    Anglican Development Services - North Rift (ADS NR) is the Development arm of the Anglican Dioceses of Eldoret, Kitale, Kapsabet and Missionary Area of Lodwar. The ADS NR region covers the six counties of the North Rift namely: Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeiyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia, West Pokot, and Turkana. Which is a total of 177,394 Square Kilometers and has an estimated population of 4.3 million according to the National Census of 2009.     Field Officer - Nutrition

    Major Responsibilities

    • Project Design, Planning and Implementation
    • Directly responsible for the implementation of day-to-day project activities in the field locations based on the agreed plan.
    • Conduct beneficiary selection for the program’s various intervention schemes based on socioeconomic vulnerability assessment.
    • Take part in and coordinate the project related assessments and mapping under the direct support of resilient livelihood senior officer
    • Under direct supervision from the Project Officer conduct training and capacity building of project participants/ beneficiaries.
    • Ensure that all the activities under your responsibility are implemented in accordance with guidelines, ensuring standards of accountability and the ADS-NRR Complaints Response Mechanism is being properly implemented through all project activities
    • Facilitate MoUs and contracts between project participants and service/input providers.
    • Coordinate with all the relevant local authorities in the field to ensure smooth implementation of the project through maintaining a good working relationship with all the stakeholders in the field
    • Support the Project Officer to come up with weekly activity reports from the field.
    • Support in the record-keeping of all the project documents and ensuring that all the information is updated in the files.
    • Under the direct guidance from the Project Officer support all the local partners in the day to day implementation of the activities.
    • Understand and follow relevant standard procedures for cash or food interventions (if any) including compliance with relevant policies.

    Any other duties will be assigned by the Project Officer 

    • Quality assurance for programmatic Designs, Assessments, Monitoring and Evaluation processes
    • Under direct supervision of the Project Officer-Livelihoods and Resilience, develop quality reports: weekly situation reports, monthly reports and quarterly reports as per ADS-NRR and/donor(s) reporting guidelines
    • In liaison with other project partners and MoH develop monitoring plan, analyze nutrition information from health information system and other sources to understand trends for timely decision making
    • Document success stories, and best practices to demonstrate the impact created by ADS-NRR from the project implementation

    Advocacy, Engagement, Partnership and Networking

    • Under direct supervision of the Project Officer-Livelihoods & Resilience, represent ADS-NRR in nutrition stakeholder meetings at county and/or sub-county levels
    • Conduct advocacy activities to ensure resource allocation to nutrition by county governments
    • Engage with MoH at Sub-County or county level to influence resource allocation to nutrition related activities. 
    • Participate in the County level technical working groups on nutrition relevant to strategy formulation 
    • Provide support to community led processes of monitoring public service delivery.

    Capacity building

    • Ensure capacity Building of government community and CBOs to be able to effectively manage and sustain Health and Nutrition interventions.
    • Ensure that key trainings meet the standard required to facilitate, provide knowledge and reinforcement of desired nutrition behavior and practices.

    Others 

    • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time
    • Participate and contribute in committees and task forces as may be required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

    • Minimum Qualification: of Bachelor degree in Food & Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant degree in related health field or their equivalent from a recognized university.
    • Technical specific knowledge: Knowledge about infant and young child feeding, child growth, nutrition during the life cycle, acute malnutrition, chronic undernutrition, child development and micronutrient deficiencies. Additional knowledge and abilities about the alignment of nutrition with maternal and child health, mental health, and food security and livelihoods programs.
    • Experience: At least two years working experience of which two should be in a maternal, newborn and child health/nutrition interventions.
    • MUST be registered with relevant health associations such e.g., Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute. 
    • Good understanding of Ministry of health systems, Health and Nutrition programming models, standards and guidelines, Ministries of Health structures at county and national levels.
    • Familiarity of national Health and Nutrition policy and advocacy instruments and structures
    • First-hand experience in health and Nutrition programming including in complex emergencies
    • Experience in conducting health and nutrition surveys using Lot Quality Assurance Survey (LQAS), Open Data Kit or ENA-SMART methodologies is an added advantage.
    • Significant experience working with an NGO environment, community and people’s groups, state institutions etc.
    • Good understanding of SPHERE and other international standards.
    • Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written).
    • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Microsoft Outlook
    • Ability to take initiative, a team leader able to work with minimum supervision
    • Cross-cultural sensitivity and emotional maturity
    • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts
    • Good report and proposal writing skills
    • Community Mobilization skills highly required
    • Good communicator with analytical and problem-solving skills
