    Communications Assistant

    As the Communications Officer with the Action for Paid Childcare Sector Transformation (ACT) project(WUSC) in Nairobi, Kenya, you will help elevate community voices, document transformative initiatives, and create dynamic content that drives awareness and action. From producing engaging social media content and capturing impactful moments through photography, to supporting the development of reports and promotional materials, you’ll play a vital role in telling the story of change and advancing equitable childcare solutions.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Support in development of reports, promotional materials, including written materials, videos and photo documentation and design using tools like Canva and Adobe. 
    • Support in reviewing the social media posts from our implementing partners of the ACT project
    • Support communication and outreach efforts by engaging stakeholders, sharing impact stories, and strengthening visibility in local and digital spaces
    • Document project activities and outcomes through photography, interviews, and field reporting
    • Ensure that an intersectional and culturally sensitive lens is applied in the execution of all activities
    • Participate in pre-assignment training
    • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives with Canadian audiences before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, funds, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have to report on each of their public engagement activities through our Volunteer Information Portal. Virtual chats and individual check-ins can be booked with the Senior Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment and up to 2 years after to seek guidance and support with their public engagement activities
    • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, or a related field
    • Demonstrated  experience in report writing, article drafting, and storytelling for development initiatives
    • Proficiency in visual content creation, including photography and basic design using Canva, Adobe, or similar tools
    • Experience in social media management and engagement across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
    • Demonstrated experience engaging with local communities and stakeholders
    • Fluency in English and Swahili required
    • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion
    • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
    • Written and oral fluency in English.
