Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator- Child.org at Child.Org

The role

This is an opportunity to join a small but growing and fast paced international development organisation. We are looking for a self-driven and dynamic Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator to give technical support and guidance in the development and implementation of our programme monitoring and evaluation systems.

The role will have an initial focus to develop monitoring plans for our new Maternal and Child Health programme funded by UKAID. This will involve taking a lead role in the coordination of the project’s baseline survey and development of various tools for ongoing data collection and management.

The role will be based in our office in Nairobi but will work very closely with other programme teams in Meru and the UK office. About 40% travel to Meru is expected.

Main Responsibilities:

• Programme Planning and development
  • Assisting in developing and implementing organisational MEL systems, programme indicators and reporting systems for programmes activities.
  • Provide technical input in development of logframes and monitoring frameworks for new project proposals.
  • Training field staff in the use and sharing of project data
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the programmes data management systems for increased data accuracy, reliability and increasing programming impact and coverage.
• Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
  • Working with programme teams to conduct project assessments.
  • Working closely with the programming team and implementing partners in carrying out regular M&E audits on projects.
  • Conducting regular field monitoring visits and supporting project staff to ensure that they have the capacity to collect and manage project data efficiently.
  • Compiling, analysing and reporting data for key programmatic outputs, outcomes, and impact indicators, including routine data validation.
  • Working with the programme team to coordinate project review meetings.
  • Ensuring timely production of monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external M&E reports based on agreed performance indicators.
  • Continuously using evidence gathered to improve the quality of our programming and identifying new areas of opportunity.
  • Sharing Child.org’s key programme findings and learning in relevant county government forums, Technical Working Groups, committees and meetings.

About you

• You will have a very good understanding of monitoring and evaluation in the context of implementing maternal and child health and education programmes. You will have a good understanding of data analysis and interpretation and how to use programme learning to improve programme quality and identify new areas of opportunity.
• You will be a highly innovative person, who can use data evidence to identify opportunities and develop new ways of working. You will be very agile with excellent analytical skills and can work under minimal supervision. There is no room for someone who looks forward to 5pm arriving so they can leave. We don’t want you to stay after 5pm very often, but we want you to be unhappy about that.
• You will spend 75% of your time on our UKAID funded Maternal and Child Health Project in Meru developing monitoring and evaluation plans for the project and working with project teams to conduct project assessments . The Pregnant Women’s Group project is a project that aims to create a supportive environment for 5700 rural poor women to learn about maternal health and increase their confidence with the intention that this intervention will improve maternal and child well being.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, social sciences or equivalent academic degree in other relevant subject.
• Additional training and certification in project monitoring and evaluation is preferred.
• At least 5 years demonstrable experience working in programme monitoring, evaluation and learning.
• Thematic knowledge in conducting monitoring and evaluation for maternal and child health and education programmes.
• Experience in development of project log frames and monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
• Experience in conducting programme evaluations including development of data collection tools, data management and analysis.
• Experience and ability to conduct training for programme teams.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Competency with a statistical database such as EPI Info, SPSS, or STATA is essential.
• Sound computer literacy skills, especially Excel/Google Sheet formulas/Google docs.
• Knowledge in the project cycle management.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Good analytical skills.
• Good report writing skills.
