    Project Support Officer

    Task description

    Under the supervision of the GMCP Programme Coordinator, the UN Volunteer will Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the programme activities under the Global Maritime Crime Programme; Deliver four regional Visit, Board, Search, Seizure (VBSS) courses for regional maritime law enforcement actors from Tanzania, Seychelles, Kenya, Mozambique, Comoros, Mauritius and Madagascar; - Deliver three VBSS Instructor Courses for senior and qualified Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) officers from three regional countries; - Support the skills development and mentorship of two regional guest instructors as part of the in-country mentor programme within the region; - Contribute to identifying technical assistance needs for capacity building of MLE and developing sustainable strategies to reform and strengthen the capacity of maritime law enforcement authorities and other criminal justice authorities in the country; - Contribute with substantive support for VBSS course development and catalogue including the review and analysis of emerging maritime issues and respective courses for MLE; - Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, including monthly reports, mission reports, VBSS course reports and VBSS publications; - Provide substantive support to the GMCP Programme Coordinator in view of consultative and other meetings with Maritime Law Enforcement Authorities; - Provide substantial support to GMCP Programme Coordinator with the procurement of VBSS equipment and services and monitoring and follow-up on such requests in line with UN financial rules and regulations; - Carry out field missions to locations in the region where GMCP carries out programme activities for engagement with key stakeholders; - Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking an active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country - Provide annual and end-of-assignment reports on Volunteer actions, results and opportunities using UNV’s Volunteer Reporting Application; - Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers; Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

    Requirements

    Required experience

    • 5 years of experience in organizing VBSS training, coordinating with maritime law enforcement counterparts and previous experience working in an international environment.
