    Dean- Research and Postgraduate Studies

    Ref: ZU/10/Adv/17/2023

    The objective of this position is to foster a culture of research excellence, fostering innovation within the institution, securing funding for innovative projects and advancing the quality and impact of postgraduate programs.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to Deputy Vice Chancellor (ARS),the position holder will be responsible for the following,amongst others:

    • Provide leadership in research, innovation and grant writing in the University positioning the University as an industry leader in these areas.
    • Initiate and coordinate multidisciplinary research projects and initiatives.
    • Facilitate the dissemination of research findings.
    • Source for research and grants funding opportunities locally and internationally for Zetech University and its faculty.
    • Initiate, implement and coordinate training and capacity building of postgraduate students and faculty in research & grant proposals writing.
    • Develop and implement student and staff mentorship programmes in research, innovation and grant proposal writing.
    • Secure funding from various sources to support, research initiatives, and postgraduate scholarships.
    • Coordinate the activities of the Board of Postgraduate Studies and serve as its secretary.
    • Sustaining high academic standards in postgraduate programs including ensuring quality standards in teaching, research, thesis writing, and publication of research works for postgraduate students.

    Qualification & Experience

    • PhD/ D.Sc./D.Ed./DBA/D.Eng. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from recognized/accredited university with at-least three (3) years post-qualification experience.
    • At least three (3) years teaching, research and grant-writing experience in a university setting or 6 years in the industry is a key requirement for this position; Candidates must have demonstrable significant success and achievements in the areas of research and grant-writing.
    • The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to provide leadership in research and grant writing initiatives placing the University as an industry leader in these areas.
    • Must have experience working with funding bodies such as National Research Fund and Kenya National Innovation Agency.
    • A minimum of thirty-two (32) publications points as a Lecturer/Research Fellow of which twenty-four (24) should be refereed journals articles.
    • Supervised at least 1 PhD. student and 3 Masters students to completion.
    • Registered by a relevant Professional Body.
    • Attended and Contributed at Academic conferences, seminars or workshops.
    • Evidence of Contribution to University life through active participation in departmental and school matters or meetings, students’ academic advising and committee membership among others.

    Career Services Officer

    The objective of the position holder is to support the career development and employment success of students and alumni. They shall be responsible for providing comprehensive career counselling, and resources to help students explore career paths, develop job search skills, and secure employment opportunities. The Officer shall collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, employers, and alumni, to facilitate career-related initiatives and promote lifelong career development.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Providing individual career counselling and coaching to students and alumni on topics such as career exploration, resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies, networking, and professional development.
    • Developing and delivering career-related workshops, seminars, and events to enhance students' employability skills and readiness for the workforce.
    • Collaborating with academic departments to integrate career development into the curriculum and facilitate guest lectures, industry panels, and experiential learning opportunities.
    • Coordinating career fairs, employer information sessions, on-campus recruiting events, and other employer engagement activities to connect students with potential employers.
    • Administering and analysing career-related surveys and assessments to evaluate program effectiveness, track outcomes, and make data-driven improvements.
    • Collaborating with campus partners, including academic advisors, student affairs professionals, and alumni relations staff, to provide holistic support to students' career development needs.
    • Developing and implementing innovative career development programs and workshops to enhance students' employability skills.
    • Participating in professional development opportunities, conferences, and networking events to enhance knowledge and skills in career services best practices.
    • Implementing the mentorship and work-study programs

    Qualification & Experience

    • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Counseling, Psychology, Career Development, Education, or a related field qualification from a recognised/accredited University in the relevant field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in career counselling, student advising or related roles in a large and reputable organisation.
    • Evidence of being a member of a relevant professional body.
    • Strong understanding of career advising, job search strategies, and employment trends.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and organise career-related programs, workshops, and events.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in career services programming and initiatives.

    • A minimum of thirty-two (32* equivalent publication points as a Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow of which twenty-four (24*) should be from refereed journal articles.
    • Supervised at least two (2) postgraduate students.
    • Attracted research funds as a Lecturer/ Research Fellow
    • Attended and contributed at academic conferences, seminars and workshops.
    • Evidence of being a member of a relevant professional body.
    • Evidence of leadership (administrative experience, active participation in departmental /school/university/national/international activities)
