    Senior Manager/ Lead- Marketing Capability & Excellence

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Brand Director , The role holder will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance our marketing capabilities across the organization. He/She will play a key role in driving marketing excellence, ensuring we have the best practices, tools, and talent in place to achieve our ambitious goals.

    About the role:

    This role targets an induvial with deep marketing and Brand Building experience with executional excellence across Markets and regions with a strong focus on best practice. This position serves as the voice that guides, oversees, and leads marketing excellence identifying operational efficiencies and potential barriers whilst establishing Safaricom Brand Function as Africa’s best in class Tech Marketing team.

    This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the evolution of marketing capability through the Safaricom Way of Marketing program in order to grow brand love through a digital-first, insights-led approach, within the Brand Center of Excellence (COE). The role holder brings to life  marketing excellence 

    The role requires a strong cross-functional collaborator and coach who can partner effectively with teams across various disciplines across Safaricom

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Below are the key skills and competencies required to be successful in this role:

    • A broad knowledge of Marketing experience supported by an indepth understanding of executional excellence and best practice 
    • Understanding and knowledge of how machine learning ,artificial intelligence  and experiential tech can be applied to enhance our marketing capabilities across the organization
    • Experience in driving brand campaign budget and performance management, and understanding of commercial drivers, data analysis  to drive performance.
    • Insight generation & application,  Strategic and creative problem-solver and collaborator
    • A strong understanding of brand storytelling and Brand PR with Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
    • Digital Marketing  & Marketing Technology (Martech) understanding,  including but not limited to) AI/Machine learning, Data & analytics
    • Experience managing partners and complex projects for flawless  campaign execution 
    • Ability to effectively influence cross-functional stakeholders and external partners.

    Responsibilities:

    • In charge of marketing practice codification developing clear growth drivers to ensure longevity of campaigns

    • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing capability framework, encompassing areas such as marketing technology, data analytics, marketing measurement, and talent development.
    • Partner with marketing teams across the business to identify capability gaps and opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop and deliver training programs to equip marketing teams with the latest skills and knowledge.
    • Benchmark marketing practices against industry leaders and identify best-in-class approaches.
    • Implement marketing automation and data analytics tools to improve marketing effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
    • Stay abreast of the latest marketing trends and technologies, and advise on their potential application within Safaricom.
    • Implement marketing measurement & evaluation processes to track campaign performance and inform strategic decision-making.
    • Manage the in-house creative studio, Safaricom Studio, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality marketing assets that align with the overall brand strategy 

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a marketing leadership role.
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful marketing capability programs.
    • Strong understanding of marketing best practices, marketing technology, and data analytics.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.

    Specialist – Merchant Onboarding

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Merchant Onboarding Lead, the Specialist – Merchant Onboarding will provide end-to-end onboarding to new merchants including Maintaining regulatory compliance in all acquisitions, Activating Lipa Na M-PESA products and troubleshooting issues during the onboarding process. The merchant onboarding specialist will ensure company mission is archived by managing 20/80 merchant relationship to deliver on business objectives, implement merchant management & support mechanisms in line with business processes to support M-PESA products.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure 100% compliance on KYC (Know Your Customer (KYC) before actioning on Merchant/Partner request.
    • Ensure 100% quality on LNM products creations across all systems.
    • Timely actioning of all sales and closure of Service requests with 24Hrs.
    • Communicate issues of non-compliance/irregularities to Partners and follow through to compliance.
    • Liaison between Safaricom sales Teams and Product Teams on matters M-PESA products related.
    • Liaison between regulatory, fraud and AML (ANTI-Money laundering) departments on matters compliance to ensure all partners across with LNM products are meet set regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure Zero audit issues on Merchant onboarding by collaborating closely with internal stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with technology and products owners on product enhancements and process improvements.
    • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for the department/Sales as requested.
    • Influence and leverage new M-Pesa releases and other projects to improve the customer experience.
    • Ensure the team adheres to all standard operating procedures and communicate any non-compliance/irregularities.
    • Support Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Business Continuity Processes with internal and external stakeholders.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized university.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in supporting the M-PESA service.
    • Must have firsthand experience working with the M-PESA system.
    • Previous experience working with the M-PESA Merchant operations team is an added advantage.
    • Broad understanding of M-PESA Payment services processes and interdependencies.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to understand customers’ needs into scalable digital solutions.
    • Working collaboratively with other cross functional teams.
    • Team player, critical thinker, with excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrate a record of handling M-PESA Merchants in various business touch points.
    • Experience in analyzing handling data using SQLs such as excel is an added advantage.

