    Deputy Director Mining, Mineral Audit, Mines Health Safety and Environment

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Duties and responsibilities will include:-

    • Implementing and reviewing of policies, guidelines, procedures and strategies related to Mineral Revenue Audit, Mines Health, Safety and Environment;
    • Monitoring and auditing of mineral production data to facilitate collection of payable royalty;
    • Monitoring and compliance enforcement of Mine Health, Safety and Environment in the Mining Sector;
    • Coordination of inspection and examination of mines safety, health and environment in all the prospecting, mining or mineral processing operations;
    • Evaluation of mine technical design proposals and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports related mining and exploration programs; 
    • Enforcement and monitoring the implementation of rehabilitation plans in operational, abandoned and decommissioned mines;
    • Coordination investigation on mines incidents and accidents;
    • Determination of capital investment and operating expenditure of mines for the purpose of gathering taxable information and providing the same to other relevant authorities;
    • Reviewing of policies and the prevailing fiscal regime with regards to the competitiveness of Kenya’s mining environment on fiscal regimes; 
    • Supervision of collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of information on minerals production and exports data for Government revenue projections;
    • Preparation and provision of royalty sharing information with the National Treasury, relevant county governments and communities;
    • Enforcing compliance and preventing minerals smuggling and mineral royalty evasion in collaboration with relevant Government authorities; and
    • Establishing and maintaining an up-to-date register of mineral production database, and up-to-date records of mines safety, health and environment

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Served for a minimum period of ten (10) years, three (3) years of which should have been in the grade of Senior Superintending Inspector of Mines, CSG 8 and above, or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider Public Service; 
    • A Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: - Mining Engineering, Minerals Processing Engineering, or Civil Engineering from a recognized University or any other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; and
    • Demonstrated technical and professional competence as reflected in work performance and results
