    Director, Mineral Exploration and Evaluation

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Duties and responsibilities will include:-

    • Developing, implementing and reviewing policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on mineral
    • Exploration and evaluation;
    • Ensuring quality assurance on Mineral Exploration and Evaluation;
    • Undertaking feasibility study in targeted high mineral potential areas;
    • Conducting detailed geological, geophysical and geochemical surveys;
    • Assessing and analysing rocks, soils, sediments, minerals, and drill-core samples and determination of grade;
    • Delineating and evaluating mineral resources;
    • Undertaking exploration risk evaluation;
    • Conducting regional tectonic and metallurgic studies to provide context for province
    • Selection, property acquisition and project generation;
    • Conducting deposit-scale structural evaluation to define geotechnical domains and hydrogeological controls;
    • Conducting geophysical modelling, enhancement and data visualization;
    • Preparing drilling plans, drilling spacing studies and sampling protocol definition;
    • Identifying geological materials for construction industry;
    • Undertaking mineral exploratory drilling; and
    • Liaising with stakeholders on geophysical and other cross-cutting issues

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Served for a minimum period of ten years (10), three (3) of which should  have been in the grade of Assistant  Director/ Chief Superintending Geologist (Geological Survey), CSG ‘7’ and above or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service or private sector;
    • A Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in any of the following disciplines: Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology or any other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; 
    • A Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Environmental Science, Geo-information Management, Nuclear Science, Petroleum Geochemistry, Hydrogeology or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; 
    • A Registration by the Geological Registration Board of Kenya; 
    • Demonstrated managerial and high degree of professional competence in work performance; and
    • Exhibited a thorough understanding of the national goals, policies objectives and programmes and ability to relate them to the provision of reliable geological data and information
