Consultancy - 3D Animation Production at FilmAid

• FilmAid will ensure that the most vulnerable communities have better access to reliable, accurate, and timely information on their rights to work and rights at work and how to access Employment, Business and Entrepreneurship Opportunities. The Consultant will engage FilmAid and the community in a participatory approach in the production and dissemination of two animated films (covering Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camp contexts), and these will be disseminated through the use of dialogue in film-based workshops and during the FilmAid Kenya Film Festival (FAFF) and international commemoration events.

The animation will portray, among other things:

• Seek to empower and support refugees to tell their own authentic stories in their voices.
• Provide clear information about the labor rights and legal situation of refugees in Kenya.
• Raise awareness about Employment, Business and Entrepreneurship opportunities for refugees and the host community in Dadaab, and Kakuma.
• Document the process of how refugees can access business permits, Class M work permits, and other required documents.

The animation will be translated in 7 local languages (English, Kiswahili, Somali, Amharic, Turkana, Arabic and Nuer) and disseminated through a range of information channels, such as social media, film-based workshops, as well as through our community structures and implementing partners to ensure the widest reach.

Specific tasks of the consultancy:

• FilmAid seeks to engage the consultant in creating an interactive 2D or 3D animation translated in 7 local languages (English, Kiswahili, Somali, Amharic, Turkana, Arabic and Nuer) that aims at providing information that will support in ensuring the most vulnerable communities have better access to reliable, accurate, and timely information on their rights to work and rights at work and how to access Employment, Business and Entrepreneurship opportunities. The consultant is expected to develop the script for this film and to animate it.

Expected outputs:

• Develop a script and adopt it into an animated film. The consultant will decide which type of animation best fits the need of the project, whether 2D or 3D. FilmAid encourages the consultant to pitch unique animated storytelling techniques such as Whiteboard Animation.
• Create a storyboard that captures how the animation will look.
• Create an animation.
• Produce the animation in English, Kiswahili, Somali, Amharic, Turkana, Arabic, and Nuer.
