    Deputy Director Corporate Communications

    Job specifications

    Duties and responsibilities at this level will include but not limited to:

    1. Developing and implementing communication strategies that will broaden reach and deepen impact of the Authority’s work;
    2. Advising the Authority on appropriate communication policies, Strategies and Programmes;
    3. Providing interface between the Authority and other stakeholders;
    4. Monitoring public perception about NEMA and advising Management accordingly;
    5. Overseeing branding and corporate promotional activities including content management;
    6. Managing media relations and maximizing media opportunities for positive, exposure of NEMA;
    7. Researching, creating and distributing press releases to targeted media;
    8. Managing the public relations aspect of a potential crisis situation;
    9. Spear heading web administration and social media communication and management;
    10. Overseeing organizational response to inquiries about NEMA and maintaining internal and external feedback systems;
    11. Overseeing general protocol at the Authority;
    12. Lobbying organizations to integrate environmental conservation in their corporate social responsibility activities;
    13. Supervising, guiding, appraising and developing staff in the department.
    14. Coordinating implementation of the department strategic plan and realization of its objectives;
    15. Overseeing the implementation of performance appraisal systems and contracts of the department;
    16. Ensuring accountability and prudent management of resources and assets and ensuring compliance with principles and values of good governance, transparency, accountability, ethics and integrity.

    Requirements for appointment

    For appointment to this grade a candidate must have: -

    1. Master’s degree in any of the following fields Public Relations, Corporate Communication; Mass Communication and journalism or a related field from a recognized institution;
    2. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Mass Communication or a related field from a recognized institution;
    3. Member of Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) or any other relevant professional body in good standing;
    4. Experience in handling social media, including blogs, face book, twitter andOthers;
    5. A minimum period of twelve (12) years relevant work experience and at least four (4) years in a management role in the Public Service or Private Sector;
    6. Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
    7. Proficiency in computer applications;
    8. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
    9. Fulfilled the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
