    Manager, Climate Change Programme

    Manager, Climate Change Programme, BRAC International

    • This position is part of BRAC International’s (BI’s) core programme team and reports to the Head of Climate Change Programme. The major role of this position is to contribute to the development and implementation of the climate change strategy for BI across different countries in Asia and Africa. This will include supporting integration of climate response actions in planned and on-going programmes/projects and developing new activities, standards and processes. This position will also provide hands-on technical support and supervision and build the capacity of the country teams to implement climate change projects and interventions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Contribute in designing context specific climate change adaptation initiatives in climate vulnerable BI countries for bringing in new resources for implementation.
    • Work jointly with country offices/programe team to integrate/mainstream climate change in on going BI projects/programmes including in integrated programming.
    • Provide hands-on technical support to BI programmes and country teams to ensure quality and timely delivery of climate change response actions. This may include contributing to concept note and proposal development; development and review of Standard operating procedures (SOP) for projects, manuals and training modules, IEC materials, vulnerability and climate risk assessment tools, technical checklists, and other necessary contents.
    • Support capacity development initiatives for country and project teams for quality implementation of programme and project activities in support of climate change adaptation.
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of climate adaptation monitoring, evaluation, research and learning within the programme and across BI. This will include:
      • Conducting periodic field visits and meetings with country teams to check the progress of climate adaptation projects, quality of programme/project implementation and recommend measures for improvement.
      • Support country teams to capture project-specific learnings for scale up and establish a cross-country learning-sharing mechanism.
    • Support in the development of various communication and knowledge products around climate change initiatives, opportunities and challenges.
    • Support strengthening of partnerships and resource mobilization for effective implementation of the programme strategy.
    • Represent BI in relevant forums to cultivate partnerships and provide support to country teams for active participation in national and international advocacy efforts.

    Safeguarding responsibilities

    • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
    • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
    • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

    Educational Requirements:

    • Masters in relevant discipline preferably in Climate Change, Meteorology, environmental science, geography, agriculture etc. from a reputable university.

    Required Competencies:

    • Extensive experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of climate adaptation and resilience building programmes in disadvantaged communities.
    • Proven ability to effectively guide multi-cultural teams with a strategic vision and strong operational focus.
    • Openness to learn and explore new ideas with a deep commitment to quality.
    • Ability to think strategically and drive innovation in program design and implementation.
    • Ability to thrive in dynamic and fast-paced environments, demonstrating a high level of adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities.
    • Ability to grasp the nuances and complexities of local contexts, and lead with a high degree of cultural sensitivity.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team.
    • Experience in capacity building and mentoring young professionals.
    • Excellent facilitation and communication skills with fluency in English speaking and writing.
    • Proficient in using Microsoft and google online tools including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, for seamless productivity and collaboration.
    • Possesses strong critical and strategic thinking, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a client-oriented service mentality.

    Experience Requirements:

    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in managing /implementing climate change programmes/projects preferably in the areas of climate adaptation and resilience building across multiple poor and climate-vulnerable countries in Asia or Africa. Experience in developing projects/ programmes is desirable.
