    Nurse Counsellor

    MSF France Mathare project is looking to fill the position of a Nurse Counsellor. The successful candidate reports to the Youth Clinic Activity Manager.

    Objective of the Position:

    Provide counselling and nursing care during community health promotion and awareness forums to populations according to protocols applied in service in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Provision of counselling activities to SGBV survivors during community awareness forums and further referral to the clinic.
      • To provide counselling support to the clients according to the protocol
      • To provide information to the general public including children, youth and adolescents during health promotion regarding sexual violence, prevention and management
    • To provide psychological first aid to survivors in distress and schedule follow up appointments and referral.
      • Facilitate individual and group counselling sessions on site before referral to the clinic
      • Together with the Health Promotion team identify the medical, psychological and social challenges of clients and advise the medical team accordingly.
      • To provide online psychological support through phone calls, WhatsApp media
    • To provide continuous medical education to facilities on SGBV management
      • In collaboration with the health promotion team identify facilities that require /request support in SGBV management
      • Capacity build health workers to identify and detect cases of sexual violence in their clinics
      • Provide routinely continuous medical education to nurses in the county in SGBV management
      • Provide education to schools, colleges and tertiary institutions on issues regarding SRH and sexual violence
    •  To provide HTS (HIV testing services); carry out pre and post-test counselling and testing for clients during outreach programs and refer clients appropriately after testing
    • For specific follows-up
      • To provide vaccines injections in schools or where group therapies have been carried
      • To do a basic medical follow-up if required, to document it in the patient file and in the data collection tool
    • Responsible for documentation and communication
      • To document all consultations in the patient file and communicate as needed with the clinical psychologist, SGBV supervisor, and HP Supervisor
    • To participate in any other program activities as will be required and provide input to the department: i.e. departmental and team meetings, ongoing education sessions
    • To provide feedback from community on MSF services and activities to the trauma team and SGBV in regard to feedback received while on health promotion

    Requirements

    Education

    • Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma; training in counselling

    Experience

    • Desirable 2 years of previous experience as a Nurse and previous experience in other NGO’s.

    Languages

    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili

    Knowledge

    • Required computer skills (e.g. excel, word)
