    Talent Development: Media Training

    PURPOSE 
    The purpose of the consultancy is to develop and nurture talents of selected urban refugees in visual arts, video and music production through mentorship by Kenyan artists and fine art specialists.     
     
    OBJECTIVES  
    To provide training to 15 refugees, including coaching and training in music and fine arts composition, film production (photography and video), packaging, marketing and distribution skills, to enhance positive living through art. 
    Offer mentorship to 15 refugees (Fine arts and music) 
    Promote the use of   art as a form of therapy for refugees to address protection concerns affecting them 
     
    SCOPE OF CONSULTANCY 
    The consultant/consultancy firm shall work with refugees from all over the urban and peri-urban areas where persons of concern to DRC i.e. refugees reside. These areas include but not limited to East Leigh, Kayole, Kangemi, Kawangware, Kasarani, Kikuyu, Kitengela, Ongata Rongai, Ruiru, Umoja and Uthiru.  
    The scope of work for this baseline includes the following: 
    • Shortlist potential beneficiaries to audition and select 15 candidates (Fine Arts and Music) 
    • Conduct music composition and production (audio and video), fine arts and photography trainings for 15 days  
    • Conduct packaging, marketing and distribution training for 5 days 
    • Develop and produce 1 music video from the top songs done by the refugee artistes. 
    • Link the artists to music and art mentors and exhibitions to showcase their products in galleries. 
    • Document through reports, video and photography the trainings, workshops and events in which the trainees participate in. 
    • Ensure adherence by team to Laws of Kenya, all DRC security protocols, DRC Code of Conduct and other Humanitarian codes of conduct applicable during the period of engagement. 
    • Provide progress updates to DRC in all phases of implementation in Nairobi  
    Joint Responsibilities for DRC and CONSULTANT: 
    • Hold progress review meetings to discuss key proposed changes, progress, challenges and work plans.  
    • Develop and review of detailed monthly work plans 
    • Participate in specific activities including auditions 
    METHODOLOGY 
    The consultancy shall be carried out through varied methodology because all the trainees come in at different levels of skill and exposure. The organization trainers shall use a variety of instruction tools from instruction, demonstrations, and workshops, one on one coaching and mentoring with visit to studios and live recording sessions as some of the approaches/methodologies.   
     
    KEY DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS 
    • Activity reports within 14 days of completion  
    • Training of 15 selected refugee artists in Nairobi on music and fine arts composition, music production (audio and video) product development (packaging, marketing and distribution). 
    • Comprehensive hard and soft copy versions of the training Report in English 
    • Comprehensive video and audio documentation of training workshops 
    • Monthly progress reports of the activities 
    DRC RESPONSIBILITIES 
    DRC shall provide the following support towards this consultancy: 
    • Advertisement of the training opportunity and mobilization of participants 
    • Undertake logistics requirements such as venue, stationery and refreshments 
    • Mobilize participants for all training activities 
    • Facilitate transport  reimbursement to all trainees 
    • Payment to the  organization for all contractual fees in as stipulated in the contract  
    • Provide consolidated feedback/ guidance on draft reports 
    • Monitoring of the training activities and follow up of trainees after project conclusion 
    DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT 
    The consultancy shall run for a period of 20 days between the period:  30th January 2017 to 24th February 2017. The final report to DRC shall be expected by 15th March 2017. 
     
    REPORTING ARRANGEMENTS 
    The consultant will work under the oversight of the DRC Field Coordinator Urban Programmes. During the consultancy period, the focal point for coordination and liaison will be the Protection Officer and Protection Assistant in Nairobi.  
         
    EXPECTED PROFILE OF CONSULTANT 
    • Degree in fine arts/ music production or other relevant field.  
    • At least 5 years of progressive talent and experience in the music and art industry  
    • Working knowledge of both Kiswahili and English is a must   
    • Experience in working with youth and community based organizations  
    • Experience in training.  
    • Prior experience working with youth will be preferred.   
    • Experience working with local and national CBO, international NGO or in humanitarian work is strongly preferred.   
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, analytical skills and writing skills.   
    TERMS & CONDITIONS 
    • The consultant must abide by DRC security rules and directives 
    • The consultant must complete work within the stipulated time frame  
    • The consultant must operate within the budget allocated.  
    • The consultant must adhere to and sign DRC’s  Code of Conduct
