    Dean of Studies/ Internal Examination Officer

    Job Summary

    • The overall purpose of the job is to oversee all academic and examination processes in line with the school’s curriculum and supervise all Academic Heads of Departments.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plan, monitor the teaching and learning process in order to achieve the set learning and teaching objectives;
    • Supervision and allocation of duties amongst the teaching staff ensuring there is balance and alignment to the role mandate;
    • Preparation of timetables – exams, lessons and remedial classes/sessions to ensure that all the subjects are covered and there is even distribution of subjects and avoid clashing of classes;
    • Coordination of the examination process, by ensuring the exams are set, reproduced and implementation of the same and ensure that the marks have been uploaded in the system within the set timelines ;
    • Ensure that the uploaded grades have gone through the verification process to ensure all the marks are captured accurately before releasing to the learners;
    • Monitor lessons delivery and collect attendance data for the teachers doing remedial classes for overtime analysis;
    • Target setting for the teaching staff and reward system as a way of motivation for both the faculty staff and the learners to maintain high performance;
    • Organize benchmarking trips to other schools to pick lessons, trends and compare with KISC for improvement;
    • Student management to ensure their welfare both academics, emotional and physical wellbeing is adhered;
    • Responsible for knowledge transfer (teaching) to the learners by using the prescribed teaching methods and in accordance with the set syllabus;
    • Create assessment timelines and scheduling CAT’s and examinations; ensuring formal assessments and marking schemes are of high quality;
    • Monitor general student enrolment to help determine if certain subjects should be eliminated or new ones introduced to tap full student potentials;
    • Evaluate effectiveness of the school programs in preparing students for exams and transition to higher learning;
    • Where necessary, communicate with parents any relevant information on academic needs, challenges and progress of the students;
    • Track and monitor class attendance registers every week and alert the Head of School on anomalies in student records and/or teacher absenteeism;
    • Guide students on making selections for courses of study – college/university, advise on the evolving job market that influence career choices;
    • Coordinate the requisition of teaching and learning materials in good time; and
    • Any other responsibilities assigned to the jobholder by the supervisor from time to time.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized institution.
    • Must be registered with Teacher Service Commission (TSC)
    • Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience in British Curriculum.

    • Ability to counsel students
