Deputy Director Agriculture at Turkana County Government

REF: TUR/CPSB/037/2022/2023; DEPUTY DIRECTOR AGRICULTURE, JOB GROUP “Q”, POSITION: ONE (1)

• Deputy Director Agriculture will be responsible to County Director Agriculture in matters related to Irrigation in the County.

Duties and responsibilities

• Initiating formulation of policies and programmes for agricultural development;
• Coordinating training of graduate engineers and technicians;
• Supervising preparation of irrigation tender documents;
• Validating reports and socio-economic and environmental impact of agricultural development;
• Promoting research and innovation in agricultural sector;
• Carrying out monitoring and evaluation of programmmes and projects;
• Coordinating the planning, designing and construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirement for appointment
For appointment in this grade, a candidate must have: -

• Served in the grade of Assistant Director of Agriculture for a minimum period of three (3) years or in any comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Public Sector;
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following discipline: Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering, Soil Water and Environment Environmental Engineering, Environmental and Bio-System Engineering, Biomechanical and Processing Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in any of the following discipline: Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering, Soil Water and Environment Environmental Engineering, Environmental and Bio-System Engineering, Biomechanical and Processing Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution will be added advantage;
• Registered as engineer with Engineers Registration Board (ERB);
• Membership with the institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
• Attended Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution in Kenya;
• Certificate in Computer Application from a recognized institution; and
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding for national goals, policies, objectives and the ability to relate them to the irrigation function
• Terms of Service: Local Contract (3 Years)
