data accurately in the intake forms and consent forms and ensure they are under lock and key.
    • Ensure all work with SGBV survivors is confidential and that ethical practices are observed.
    • Participate in preparation of all relevant reports regarding the IRC’s psychosocial and outreach activities.
    • Mapping referral networks between partners implementing GBV.

    COORDINATION AND NETWORKING

    • Maintain and strengthen existing networks through other service providers at the community level, to ensure that survivors receive quality services and support both at the agency levels.
    • Participate in capacity building training for the local partner’s around psychosocial support.
    • Strengthen and maintain networks with community leaders, women leaders, and service providers to ensure that survivors receive compassionate support from the community and to encourage greater communication, collaboration, and coordination among partners (protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors)
    • Identify new community structures to work with to ensure wholesome support to the clients.

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH

    • Conduct sensitization, dialogue, and mediation sessions with the wider population about GBV related issues.
    • Identify and strengthen Community structures through engaging community leaders, county govt and other stakeholders to ensure that the women & girls receive adequate support at the community level.
    • Support in the dissemination of relevant information during Community SGBV prevention forums and meetings.

    MONITORING & DOCUMENTATION

    • Document all activities: Meetings, Trainings, and events, Field monitoring etc using appropriate documentation and reporting tools in the sector as required and ensure that all documents/data collected is properly and safely filed and stored.
    • Actively plan and submit weekly and monthly work plans and progress reports against set work plans using agreed reporting tools.
    • Develop, print, and distribute IEC materials on behavioral change and awareness aspects.
    • Prepare and share weekly and monthly reports as required.

    OTHERS

    • Fulfil any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
    • Respect the code of conduct and policies of the IRC and the standards of the GBV team.
    • Adhere and uphold the IRC Way (integrity, Service and Accountability) at the respective areas of work.

    KEY RESULT AREAS

    The GBV/WPE Kenya Programs’ goal is to enhance survivors’ utilization of quality services responsive to their needs and strengthen community-based structures and solutions to better protect women and girls, promote their empowerment to access opportunities, services, and support.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Certificate/Diploma in counseling and/or psychology, community development, gender studies or any social science.
    • Experience in psychosocial counseling, working with survivors of violence preferred.
    • Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women
    • Able to identify different forms of GBV.
    • Highly motivated, creative, and compassionate person who is dedicated to ensuring that models of best practice are utilized.   
    • Able to uphold high ethical and professional standards.
    • Able to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and respect for clients at all times.
    • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to promote the values of equality, non-discrimination, and human rights for all.
    • Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization.

    Nurse

    Key Responsibilities

    The NO reports directly to the Nursing Officer In Charge and will carry out the following duties:

    Programming

    • The clinical nurse shall work in a Maternity/Medical Surgical ward/Peripheral Clinics assigned to him/her, and therefore may work both as a supervisor /a team leader of the national and refugee staff.
    • Prepare for and assist the doctors during clinical procedures whenever required.
    • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment, and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
    • Carry out minor surgical procedures, screening, admissions, consultation, resuscitation, and stabilization of clients in management of clinical emergencies.
    • Provide effective reproductive health services based on all pillars of safe motherhood to ensure best maternal child outcome.
    • Implement community health strategy in collaboration with key stakeholders.
    • Refer to the doctor any relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management.
    • Observe and maintain infection prevention policy daily and ensure safe work environment.
    • Arrange and submit weekly/monthly ward or unit work schedule, plan daily duties and responsibilities for both national and refugee staff and leave plans to ensure adequate coverage.
    • Convene ward/unit meetings and attend important hospital or department meetings.
    • Escort patients during referral when necessary and facilitate acquisition of legal travel documents.
    • Participate in camp health surveys/campaigns as required.

    Reporting and Communication

    • Compile and submit quarterly inventory return/requisition of all drugs and supplies.
    • Conduct regular training sessions for national and refugee staff on basic nursing care/management of various ward cases, documentation, and infection prevention.
    • Provide individualized health education and counseling related to health maintenance and disease prevention.
    • Attend and facilitate Continuous Medical Education.
    • Compile and submit weekly/monthly HIS reports.
    • Monitor and supervise proper usage of supplies as well as maintain adequate supplies and buffer stock.

    Operations

    • Perform managerial and administrative functions in assigned wards/unit by participating in recruitment, capacity building, and appraisal and disciplinary of supervisees.
    • Maintain equipments in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same.
    • Maintain and update key registers in the assigned area and documentation of client assessment, nursing diagnosis and outcomes while ensuring confidential records.
    •  Ensure that all admissions, discharges, transfers, and deaths are properly recorded as they occur and participate in respective audits.
    • Report any significant changes in operations to the supervisor.
    • Carry out any other additional duties relevant to job description as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Key Result Areas

    Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of nursing care services and other related activities within the allocated ward/unit.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse from a recognized Nursing Training Institution. Higher Diploma in in Any field of nursing is an added advantage.
    • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with valid practicing license.
    • At least 5 years of experience in a busy hospital setting post registration.
    • Experience in the refugee context is an added advantage.
