    Program Officer - Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) Programs

    Scope of Position

    The Program Officer – VAS (PO-VAS) position consists in implementing HKI VAS programs in Kenya.

    The PO-VAS will report to HKI’s National Coordinator for Health & Nutrition (NCHN). The PO-VAS will also work closely with the regional VAS manager in charge of HKI VAS programs in Africa.

    The position will require regular travel to various counties of Kenya.

    The position will be located in Nairobi, Kenya.

    The key objectives of the VAS program are:

    • Ensure >90% coverage of VAS through a combination of bi-annual campaigns (Malezi Bora facility-based campaign) and routine delivery in health facilities.
    • Develop ownership of VAS within the health system of targeted counties.

    The key objectives of the PO-VAS position are:

    • Provide technical support to select counties of Kenya implement VAS programs through Malezi Bora campaigns and routine service delivery
    • Ensure coordination of VAS activities at national and county level
    • Document HKI VAS programs performance and achievements

    Specific Responsibilities

    The PO-VAS will:

    Provide technical support to select counties of Kenya implement VAS programs through Malezi Bora campaigns and routine services.

    • Provide technical support to counties health Management Teams to design and implement VAS activities within Malezi Bora campaigns
    • Provide technical support to counties health Management Teams in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the integration of VAS in routine service delivery
    • Support the design and implementation of post campaigns coverage surveys when required

    Ensure coordination of VAS activities at national and county level.

    • Ensure coordination of VAS activities at national level through relevant forum and through individual meetings with key stakeholders
    • Participate in Global Alliance for Vitamin A coordination meetings in Nairobi
    • Ensure coordination of VAS activities in select counties of Kenya with Ministry of Health and stakeholders

    Document HKI VAS programs performance and achievements.

    • Ensure the monitoring of HKI VAS program achievements and performance
    • Ensure the implementation of HKI VAS programs and the analysis of implementation and burn rates.
    • Provide support to HKI Health & nutrition program when required

    Requirements

    • Holder of Bachelor in Public health or equivalent but Masters in public health (Mph) preferred.
    • At least five years experience in humanitarian programs and in VAS programs
    • Excellent English writing skills
    • Experience in design and implementation of cross sectional surveys
    • Ability to analyze data and produce reports
    • Excellent communication and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated experience in preparation of donors proposals, budgets and reports

    HKI Kenya - National Coordinator for Health & Nutrition

    Scope of Position

    The National Coordinator for Health & Nutrition (NCHN) position consists in ensuring coordination of all health & nutrition (H&N) programs in Kenya.

    The NCHN will report to HKI’s Regional program manager and will support all activities conducted in Kenya. The NCHN will also provide technical support to Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) programs at the regional level when required.

    The position will require some travel in various counties of Kenya and in various countries in Africa.

    The position will be located in Nairobi, Kenya.

    The key objectives of the RVPO position are:

    • Provide technical support to HKI Health & Nutrition programs in Kenya.
    • Ensure coordination at the national and sub national levels with Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders.
    • Support the definition of a technical strategy for Health & Nutrition in Kenya and efforts towards definition of programs and seeking of funds to implement them.
    • Provide technical support to VAS programs in Africa.

    Specific Responsibilities

    The NCHN will:

    Provide technical support to HKI Health & Nutrition programs in Kenya

    • Provide technical support to HKI officers in the field to run HKI H&N programs.
    • Support the design and implementation of Monitoring and Evaluation activities for HKI H&N programs.
    • Ensure regular analysis of HKI H&N Programs including finance burn rates, program performance and program implementation

    Ensure coordination at the national and sub national levels with Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders.

    • Ensure regular and active participation to all relevant H&N forum in Kenya
    • Actively participate to relevant H&N conferences in Kenya
    • Ensure active coordination with Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders in Kenya

    Support the definition of a technical strategy for Health & Nutrition in Kenya and efforts towards definition of programs and seeking of funds to implement them.

    • Support the definition of a national H&N strategy for HKI in Kenya
    • Support the identification of funding opportunities through regular coordination with relevant donors
    • Support the preparation of proposals and budget for H&N programs in Kenya

    Provide technical support to VAS programs in Africa.

    • Provide technical support to HKI VAS programs in Africa
    • Provide support to the monitoring and evaluation of HKI VAS programs in Africa
    • Support the production of studies and knowledge products when required

    Requirements

    • Master of public health or equivalent
    • At least five years experience in humanitarian programs
    • Excellent English writing skills
    • Demonstrated experience in advanced statistical analysis and research
    • Ability to analyze data and produce reports
    • Excellent communication and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated experience in preparation of donors proposals, budgets and reports