    M-Pesa Africa - Software Architect

    About the Role

    You will work closely with Agile Release Trains (ARTs) helping them implement enablers that define, explore and evolve our solutions. You will help plan and develop the Architectural Runway in support of new business Features and Capabilities by actively participating in Program Increment (PI) planning, System Demos and Inspect and Adapt (I&A) events. You will have an overarching appreciation for Agile Architecture in SAFe promoting a set of values, practices and collaborations that support the active, evolutionary design and architecture of our systems.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Intentional Architecture design 

    • Provide software architecture and designs using industry standard notations, such as UML and Data Flow Sequences 
    • Provide guidance for inter-team design and synchronise architectural implementation activities of systems
    • Define a set of purposeful architectural strategies and initiatives which enhance solution design, performance, and usability 
    • Provide guidance for inter-team design and synchronise architectural implementation activities of systems 
    • Designing software architecture that enables testability, deploy-ability and releasability 
    • System Design ie Create high-level software architecture blueprints and design specifications for applications. o Define the overall structure of the application, including the choice of frameworks, platforms, and tools.

    Emergent design 

    • Provide the technical basis for a fully evolutionary and incremental implementation approach helping developers and designers respond to immediate user needs allowing the architectural design to evolve.

    Architecting for DevOps and Release on Demand 

    • Ensuring solutions are architected for continuous deployment and delivery by decoupling deployments from releases 
    • Defining a Minimum Viable (“just enough”) Architecture supporting the creation and evolution of systems and systems interfaces 
    • Fostering architecture as code through common naming conventions, attributes and annotations 
    • Build quality in by automating architectural compliance checks 
    • Promoting and building trust in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline for Agile Release Trains to independently explore and test ideas in a true production environment

    Support Alignment 

    • Collaborating with Systems, Security, and Data Architects to ensure discrete solutions created by ARTs and Suppliers fit into and support the larger capabilities of the overall solution ▪ Participate in backlog refinement and prioritisation sessions 
    • Define enabler capabilities and NFRs 
    • Participate in regular Architect Sync sessions to ensure consistency in emerging designs and managing trade-offs across all ARTs and Shared Service teams

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Science/Computer Science/Engineering related degree or equivalent work experience 
    • 5+ years technical background inclusive of software architecture, software design, software development lifecycle
    • Ability to read code and map code to Software Designs
    • Producing High- and Low-Level designs (using industry standard notations such as UML) for Software Solutions required to run Tier 1 Business Critical Applications
    • Expertise in deploying, configuring, and supporting Software into Dev, Test, and Operations environments 
    • API and middleware design and build experience 
    • Experience of implementation projects 
    • Strong understanding of security principles, standards, and frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and CIS Controls. 
    • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, Rust).

    M-Pesa Africa - Senior Regulatory & Public Policy Manager

    About the Role

    Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Senior Regulatory & Public Policy Manager will work with Vodafone Group, Vodacom Group, Safaricom and local market teams to provide support, thought leadership and be the interface between regulatory functions and the Group Regulatory function, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations across the various African market footprint. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Regulatory inputs into the Group commercial planning processes

    • Ensure regulatory matters, which have material value, are accounted for correctly in OpCo business plans, budgets, and strategies.
    • Develop and implement regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with all local and international regulatory requirements.
    • Embed regulatory considerations in Group commercial product development to ensure product alignment with regulatory requirements in deployment markets.

    Mobile Financial Services regulatory and Tax Policy support

    • Provide regulatory advice and support to Group OpCos on key issues identified in Group Regulatory Team Strategy and as requested leveraging experts from Vodacom, Safaricom and Vodafone. Notably focusing on Mobile Financial Services policy, regulatory and tax issues.
    • Group in-country representation at national, regional and global policy events to support Group and OpCo advocacy strategy.

    Group regulatory governance and reporting

    • Act as a key interface between the Head of Regulatory and other departments within the organization
    • Provide regulatory input to ensure that, M-Pesa Africa Management, Vodacom Management (and Vodafone Management in accordance with Delegation of Authority) are briefed on the value and risk of material legal and regulatory issues. 

    Group-wide policies and strategies

    • Working with the team, support the development of Group-wide policies and strategies, which can be used by Group and OpCo representation with key stakeholders and regulators.
    • Monitor and ensure timely compliance with findings of regulatory inspections and audits.

    Regulatory community and development programmes

    • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments and industry trends in key M-Pesa and African markets.
    • Participate in and contribute to “Regulatory Community” programme and activities to ensure that we are leveraging benefits of global company with strong local roots, specifically in area of mobile financial services regulation and tax policy.
    • Provide Mobile Financial services regulation and taxation policy contribution to Regulatory Development Programme to increase understanding and build capability across the community, including coaching, training, presentations, workshops.

    Strategy and new business regulatory support

    • Provide regulatory support to Group Strategy and new business activities, including due diligences and assessments of opportunities.

    Regional and sub-regional institutions engagement

    • Provide regulatory support on matters being worked on by regional and sub-regional institutions (i.e. ITU, ATU, SADC, CRASA, COMESA, EAC) to secure regulatory decisions and minimise risk. Notably focus on Mobile Financial Services and Taxation Regulation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; Advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Regulatory Affairs within the Financial Services industry.
    • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing regulatory strategies.
    • Strong leadership abilities and a strategic mindset.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Proven experience working across multiple African markets, with a strong understanding of pan-African regulatory requirements.
