    Rapid Assesment of Playboxes and Community Listening Libraries

    Consultant scope of work

    AKF is seeking to engage partner organisations to work as part of a diverse team to develop and implement a research project to investigate the relevance, use, and efficacy of the household playboxes and community listening libraries to promote reading for joy and learning through play. The research will need to: i) be formative and inform the further distribution of content to households and libraries, and, ii) assess the overall relevance, use, and efficacy of these interventions. The scope of work includes:

    1. In collaboration with AKF, finalise the research and learning framework
    2. Identify the critical assumptions to test and potential data sources
    3. Develop a research methodology to test the assumptions with a clear data collection plan
    4. Develop the necessary tools for data collection
    5. Develop an analytical framework, including dummy tables for cross analytics where needed
    6. Lead data collection and analysis in the appropriate geographies in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
    7. Deliver formative presentation on the learning for AKF internal teams
    8. Deliver final report in agreed format
    9. Design communications assets to ensure learning is effectively communicated to diverse audiences including, but not limited to, parents, community-based librarians, teachers, government, internal AKF staff, and global community of education and donors.

    Key deliverables

    At minimum, the deliverables include:

    • All frameworks and tools developed and data collected through the research process
    • Finalised formative presentation to inform the ongoing project to the AKF internal team
    • Finalised presentations/tables/graphics of findings and all differentiated communications assets
    • Finalised written report evaluating overall relevance, use, and efficacy of the Playboxes and Community Listening Library interventions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
