Assistant Sound Technician - Nairobi at Emerge Egress Consulting

Role Objective:

• Our client as seeking a highly organized and technically skilled professional with hands-on experience in sound engineering, audio-visual systems, and technical troubleshooting. The successful candidate should be reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and connect microphones, DI boxes, mixers, speakers, amplifiers, monitors, processors, cabling, and other audio equipment for productions.
• Assist with patching, gain staging, line checks, sound checks, and system testing before going live.
• Operate and monitor audio during live productions, broadcasts, recordings, services, and other programmes.
• Identify and resolve common audio problems such as feedback, noise, distortion, signal loss, incorrect routing, and faulty connections.
• Support microphone management, stage monitoring, recording, playback, and basic post-production workflows.
• Assist with the setup and operation of video, lighting, and LED display systems where required.
• Handle equipment responsibly during loading, transportation, setup, dismantling, and storage.
• Carry out routine equipment checks and report faults, damage, or servicing requirements.
• Maintain basic equipment and production records and help keep the technical inventory organised.
• Work alongside the wider media and production team to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered on time.

Job Specifications and Qualifications

• Diploma in Audio Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of practical experience in sound, AV production, broadcasting, studio work or a similar environment.
• Practical experience with live sound systems and digital mixing consoles.
• Familiarity with recording and basic audio editing is an advantage.
