    Sous Chef

    About the Role

    This position is responsible to assist the Executive Chef in kitchen operations. S/he will train and motivate staff to exceed goals.With focus on quality and production levels, the Sous Chef will lead the culinary team on their mission to exceed Andelans’ expectations related to food quality and dining experience.

    Specific Key Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the proper efficiency and functioning of the assigned kitchen.
    • Supervises the work of Cooks and Pantry personal, remaining fair at all times.
    • Ensure the highest quality and standard of food at all times.
    • Test cooked food and check on its original appearance and freshness.
    • Ensures that Mise-en-Place must be always well stocked & prepared.
    • To be completely familiar with each section in the kitchen.
    • Ensure care for equipment and follow up on all maintenance issues.
    • Advise the Executive Chef on equipment issues & needs.
    • Create new menus and promotions as required.
    • Manage, train and develop the kitchen’s team, ensuring compliance with all hotel   standards & policies.
    • Meets guests to gain feedback and discuss special requests.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • With 2 – 3 years of experience in a similar role within a reputable hotel or a corporate set up.
    • Hands on and able to give clear leadership & management to the team.
    • Strong understanding of HACCP.
    • Proven track record of cost control including food, equipment, labor and waste to meet the food quality and the hotel’s financial goals.
    • Demonstrate real passion for menu planning and leadership.     
    • Diploma Certification in a Culinary discipline an asset.
    • Computer literate.
    • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities.
    • Highly responsible & reliable.
    • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
    • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
    • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times.

    Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

    • Constant standing and walking throughout shift.
    • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.

    Volunteer Learning Facilitators

    About the Role

    The volunteer learning facilitator at Andela will be an essential part of Andela’s Talent team strategy.This is a critical role at Andela as the success of our program depends on the quality of developers that we admit into the program. S/he would report to the  Community Manager- Technical Talent, work  with Bootcamp Facilitators  and Talent Sourcing Data Analyst to set objectives, priorities, and implement and monitor execution..

    The volunteer learning facilitator holds responsibility for:

    • Facilitating learning for the community members using Andela Homestudy Curriculum.
    • Ensuring that learners develop technical and team skills in alignment with Andela’s developer framework.
    • Tracking and managing learners learning velocity by ensuring that they complete their assessments on time and to a certain quality as guided by Andela principles.
    • Identifying learners who are fit for Andela fellowship after a certain period as guided by Andela hiring plan.
    • Collaborating with the curriculum team to provide insight into how our learning resources are being used and how they could better support the learning of community members.

    Specific Key Responsibilities

    • Mentor and coach at least 50 aspiring software developers and have at least 8 make it into the Andela fellowship.
    • Run weekly simulated software development sprints
    • Deliver actionable feedback and watch people improve based on your input
    • Continuously level up your own skills and grow with/into the organization

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Experience with one or more of the following:
      • Professional Software Development (ex: Web development in JS, Python, Ruby, etc. or Mobile Development in Android or iOS)
      • Instructional Design in Computer Programming or Software
      • Relational/Business/People Skills Training
      • Mentorship or Coaching in Software Engineering/Development

    Engineering Manager

    About the Role

    Andela’s Technology department is charged with implementing products that will help Andela to scale with consistency and quality while providing excellent service internally and externally.  It is responsible for finding the best solution for Andela’s needs, not necessarily the best solution that Andela can build.

    In this role, you will primarily work as a Engineering Manager within the Technology department as a people manager of up to 10 engineers in your location, providing mentoring and coaching to the engineers, and maintaining innovative processes that monitor the health of the engineering team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Be a combination of a highly-technical software engineer and an effective people manager
    • Recruit Technical Team Leads (TTLs) and Senior Engineers (SEs)
      • Identify potential candidates that best fit the role
      • Interview prospective TTLs and SEs to ensure fit
      • Facilitate onboarding of TTLs and SEs, in collaboration with Ops and P&C teams
    • Develop team and individual KPIs aligned to the Department and Andela’s strategic goals
      • Conduct quarterly reviews of KPIs in collaboration with Director of Engineering
      • Monitor all Engineering metrics, SLAs and KPIs for individual team members and ensures compliance with them
      • Communicate expectations clearly to all team members and solicit and deliver individual feedback frequently
    • Manage, measure and improve engineering processes
      • Onboarding and offboarding process
      • Software development process
    • Manage up to 10 engineers
      • Manage team members with different skill sets and technical areas of focus
      • Mentor and coach the engineers and ensure their success
      • Encourage and promote best engineering practices with the engineers
      • Encourage a data-driven culture with the engineers to improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of our in-house systems
      • Support the engineers in identifying, resolving and escalating issues that impact their work
      • Occasionally unblock engineers on complex issues via pair programming, whiteboarding and design sessions
      • Manage and track engineers on performance improvement plans
    • Inter-Departmental collaboration with
      • Engineering Managers to ensure collaboration across the Engineering department
      • Product Managers to advocate for and ensure the prioritization of technical initiatives

    Qualifications

    • 4-5 years of software development experience
    • 5+ years experience managing and growing software engineering teams as a people manager
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • A strong desire to mentor developers
    • Have ability to build rapport and communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Have strong leadership skills.
    • A Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

    Project Analyst

    About the Role

    The Information Division is made up of the Learning, Technology, and Success departments, and is responsible for serving Andela’s business units by providing a scalable and smooth pipeline of partner-ready developers that exceed expectations, while supporting our Partners and Developers along the way. As a Project Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting the CIO in analyzing the data across the division, helping to identify root causes of cross-department collaboration issues and helping to identify gaps in Andela’s processes and work to close those gaps to help the business run more efficiently.

    Specific Key Responsibilities

    • Work closely with the CIO of Andela, as well as his direct management team
    • Collaborate with many different teams in the division and help the division solve problems for Andela that have not been solved before
    • Ensure teams are following agreed-upon processes and when they are not, help to mitigate that risk in the Division
    • Work closely with different teams, including Operations to identify ways to automate processes or make them more efficient by looking for synergies between departments
    • Review, extract and analyze data on existing systems, processes and procedures
    • Creates reports that detail trends in performance and processes, as well as make recommendations for improvements; identify gaps and help close them
    • Manage the development of new projects through special research, data analysis, and data collection to facilitate strategic decision-making
    • Assess any project for financial and economic feasibility, and be responsible for administrative activities (estimates and cost control) and monitoring the activities set for each project
    • Coordinate with departments within the company and, in some cases, teams from outside the organization
    • Analyze, track, forecast, and report on department processes, metrics and other shortfalls

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience doing analytical, problem solving, teamwork-oriented work
