    Clinical Officer- Gender-Based Violence Recovery Centre

    Overview:

    We are seeking a dedicated and experienced clinical officer with experience in treating patients and survivors affected by Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trauma care, with the ability to provide comprehensive medical and psychological support to patients and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. The role requires advanced clinical skills, a trauma-informed approach, and experience in handling sensitive cases in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

    Responsibilities:

    The Clinician will be responsible for the following:

    • Trauma Care: Deliver expert medical treatment to patients presenting with a wide range of trauma-related injuries. Provide initial assessment, stabilization, treatment, and follow-up care.
    • GBV Response and Care: Lead the medical response for survivors of gender-based violence, including conducting thorough medical examinations, treating physical injuries, and managing the psychological impact of trauma.
    • Forensic Examination: Perform forensic examination, collect evidence when necessary, and work in collaboration with legal teams and law enforcement in GBV cases.
    • Comprehensive Patient Care: Ensure that patients receive holistic care, including appropriate referrals to psychosocial and legal services as part of the treatment plan.
    • Compile GBV data into the relevant information system
    • Patient Advocacy and Confidentiality: Advocate for survivors of GBV, ensuring that their rights, dignity, and confidentiality are maintained throughout the treatment process.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, mental health professionals, and legal experts to ensure seamless and coordinated care.
    • Training and Education: Educate and mentor clinical and non-clinical staff on best practices in trauma and GBV care. Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma, higher diploma or degree in Clinical Medicine
    • Registration with the Clinical Officers’ Council in Kenya with valid licensure
    • Valid BLS Certificate
    • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with forensic examinations and legal procedures related to sexual assault and domestic violence cases.
    • Training in providing psychological first aid or LIVES to trauma survivors.
    • Has undertaken training in any of the national training curricula on GBV prevention and/or response.
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially vulnerable or marginalized populations.
    • Thorough understanding of the guiding principles and compassionate care
    • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team leader and player
