Assistant Director, Fisheries at Kakamega County

Duties and Responsibilities

• The officer will be the specialist in either Fish Quality Assurance or Marketing, Aquaculture Development or Dam and Riverine Fisheries.

Specific duties and responsibilities will entail: -

• Implement fisheries policies, projects and programs;
• Organize extension approaches and methodologies;
• Implement and monitoring resource conservation intervention strategies;
• Monitor fish seed and feed production programs;
• Design fish marketing strategies;
• Promote fish and fishery product value addition;
• Monitor and evaluation of fish projects/ program;
• Undertake applied research;
• Liaise with research institutions for research programs and dissemination of research findings;
• Manage fisheries data bank; and
• Coordinate resource utilization at the area of deployment.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -

• Served in the grade of Principal Fisheries Officer, Job Group CPSB 06/’N’ for a minimum period of three (3) years;
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields;- Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in any of the following fields; - Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
• Broad knowledge in Fisheries Development and Management Policies, Fisheries Act and related Acts and nternational Conventions; and
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
