Legal Assistant- 3 positions at Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC)

Job purpose

• This is the entry level for degree holders without postgraduate diploma in law or diploma holders into this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of the Legal Officer/Senior. This officer may be deployed to the following functional unit, Litigation, Conveyancing and security documentation, Contract and Lease Management.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintaining physical and electronic filing systems for legal documents, including court files, contracts, correspondence, and other legal records to ensure proper storage and easy retrieval.
• Assisting in preparation, compiling, and filing court documents, including pleadings, notices, affidavits, and other legal documents under the guidance of senior legal officers.
• Filing court documents and following up on service of process to ensure timely completion of legal procedures and compliance with court requirements.
• Accompanying senior legal officers to court proceedings and providing support during mentions, hearings, and other court-related activities.
• Monitoring deadlines for legal processes, court dates, and other legal obligations and maintain updated schedules and reminders for timely action.
• Receiving and processing requests for legal services from departments and branches and coordinate their referral or follow-up with the appropriate legal officers.
• Assisting in conducting legal research and preparing basic legal research memoranda, summaries, and reports on assigned legal matters.
• Assisting in maintaining legal databases and tracking systems by capturing, updating, and retrieving information relating to legal matters, court cases, and legal assignments.
• Assisting in preparation of training materials and legal compliance awareness sessions for staff on relevant legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
• Assisting in preparation of routine legal correspondence and follow up on pending legal matters with internal departments, courts, and external service providers.
• Performing any other relevant duties assigned from time to time to support effective legal operations of the Corporation.

Person specifications.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law; or Diploma in Law, Advanced Diploma in Law, qualification from a recognized institution and Valid Certificate in Process Service
• At least 2-3 years working experience in providing legal support
• Possess high levels of integrity, ethical standards   and professionalism;
• Proficiency in computer applications;
• Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the constitution
