    Audit & Risk Manager

    Responsibilities for the Audit & Risk Manager Job

    • An officer at this level will be responsible administratively to the Chief Executive Officer and functionally to the Board through the Audit and Risk Management committee to ensure there is an innovative responsive and effective risk management approach within the fund including;
    • Formulate policies for effective risk management strategies and framework for the Fund.
    • Lead regular reviews and updating of the risk management plans of the Fund.
    • Coordinating and overseeing all risk management activities and assessing compliance with internal policies, relevant contracts and all legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Coordinating risk assessment and profiling, assessing effectiveness of controls and efficiency of the Fund’s operations.
    • Coordinate preparation, approval by the Board and implementation of annual audit plans and appropriate audit programs.
    • Ensure sound development and implementation of audit management systems.
      Ensure proper preparation of audit reports, presentation of the same to the Audit & Risk Committee on quarterly basis and implementation of audit recommendations.
    • Ensure proper interpretation of financial policies for sound auditing practices and control.
    • Responsible for coordination of Audit & Risk department’s activities, including staff training and development.
    • Liaising with external auditors and ensure implementation of their recommendations.
    • Developing and updating the Board Internal Audit & Risk Committee
    • Charter as well as the internal Audit Charter.
    • Review effectiveness of the risk management system and strategies, and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Review the Fund’s compliance with the relevant statutes, policies, rules, regulations, administrative government circulars and guidelines.
    • Review the adequacy of internal policies, procedures and processes to ensure necessary and sufficient internal controls are in place.
    • Receive and review external auditor’s reports and management responses thereto including the actions taken to address material issues raised.
    • Maintain Audit working files to ensure working papers are complete and available audit evidence fully supports audit opinions and recommendations.
    • To make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed, report on the findings and recommendations and monitor management’s response and implementation.
    • Implement the annual audit plan and present a report to the Board Audit Committee on a quarterly basis.
    • Supervision on risk assessment exercises and ensures implementation of risk management guidelines.
    • Designing and coordinating the execution of an annual audit plan in compliance with conventional audit guidelines and best practices.
    • Ensure there is an updated Board Audit & Risk Committee Charter and an
    • Internal Audit Charter duly approved and is reviewed from time to time.
    • Ensure compliance with sound internal audit principles, relevant statutes, government policies and best practices.
    • Review risk management approaches and recommend ways of improving risk management in the fund.
    • Liaise with external agencies and other review bodies on matters relating to audits and follow up on actions taken.
    • Carry out special assignments including investigations and recommend controls to mitigate risks.
    • Staff management including ensuring target setting, performance evaluation, mentoring, training and development of staff in the department.

    Qualifications for the Audit & Risk Manager Job

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:-

    • Served in Audit function for at least 12 years with at least five (5) being in a managerial position.
    • Master’s degree majoring in Finance ,Accounting or Strategic
    • Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • CPA (K) or any other recognized qualification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting option)
    • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Forensic Accountant (CFA).
    • Member of ICPAK, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) , Information
    • Systems & Control Association( ICACASA) in good standing.
    • Attended Senior Managers Course lasting at least 4 weeks
    • Attended Senior Leadership Course Lasting at least 6 weeks

    Competencies required

    • Broad knowledge of Public Sector Accounting standards
    • Thorough understanding of National Development Goals and familiarity with the latest emerging trends
    • Excellent Communication, interpersonal, writing and editing skills
    • Ability to think creatively and innovatively
    • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
