    Communications Specialist

    Job Description:

    • Delivering a strong Marketing and Communications Strategy for 2018-2019.
    • Maintaining the M-Shule brand identity.
    • Managing external and internal communications and marketing campaigns.
    • Designing and preparing stakeholder materials such as reports, newsletters, event posters, training materials.
    • Social media strategy & management.
    • Planning and executing community event programs.
    • Supporting coordinated events with new and existing M-Shule partners.
    • Support and propose other team projects and any other related tasks as needed.

    Required Profile:

    • Strong professional writing skills to create engaging materials for a Kenyan audience and an external/online audience.
    • Prior experience in communications and/or marketing.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
    • Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, WordPress, etc).
    • Aptitude for graphic design or ability to learn quickly.
    • A strong understanding of the Kenyan educational context, especially in low-income areas.
    • Bilingualism in Swahili and English.
    • Basic analytical skills.
    • Strong critical thinking, creative, design-thinking and project implementation abilities.
    • Strong independent worker with excellent ability to deliver quality work, improve on past processes, and collaborate with team members and users.
    • Enthusiastic and excited about innovative opportunities in edtech in Kenya, and want to bring that to as many learners as possible.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience in writing proposals and grants.
    • Photography and videography skills.

    Contract Details:

    Duration: This is a 3-month contract position that will begin in November 2018, with the possibility of transitioning into a long term contract after that based on performance.

    Digital Learning Project Consultant

    Job Description

    Project Details Include:

    • Oversee development, creation and organization of curriculum-aligned subject matter content and for learners to use through the M-Shule platform, in coordination with the M-Shule team and platform requirements.
    • Develop and implement streamlined processes and structures to translate written content to a digital format, categorize information, and track results.
    • Review and improve Math and English knowledge maps based on theory, student skill development and mastery, and curriculum requirements.
    • Review content database and content creation processes, assess student needs, and make recommendations to improve student learning experience.
    • Enforce quality assurance measures to ensure all content meets a baseline level of excellence.
    • Manage content developers, editors, and contractors in fulfilling all of the above needs.

    Required Profile:

    • Project management and design, particularly in coordinating teams, setting and meeting deadlines, establishing efficient processes, managing scope, and delivering quality results.
    • Extremely comfortable with ICT; conversant with technical language and working knowledge of how digital platforms interact with their content.
    • Background in primary education; preference for experience in differentiating instruction, content development, and lesson analysis.
    • Strong innovation, design thinking, and “learning by doing” skills, with ability to conceptualize new ways to get the job done and solve challenges in implementation.
    • Comfortable with business analysis and implementing quantitative approaches to tracking results and making decisions.
    • Strong independent worker with excellent communication skills.

    Job Description:

    • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources to allow team to make decisions around user experience, product, performance, and strategy.
    • Designing experiments and projects to test impact assumptions, measure KPIs, and make recommendations based on your findings.
    • Developing and monitoring new and better systems for high-quality data collection, measurement, and management.
    • Creating compelling stories about our impact based on analyses to share with customers, team members, partners, and other stakeholders.

    Required Profile:

    A desire to impact education, independent project management skills, and exceptional problem-solving abilities are all essential prerequisites on the M-Shule team.

    For this role, we’re also looking for someone with the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field such as Economics, Maths, Statistics, Business, Finance, or Computer Science; other degrees acceptable if there was strong coursework in the above areas.
    • Master of some of Microsoft Excel, SQL/Linqpad (or other query language), R, and/or Stata.
    • Experience in working across quantitative and qualitative data to extract actionable insights and communicate recommendations to improve performance.
    • Flexibility and willingness to jump in and lead projects in a hands-on, fast-paced startup environment.

    Customer Engagement Associate

    Job Description

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Regularly engage M-Shule’s partner communities to introduce new customers to our service.
    • Conduct trainings with parents, teachers, and schools.
    • Collect user observations and feedback, design improvements, and more.
    • Carry out research in target communities to map out demographics, identify potential partner schools, and execute on new ways to bring on customers.
    • Build and maintain relationships with partner communities by attending key meetings, following up on issues, and generally representing M-Shule’s voice and interests.
    • Write reports, conduct basic data analysis, and generate other materials to assist in understanding, marketing to, and better supporting our customers.

    You will succeed in this role if you:

    • Are enthusiastic and excited about the opportunities in new technologies in education, and want to bring that to as many learners as possible.
    • Have a background in and passion for education and/or field sales. Perhaps you taught or tutored for a few years at your local primary school; maybe you started your own business or have gone door-to-door to sell services before.
    • Are an expert and reliable independent worker. You get things done on time, you can set and maintain your own schedule, and you are proactive in coordinating with the rest of the team to get results.
    • Have amazing communication skills, from presenting to groups of customers to writing reports to submitting updates.
    • Can easily use Microsoft Office, email, and other computer programs to get work done.
    • Enjoy coming up with new ideas and solving problems as part of a team.
    • Are fluent in both English and Swahili.

    Contract Details:

    Duration: This is a 3-month contract position that will begin in November 2018, with the possibility of transitioning into a long term contract after that based on performance.

    Location: Contract will be full-time and based in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Compensation: Initial compensation will be set at net Sh20,000 per month plus field transportation reimbursement.
