    Cage-Free Egg Farmer

    The role

    As a farmer collaborating with Healthier Hens you would need to:

    • Share information about your farms via phone calls or in-person visits;
    • Share feed samples from your farm via our Sample Collection Protocol;
    • Allow accompanying certified vets to perform on-farm welfare indicator assessments.

    How will your work have an impact?

    • Your work will improve the quality of Healthier Hens’ efforts, increase the feasibility of Healthier Hens pilot program and early field work;
    • Healthier Hens has the potential to achieve unprecedented impact via a cost-effective intervention focused on feed fortification and you are able to make that possible;

    What we are looking for

    • Deep litter system
    • At least 500 hens
    • Accommodate 1 farm visit a month (in December, January and February). During each visit, a certain number of hens will be examined non-invasively, for example via feather examination, bone palpation, visual foot health inspection.
    • Allow feed samples of commercial feeds to be collected for quality analysis.

    What we offer

    • Ksh 1225 per visit
    • Feed quality analysis at accredited laboratories for their content of key nutrients (calcium, phosphorous, vitamin D3 and protein).
    • Veterinarians to help farmers troubleshoot on farm issues via sharing resources and knowledge on good management practices, welfare assurance, biosecurity, bookkeeping, and barn maintenance.
