    Assistant Safe Haven Program Coordinator

    Report to Program Coordinator

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in guiding the Matrons, supervisor and other staff to maintain the JRS mission and vision.
    • Assist in Preparing and carrying out counselling intervention for women at the Safe Haven
    • Prepare and carry out child counselling for children at the Safe Haven
    • Assist in provision of psychosocial follow up of Safe haven beneficiaries
    • Assist in providing psychosocial support to clients referred by other agencies
    • Be a strong focal person on SGBV and PSEA and represent JRS on various forums
    • Assist in training all JRS Staff, refugee staff on SGBV and PSEA using the JRS SGBV manual in collaboration with other coordinators
    • Assist in training refugees on SGBV planned activities using the JRS SGBV Manual
    • Facilitate the capacity building activities for Safe haven clients in coordination with partner agencies
    • Assist in peace building and conflict resolution session with safe haven clients
    • Assist in facilitating Safe haven children and adults access education activities
    • Prepare client profile regularly
    • Support all activities at the Safe haven centres through photocopying forms, letter, re-revision of forms
    • Assist in collaborating with Community counselling, mental health and education programs on including SGBV interventions in activities adequately.
    • Participate in In-service trainings and other awareness activities in coordination with other partner agencies
    • Assist in monitoring Safe Haven supplies and assets
    • Assist in maintain appropriate documentation and reporting tools and regularly monitor the relevancy of Safe haven tools
    • Work collaboratively with JRS team and other stakeholders
    • Assist in supervision of the counsellors at the centre
    • Assist in participating in recruitment and supervision of staff at the Safe Haven program
    • Ensure that services are offered in a professional and ethical manner
    • Participate in needs assessment and monitoring and evaluation of activities
    • Be actively involved in advocacy on behalf of all refugees
    • Offer support to the Kakuma project in other areas as needed depending on your qualification and gifts.
    • The assistant coordinator also assists in trainings on Child Protection
    • He or she is a Child Protection officer just like the Program Coordinator
    • The Program Coordinator is the focal person on SGBV. Maybe if we include that the Assistant Coordinator as the focal person on Child Protection.
    OVERALL RESPONISBILITY
    • The Safe Haven assistant Program coordinator assists in the overall activities run as the JRS protection centre (Safe Haven) in Kakuma.
    • Under the direction and supervision of the Program coordinator, assists in administration and management of the protection centre called the Safe Haven for the survivors of Gender based Violence in Kakuma refugee camp.

    Qualifications

    Requirements

    • Should have a university degree in Counselling or Gender related degree field
    • Should have demonstrated experience of working with SGBV survivors for at least two years
    • Ability to work in environment of relief emergency
    • Ability to develop and deliver training programs on SGBV and PSEA
    • Ability to build effect partnership and collaborate with other team members
    • Ability to carry out counselling to Adults, adolescents and children
    • Ability to conduct Group counselling among SGBV survivors of all ages
    • Ability to work sensitively with refugee populations of different ethnic background
    • Ability to be flexible with working hours
    • Ability to conduct a psychosocial assessment and use various psychological assessment tools
    • Patience, perseverance and ability to work in stressful environment
    • Proactive and self motivated
    • Experience in writing reports (monthly, quarterly, mid-year and annual)
    • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills
    • Excellent analytical and reporting skills
    • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills
    • Has experience working in an NGO
    • Has knowledge about the Kenyan laws and Refugee laws
    • Good knowledge on MS Office
    • Excellent oral and written English and Kiswahili
    • Preferably a Kenyan national
    • Aged above 30 years and preferably a lady.

    Language

    • Fluency in English (written and spoken) and excellent writing skills.
    • Fluency in Kiswahili.

    Technical Skills

    • Strong analytical, reporting, strategic thinking and planning skills.
    • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience
    • Knowledge of project cycle management.
    • Good knowledge of MS word, Excel/Office
    • Knowledge and ability to apply INEE standards
    • Knowledge in Complementary Healing a benefit
    • Knowledge in first aid or nursing  is a plus
