Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the Assistant Compliance Officer will support the implementation, monitoring, and documentation of the organization’s compliance frameworks. The role ensures that manufacturing operations comply with regulatory, statutory, and internal policy requirements. It involves facilitating audits, tracking regulatory obligations, supporting investigations, and working closely with cross-functional teams to foster a strong compliance culture.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Compliance Monitoring & Implementation
- Assist in implementing and monitoring the company’s compliance program, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular internal compliance checks and site visits to ensure adherence to standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting manufacturing and FMCG operations.
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA, KEBS, NEMA, Ministry of Health, Labour Laws, and KRA requirements.
- Track and manage license renewals, permits, statutory filings, and regulatory deadlines.
- Assist in coordinating and responding to inspections and audits from regulatory authorities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain accurate compliance documentation, registers, and reports.
- Draft compliance briefs, policy updates, and written communication for internal circulation.
- Support the preparation of compliance audit reports and follow-up action plans.
Risk Identification & Corrective Actions
- Support investigations into non-compliance issues or operational risks.
- Assist in developing and monitoring corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans.
- Escalate compliance risks and gaps to the Compliance Manager promptly.
Training & Awareness
- Facilitate compliance-related training and awareness programs across departments.
- Collaborate with HR, Quality Assurance, Production, Safety, and other teams to drive a compliance-first culture at all levels.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
- Professional certification in Compliance, Risk Management, Audit, CISA, CFE, or any equivalent credential is an added advantage.
- 0–2 years experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory roles (manufacturing or FMCG preferred).
- Familiarity with ISO 22000 (Food Safety) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management) is desirable.
- Experience working with regulators such as KEBS, DOSHS, and NEMA is an added asset.
