    Officer – Port Operations

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    •  Ensuring efficient traffic flow within the port by preparing port activity plans & schedules,
    •  Preparing documentation at the Port for smooth transfer of cargo to CLC,
    •  Collecting KPA invoices for settlement and organizing for KPA gate pass through kwatos and ICMS,
    •  Coordinating movement of cargo in liaison with transporters,
    •  Attending to port related queries and providing up to date information in regards to cargo movement from port to yard,
    •  Assisting port assistants in following up cargo movement from port to yard,
    •  Reconciliation of cargo transfers and ensuring safety and security of cargo,
    •  Taking charge of staff administration in the section including shifts, leave scheduling and performance matters,
    •  Updating clients on real time basis on their cargo status,
    •  Controlling and approving fuel, flexi and overtime,
    •  Adhering to all relevant documentation for transfer of containers/cargo as required by KPA, KRA and other government agencies,
    •  Overseeing billings from ICD and liaising with Accounts Payable Officers at CLC for payment, reconciliations, and claims and follow up,
    •  Preparing daily port activity reports and circulate to management,
    •  Ensuring adherence to statutory requirements for cargo release at the port,
    •  Ensuring compliance with OHSE requirements by all staff working in the department,
    •  Providing prompt and accurate documentation of cargo movement as per approved procedures and policies,
    •  Liaise with shipping companies, customs authorities, port workers, and other stakeholders
    •  Assist in the development of the port’s annual budget,
    •  Monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective operations
    •  Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    Knowledge and Skills Required:
    The job holder must possess;

    •  Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field in Freight Management / Logistics) or equivalent,
    •  Diploma in Clearing and Forwarding,
    •  Minimum of 5 years of experience in port operations,
    •  Knowledge in Kwatos and ICMS is an added advantage,
    •  Should have thorough knowledge of the relevant industry/sector as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting the relevant sector,
    •  Should have strong analytical and be result oriented,
    •  Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice,
    •  Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader,
    •  Should have problem solving and decision-making abilities,
    •  Should demonstrate ability to identify and respond to risk areas within the department,
    •  Should have effective people management and conflict resolution skills
