    General Operations Manager for an International Safari company to be based in Kenya

    Our client, an East African Safari company is looking for an experienced General Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of operations in Kenya. Africa experience and knowledge of the Tourism sector is a MUST!

    Duties

    1. Line management of all employees in Kenya; their performance and development
    2. Ensuring that the various Kenya guest-facing units deliver guest services / experiences in line with the agreed standards & definitions; idem for agent services
    3. End-responsible for the consistently strong and cost-efficient performance of support functions including resupplies, workshop / fleet management and asset management / maintenance.
    4. Ensuring that the Kenya operations meet the Group policies, procedures and standards at all times, including a/o health & safety and admin controls
    5. Ensuring that all assets and equipment are kept in excellent condition
    6. Strong general performance of the Kenya operations against set management objectives
    7. Strong financial performance of the Kenya operations against its Operating Budget as well as good mgt of CAPEX against CAPEX budgets/plans

    Requirements

    1. Minimum 10 years of experience in various operational management roles
    2. Strong organizational and logistic skills in leadership positions in organisations with >200 staff
    3. Effective at managing and training/coaching middle managers and staff
    4. Effective at crisis management and good at making instant decisions; ability to multitask and prioritize in a challenging environment
    5. Strong Logistics/resupply and Cost management experience
    6. Strong HR Management experience
    7. Strong in Menus, food quality and food presentation
    8. Some bush/guide knowledge
    9. Asset & fleet maintenance management experience
    10. Ability to build good working relationships with people at all levels from camp staff to the board of directors
    11. Proven ability to handle complex intercultural people matters, with cultural sensitivity and awareness
    12. Passion for positive impact and wildlife tourism as well as community development
    13. Minimum degree or diploma
    14. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to structure and present work plans and ideas
    15. Independent ‘getting things done’ mentality; willing to work hard
    16. Local African languages a preference
