    Program Design Manager

    About this role

    Sustainable, scalable systems are the key to the magnitude of impact Komaza is able to have on the world. As we seek to grow from tens- to hundreds-of-thousands of farmers across East Africa, the productivity and efficiency of our operations in the field is critical to our success. You will take the lead on developing, innovating, and improving the systems used by our field extension network. This role reports to the Director of Field Operations.

    What you will do

    • Work closely with our field extension network to design and improve the systems, strategies, tools, and trainings that will allow us to hit our massive expansion targets.
    • Identify and prioritize significant opportunities for operational innovation - then lead research, design, prototyping, and scaling of our best solutions.
    • Run point on collaboration with other departments like Technology Development, People Operations, and Procurement in the execution of interdisciplinary programs.
    • Build the capacity of Komaza staff through workshops, mentorship/coaching, and stretch projects.
    • Work closely with the Director of Field Operations and the Field Extension Network to support execution in pursuit of ambitious seasonal planting targets.

    What you have

    • Bachelor's degree in relevant field, graduate degrees preferred
    • 3+ years relevant experience including extensive experience in program management, team leadership, and field-based operations
    • Supreme organisational, critical thinking, and communications skills with impeccable spoken and written English
    • Passion for Komaza’s mission to lift rural farmers out of poverty through the rapid scaling of our microforestry model

    Administration Manager

    About this role

    The Administration Manager is responsible for overseeing all the administrative activities that facilitate the smooth running of the Komaza headquarters and can lead strategic projects and events to improve the wellbeing of Komaza staff.

    This person is a highly energetic, superstar idea generator, organizer, project manager, and Microsoft Office whiz that can manage several Administration staff, and is willing to work whatever hours and times are needed to get things done. Last but not least, the Administration Manager is a friendly but firm presence in the office to ensure that all Company policies are being adhered to, and projects are being executed to a high quality standard in an expedient amount of time.

    What you will do

    • Recruit, train and manage office support staff, including Administration Assistants, Cleaners, Gardeners, Guards, and other personnel as needed.
    • Oversee all facilities activities and staff to ensure the office compound is maintained to a high level, including repair works and special projects.
    • Lead our relationships with landlords and other service providers.
    • Manage Security of the office facilities at all times by ensuring strict adherence to all safety procedures by our staff and security contractors.
    • Organize and engage with diverse staff and visitors at office reception, field visits, travel logistics, events planning, team building, and parties.
    • Manage and maintain inventory and stock controls over administration assets (office supplies, furniture, etc.), leveraging technology and systems to ensure that tracking is repeatable, scalable, and fail-safe
    • Keep detailed and up-to-date records of all administration documents including lease and rental agreements, supplier contracts, and staff work sheets

    Communications Operations Manager

    What you will do

    • Build and manage a team of Communications Officers who will deliver important messages to our partner farmers and their broader communities. Oversee and ensure quality control of communications delivery.
    • Map systems for rolling out critical communications to each of our farmers across the farm lifecycle.
    • Develop materials and lead top-notch communications trainings to Komaza staff on important Komaza policies for seasonal activities and in response to open questions arising in the field.
    • Gather quantitative and qualitative data on communications efficacy in order to improve materials and mentor staff through role plays, observations, and focus groups.

    What you have

    • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.
    • 3+ years of community development and relations experience.
    • Direct work experience in Africa and with rural farmers.
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint software.
    • Written and spoken English and Kiswahili required. Spoken Kimijikenda is a major plus.

    Operations Coordinator (Nursery)

    About this role

    As Operations Coordinator (Nursery), you will be at the helm of ensuring efficient achievement of our operational goals. This role does not require technical nursery expertise (we already have these skills in-house); instead, we are hiring a generalist operations manager to support the complex people and process management required for our growing nursery operation. The ideal candidate will thrive on detailed, but fast-paced work, providing a scrappy, can-do attitude in the face of challenging deadlines. You must always be willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, and seek opportunities for continuous improvement and grow rapidly with the team as we face rapid scaling of our operations. This role reports to Komaza’s Nursery Director.

    What you will do

    • Lead Nursery operations by developing work plans, supervising facility and equipment maintenance, and reviewing team performance.
    • Ensure strict adherence to set regulatory quality, health and safety standards.
    • Oversee financial management, including diligent maintenance of budgets and financial records.
    • Manage timely inputs requisition and meticulous stock records, ensuring compliance to stock control measures to check against pilferage and misuse.
    • Lead Nursery human resources, including team motivation, liaising with HQ office on disciplinary issues, casuals work output data, and new staff requisitions.
    • Coordinate and support field operations in seedlings distribution logistics planning and execution.
    • Seek opportunities for increasing logistics productivity, including analysis of seedling packaging and delivery, as well as feedback from field extension agents.

    What you have

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • 5+ years’ experience in managing complex operations (Business Administration or Project management).

    • Strong familiarity with the communities where we plant; you have lived or worked in rural low-income communities
