Duties and Responsibilities

• Gathering information on programmes, significant events in a specific sectoral area and the impact on customers, and forwarding the same to the head of Public Communications Unit for dissemination; Assisting in the development of communications and media strategy;
• Editing stories on various topical issues before they are released to the public and liaising with media practitioners and the public on issues of mutual concern.
• In addition, the officer will be responsible for scheduling interviews with Government officials; managing assigned projects/programmes, and organizing events under the guidance of the head of the Public Communications Unit.
• Participating in strategic planning, including setting goals and objectives for the department and creating a plan to achieve them and managing the organization's branding efforts through advertising, public relations, social media, etc.
• Coordinating activities with other departments within the organization to ensure that they align with the County Government's overall message.
• Developing employee training programs to help staff communicate more effectively with residents' and partners.
• Establishing relationships with community leaders and other key contacts who can help promote the County Government through word of mouth or by providing positive coverage in the media.
• Implement media relations, handle public complaints, monitor public perception of the County Government and analyze stakeholder's feedback, information and communication.
• Develop and monitor networks with stakeholders, donors, sponsors and partners.
• Design and develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) publications and materials (documentaries) on County Government.
• Nurture networks and partnerships with external stakeholders.

Requirements for Appointments

• Be a Kenyan Citizen
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism/Mass Communications/Public Relations/Marketing or Social Sciences from a recognized institution in Kenya;
• Have served in the grade of Senior Public Communications Officer or in a comparable and relevant position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
• Have a clear understanding of the working of the media and the socio-political environment in Kenya;
• Possess good oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;
• Possess advanced computer application skills and good writing skills
• Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence in communication, management and administrative capability in performance and results.
