    Investment Analyst

    Job Purpose

    Reporting to the Investment Manager, you will assist the investment management team in the appraisal and execution of investment opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    More specifically, you will have the following responsibilities:

    • Undertake initial screening of enquiries and assessment of applications for investment against KCV investment criteria;
    • Undertake targeted research and marketing efforts in order to support the development of a pipeline of new investment business opportunities;
    • Assist the Investment Manager with commercial and financial due diligence, performing market research and financial analysis, including review of historic and prospective financial information;
    • Contribute to the drafting of investment papers for review by the Investment Manager before submission to Investment Committee;
    • Support all aspects of investment portfolio management, monitoring the impact and financial performance of existing investments, reviewing management information and compliance with covenants, and providing investee support; and
    • From time to time support the KCV Enterprise Development Manager with all the capacity building and technical support activities to the investee companies.

    Job Qualifications

    The Investment Analyst we seek will be a self-driven, action-oriented, results-focused professional with a passion for impact investing whilst maintaining a commercial mind-set. You will also have:

    • A university degree in the field of finance, business, economics or economic development;
    • A CFA/CIFA level certification is an added advantage;
    • 2-3 years of relevant work experience in microfinance, investment banking/asset management as an Investment Analyst;
    • Previous experience working for an early stage fund would be an added advantage;
    • Ability to understand and evaluate company financial statements and accounts;
    • Extensive user skills of Microsoft Excel and computer literacy in general;
    • Demonstrable experience in financial modeling;
    • Demonstrable communication, interpersonal, self-organization and analytical skills;
    • Ability to relate sensitively to a wide and diverse range of individuals and organizations.

    Enterprise Development Manager

    Job Summary

    As a member of the management team, the Enterprise Development Manager will contribute to the overall vision and direction of KCV. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Enterprise Development Manager will conduct needs assessment to facilitate the provision of customized training and capacity development on all the commercial aspects of the KCV investee companies to enable them to achieve the agreed implementation plans.

    Key Responsibilities

    More specifically, you will have the following responsibilities:

    • Carry out a diagnostic to determine the technical assistance needs of investee companies from time to time and prepare a technical assistance work plan for each investee company and monitor its implementation;
    • Provide advice to investee companies on matters relating to finance, general management, marketing, procurement and other areas of operations so as to meet agreed objectives;
    • Assist investee companies with preparation of all required material and, review all material produced by and advise appropriate action based upon the quality thereof;
    • Prepare and present training programs for investee companies as and when required, identify appropriate outsourced training service providers and manage intervention and key outputs;
    • Source, recruit, establish and co-ordinate a pool of skill and sector specific expertise for the investee companies;
    • Build up and co-ordinate a database of individual mentors with appropriate skills and resources for the investee companies, manage their work and report on their interactions with businesses; and
    • Follow up with investee companies to ensure they submit monthly documentation and input require and meet regularly with each investee company to assess progress towards objectives.

    Requirements.

    The Enterprise Development Manager will be a self-assured, results oriented individual with a passion for bringing about change in the society. You will also have:

    • At least 7 years professional working experience, 3 of which should be in a managerial role in a similar capacity ideally in agribusiness, water and clean energy enterprises;
    • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business administration and/or any related technical fields in agribusiness, renewable energy and water sectors is an added advantage;
    • Deep technical knowledge in SME development as demonstrated by successful work experience;
    • Demonstrable experience in portfolio management and project management;
    • Strong commercial acumen with proven abilities in capacity building and training;
    • Strong communication, administrative and analytical skills.

    Chief Executive Officer

    Job Purpose

    As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will provide strategic leadership for the company.  Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with KCV management team, you will establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies that are aimed at attaining growth, operational efficiency and the desired social, environmental and economic returns. Our investment thesis will provide a good foundation for the achievement of this.

    Key Responsibilities

    You will be looked upon by the Board and the staff of KCV as the developer of solutions to business challenges and as such, you will be charged with:

    • Providing leadership and management guidance in the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes aimed at delivering KCV’s mission and the attainment/surpass the capital, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives;
    • Developing and executing a fundraising strategy to ensure that the fund grows in value from the current USD 4 million;
    • Collaborating with the management team in the development and implementation of plans for operational infrastructure, systems and processes designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company;
    • Creating, motivating and leading a high-performance management team (not currently in place). You will provide mentoring as a cornerstone to the career development program and ensure that the organizations core values are put into practice;
    • Managing the image of the company, which will include but not limited to engaging with and successfully managing relationships with the Board, Investment Committee, investors and other stakeholders, you will act as the lead “relationship officer” through direct contact with every client, partner, investor and donor.
    • Fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.

    In addition, you will have the following:

    • A proven entrepreneurial mind-set/approach and enterprise development skills;
    • Experience with strategy development, implementation and project management;
    • A strong network in the local and international entrepreneurial finance community including funding agencies, investors and the donor world, as well as the ability to cultivate opportunities with co and follow-on investors;
    • Experience of building effective relationships with decision makers (CEO’s and Directors);
    • Significant local knowledge of the Kenyan early-stage investing and entrepreneurial space and experience of working with entrepreneurs, negotiating with them, mentoring and coaching them on how to grow businesses;
    • Experience with or ability to develop, adapt and/or improve the investment model, and to select investments with solid growth potential;
    • Early stage investment management and structuring skills – an appropriate understanding, exposure and interest in financing and investing in small and growing businesses, with a solid awareness of VC type investment approaches and structure; and
    • The ability to identify, recruit and lead a small investment team and other professionals.

     Qualifications

    • 10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5 in a management/leadership capacity in an investment fund preferably an early stage investment fund;
    • General management experience, at the helm of a similar impact fund or private equity fund is desirable;
    • Previous demonstrable experience in fundraising for an investment fund;
    • Post Graduate Degree in Business related areas is desirable;
    • Must have a bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, accounting, business or any other discipline strong in analytical orientation.

    Investment Manager

    Job Summary

    The Investment Manager will be actively involved in all aspects of investing and will contribute to the overall vision and direction of KCV as a member of the management team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Investment Manager will participate in development of the KCV investment strategy and will be tasked with its execution to ensure KCV’s sustainability and achievement of the agreed upon growth plans.

    Key Responsibilities

    More specifically, you will have the following responsibilities:

    • Lead a team of Investment Analysts and manage all internal processes of communication and coordination regarding investment opportunities in order to prioritize, build consensus for investments and achieve set goals;
    • Originate transactions of interest to KCV through an active and structured industry focused deal sourcing strategy;
    • Manage the due diligence process;
    • Prepare propositions, presentations and reports for the investment committee;
    • Deal execution including valuation, structuring and negotiating terms, management of advisors through to completion;
    • Participate in management of existing portfolio of direct investments;
    • Represent KCV during events and conferences and provide thought leadership in VC and clean-tech domains to increase KCV brand/mission awareness;
    • Identify potential investor networks and corporate/strategic investors within target industry verticals with the capability to invest; and
    • Establish and deepen relationships with venture capital/private equity firms and intermediaries.

    Requirements

    The Investment Manager should be self-driven, results oriented and action focused with an affinity for impact investing. You should also have:

    • 7 years investments experience in venture capital, private equity, corporate venturing ideally in an early stage investment fund;
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or other related field;
    • CFA qualification is an added advantage;
    • Demonstrable understanding of venture investment and end to end investment cycle;
    • Solid experience in financial analysis and financial modeling;
    • Excellent relationship building skills with strong networks across sectors including funding agencies and impact investors;
    • Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills;
    • Entrepreneurial individual with unquestionable integrity.
